Island West Golf Club
Played On 11/10/2017Downhill??
We played this course in March 2017 and since then, it seems that the course maintenance has deteriorated, perhaps due to financial troubles(?). The Greens were infested with what looked like miniature bunchgrass weeds that were pressed into the soil together with the odd colored grass which ruined the greens aesthetics . I felt as though I was putting on something “artificial” and not on a regular green. Fairways were acceptable but the rough immediately adjacent to the fairway sometimes “hid” the ball and unless you were directly on top of the ball, you would not see it. Cart attendant seemed “selective” in his choice of who to help or not help. He never greeted us nor assisted with course information and from the first tee to the parking lot at the end was nowhere to be found. We have played just about all the surrounding courses on 278 and sadly I have to say Island West’s condition is at or near the bottom of the list for recommendations for places to play.
Northfield Country Club
Played On 05/11/2017Countryside surprise
A surprisingly well maintained scenic course in the countryside /mountains with medium/fast greens ......" with no ball marks!!!" Although somewhat isolated, the drive of 30 miles one way was worth it as was the cost of green fees. There are mild elevation changes and the woodlands along the fairways(with almost no houses in sight) together with the mountainl scenery gives a very serene and peaceful ambience to enhance relaxation for you and your game. If you expect a big fancy oversized clubhouse, don't go here. As for me, I don't care one way or the other since I don't play golf in a clubhouse!
Championship Course at Crosswinds Golf Club
Played On 03/20/2017Don't look for a Sign
We arrived looking for a sign that said Crosswinds but didn't see any and was wondering if maybe we had too much to drink last night!! Once in the pro shop, staff was very pleasant and informative. The course layout is very nice with no surprises or questions as to where TO hit the ball....vs where YOU hit the ball!! Greens were medium fast and putts rolled smooth and true.....vs courses where your putts bounced like a jack rabbit being chased for dinner!! The atmosphere was very relaxing and pace of play was acceptable to us - 4 hr 20 min - with little or no waiting from Hole to hole. If you want to go faster, Interstate 95 is conveniently less than 5 minutes from the course . Yes, I would recommend this course and consider the price paid as fair , for the product received. My name is not McArthur but " I shall return!"
