Thistle Golf Club - Cameron Course
Played On 11/15/2020Definitely worth playing.
This was our last of 3 on a trip to Myrtle. We had a 1.5, 4.2, 20 and 24 in our group. This was the course that we all enjoyed the most.
It was playable off the tee for everyone and water carries were manageable for the higher handicap players. For lower handicap players it still required a good shot to the proper section of the green to get a good look at birdie. Slopes that ran near holes could leave you some slick down hill putts.
Also, the club sandwich is a triple bread sandwich!! That was a nice touch to the traditional club.

The 2 members of our group that were high handicappers hated this course because of the difficulty of the shots required. I think some of it had to do with the fact there were 6 inches of rain 2 nights before and there was little to no roll. Made the course long!
The low handicappers were impressed with the course. As expected from an Arnold Palmer Design, there were holes that required some shot making. 8,9,11, 15-18 offered incredible views.
Greens were a little slower than the 2 other courses we played in the area, but still were in great condition.
Foxfire Resort & Golf Club - Red Fox Course
Played On 11/09/2019Good Course if in area
The conditions on this course have greatly improved over last few months (reseeded greens). The greens are now rolling great and they’ve increased the speed significantly after the greens grew in. The course has a fun lay out with Par 4 doglegs left and right, short 4’s, lengthy 4’s with tough second shots, and has well guarded greens. The course also offers short, mid, and long par 3’s. Those play from 145 to 215 from the tips. The par 5’s on the course can be reachable with well placed tee shots on 3 (on 9 you can go over the trees with a 250 carry which will leave you 200 in), but No. 12 is a definite 3 shot par 5 (lay up to 100 yards is tightest spot on hole). Course is very enjoyable and we love having it in our rotation.

Was not sure what to expect when everyone in the pro shop called it the easier of the 2 courses and the International Course was called “The Evil Twin.” This one certainly had some teeth with the first 8 holes playing into a club or 2 club wind. But course is definitely gettable if you place your ball in the fairway or reach the 2 driveable Par 4’s (14 and 17).
Conditions were great. Greens rolled true and were receptive (rain last night might’ve helped that).
Once you get on the third hole, you really feel like you’re out on a nature preserve or some other nature adventure. Surrounded by trees, bushes, honeysuckles, etc.
Azalea City Golf Course
Played On 12/23/2018Nice Muni
Last time we did Springhill when I was in town, but decide to try the City Course. Greens were rolling nice and the course was in decent shape for December. Lots of recent rain cause mud, but that’s out of anyone’s control. All bunkers were ranked and had soft sand. Would definitely be back to play again.
Longleaf Golf & Family Club
Played On 09/04/2017Enjoyable round. Worth the play.
I have always stayed away from Longleaf based on word of mouth around town about conditions. Went and tried it out today, and the new greens and the fairways didn't disappoint. If you go out there expecting to be able to stick and spin, wait a few months as they are newly laid Bermuda. We were expecting this when we went out there so I'm not mad. The layout was fun. The 208 yard uphill par 3 was no fun not being able to hold a green. The Par 5, 5th is probably my only layout dislike. Rough is silly in some places. Like US Open silly.

This course was amazing from start to end. Greens rolled incredible, fast and true. Never saw the course before today, but the "new course" is a favorite of mine in the area. you start with a 600 yard uphill beast and end with a beautiful dog leg left with a forced 245 yard carry over water(if you take the direct route). Theyre still in the process of finishing up their renovations. I'm sure once they get all they did bunkers finished and all the new sod grows in, it will be ahstetically pleasing throughout. Even with the work going on, it was still a fantastic course.
Wonderful! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our course and the challenge it presented. We can't wait to have you back again soon for your next round at ChampionsGate!
