Terrific Layout, Better Restaurant

Having recently relocated to Pittsburgh, several acquaitances suggested playing this club.
Well worth the visit.
The staff was very pleasant, welcoming and genuinely interested in starting our day off well.
The course overall holds ones attention as the design includes expansive fairways and greens, well placed bunkering and natural hazards that require controling ones ball at all times. Several stout holes were balanced with “shorter” reward holes.
Green surfaces are large, multi-tiered and noting pin placements are a must. GPS on the carts really helps with yardages as well as pin locations.
Pay attention to the putting green as the speed and slope are exactly what you will find on the course.
First timers, regardless of skill, might play it one tee forward and use the initial visit as a learning experience. There are a few forced carries and blind landing zones.
Post round, a “must” is the restaurant that serves very tasty sandwiches, apps and full meals with a great variety of craft beer on tap.
Enjoy this course and will be back as often as I can.

Golf Course is a Thumbs Up

Having played this course since its inception, this club has been through good times, on the brink of closure only to be saved and for the most part returned to its heralded beginning.

This course is well designed; with large greens, wide fairways, and multiple tee boxes that provide a fair challenge for all skill levels. The addition of a too small short game area is welcome although I never could understand “no chipping” signs on the putting green (five times the size of the short game green) that mirrors what players find on the golf course. Despite the rain over the last few weeks, greens and fairways were quite good! Unfortunately that same rain has played havoc with tees and bunkers.

My middle rating and the head-scratcher is the lack of customer service. In fairness, the gentleman at the bag drop was really in good spirits and very personable. The Pro Shop, restaurant and rangers all seemed to be collectively having a poor day. BTW- the new restaurant is appealing, only had adult beverages post round.

Not sure this course deserves the the premium GF’s it charges. However, I recommend the golf course.

Worth a Vist

Pheasant Ridge is nice little layout. Club personnel are pleasant and efficient. The course layout is fun, fair and affords multiple scoring opportunities. Built into and surrounded by woodlands, fairways are wide, greens are sizable, average in speed in very good condition. Some complain the mix of old and new holes is evident and inconsistent however I find no merit or shortfall in the design. Only note of pause- first four holes are short and tee shots are blind, causing slow pace and the clubhouse permits nine-holers to jump in front of players making the turn. Nonetheless, good track for new, old and juniors.

Continues to Improve

Kudos to ownership and the greens superintendent … this club and restaurant has nicely evolved from a few short years back. Staff professionalism and demeanor are welcoming and appreciated. The course is fun, a few stout holes however course is attractively designed, fair in length and difficulty. From the back tees, the course is not demanding in length, but all clubs in the bag are used and scoring possibilities abound. Greens surfaces are good - moderate in speed, receptive, medium sized with plenty of undulations that require a measure of feel. New practice area that looked good however was not open this morning (why no chipping around the putting green?!?)
Two things that give pause - pace of play tends to be slow and no walking on weekend mornings. Glad to see it return to its early years.

Well Worth a Visit!

Set in the midst of a park system, this mature traditional design is home to young and old, high and low handicappers. Club feels original, players are genuine and fun to partner with. Clubhouse staff is always pleasant and accommodating. No tee times taken - show up, sign-in, and await for your name(s) to be called. Walking offers good cardio workout. Course layout is relatively open however features a few significant elevation changes, fair number of uneven lies, off-line shots can find the long “happy grass” and the many old trees that border holes. Good mix of holes, each side boasting two or three stout holes, others fair and manageable. Greens are built elevated, smallish, run back to front, with a fair number of knobs and mini-slopes. Three sets of tees, tips at 6800. Front tee is appropriate for women, seniors and juniors. Only negative or pause- Monday through Thursday between 7A- 11A, tee sheet dominated by seniors and pace of play can be poor. If an Allegheny resident, cost of play below $20 to walk eighteen. Excellent value!

Must See and Play

As part of a visit/ play trip to Pinehurst, we added this club into an additional play date. Tobacco Road was truly enjoyable. First, the club personnel were gracious, genuinely friendly and very helpful with their recommendations. The whole golf experience required attention to recommended sight/ target lines with yardages attached. If you can overcome the sheer beauty and, yes, a few blind shots, the course is stout however rewards smart shot making. The penal part of the course is well known however the scorecard clearly indicates the preferred approach based on your skill level. Fairways were generous based on carry. Greens were of fairly large, average pace, and depending on pin placement, few had undulations that required skill and feel to appropriately navigate. We enjoyed the layout so much, played 36 today.
