The course itself is average but the greens are very nice. Whoever placed the pins on a couple holes should have a bit of accountability though.

I’ve played 2X in the past year, both at Applewood. Both times I’ve had my truck scratched. I didn’t catch the first time until I was leaving the state for a while but even though I had backed into a space where no other cars were on either side (mine was the only auto on the row and the row was the farthest from the pro shop). When I returned from the course after playing, someone had parked next to me in spite of all the other spaces being empty. I thought it strange, but, whatever. Then when I stopped to get gas on my way to Tampa, I couldn’t help but notice a long, white scratch down almost the entire side of my truck. White…same as the van that parked next to me. Then yesterday, when I returned to my truck after the round, it was apparent that whoever had parked next to me had both opened their door into my driver’s side door but there were also a couple “swirly” marks too. I don’t know why people do these things but i do think it speaks to the typical clientelle of Applewood.

My only other problem was the 4some I ran into on the 11th tee. They were probably in their early-mid 20s. I was playing alone and although no one was in front of them (I never saw anyone, ever), they wouldn’t allow me to play through, so it was a long back 9. Multiple tee shots and putts, although they did seem to stop those, for a little while. Oh, and the pat 5 11th? The HUGE chunk of sod and black dirt all over one side of the green? Thank that group for that too!

I enjoy this course for the layout. I always seem to meet great and enjoyable people when I get paired at Black Bear. My only negatives concerning this course is that the greens are very slow. There’s grass almost everywhere, but if I had to guess a stimp meter, it would be a 6 or 7. It was still enjoyable to play tee to green though. Oh, would SOMEONE please take the bunkers? Ugh!

Black Bear Golf Course is about a 30-40 minute drive for me and it was a nice day for the drive today. I my have considered rating 5 stars for the golf course, if not for the pace of the greens. The greens are full of grass but very slow. Aside from that, it was a nice round of golf.

This Pete Dye course was very evident of its designer. The layout was very typical Dye and that’s why I chose it to play today. The fairways were blanketed in grass and the rough was contemporarily very playable. The par 5s, again, true to Dye design, discouraged long approaches in 2 shots. They are gettable though. The only down side today were the greens. They weren’t great. The greens were also very slow. I wasn’t expecting that. The tees were level for the most part (not all) but there were a lot of bare spaces on them. I’d recommend playing here, still.

The weather was perfect today and there was a deal on golfnow to play here, and it's pretty close to my house so I took the deal. I wasn't paired with anyone and there was a single ahead of me. I thought of joining him but he was a pretty back player and I was playing the back tees. I waited on every shot for 6 holes. The par 5s were especially painful as the group that was 2 tee times ahead of me (a really, really bad female and a male who wasn't much better) wouldn't let the single in front of me through, but why would they? He hit multiple balls every shot and even though his tee shots barely went 200 yards, on the par 5s, he (very serious) waited for the group to clear the green before he hit his second shot, usually to around the 150-ish mark. After 6 holes I just drove in. I noticed that there was a 4some in front of the male/female group (a full hole clear) and they were all in the trees on both sides of the fairway. There was another 3some in front of them, but they were over 1 1/2 holes clear of them. My tee time was at 2:30 and the single asked to go ahead of me (said the pro shop told him he could). There is no way I would've finished 18 holes before dark at the rate everyone was playing.

I enjoy playing golf Sunday afternoons and evenings. I’ve played Mayfair 4 previous times and the staff, especially the cart guy have been very, very nice. Unfortunately, the tee boxes are in really bad condition. Pace of play has always been very difficult to deal with and the extremely loud rap/hip hop 15 yards from the 1st tee?? Seriously? Wouldn’t allow video upload.

As the title says, it was a horrible pace. I was on the tee at my tee time but a single stepped up with the tee time after me and said the pro told him to go off whenever he wanted to. He was a beater too, never really trying to play through the VERY deliberate 2some (horrible man-woman duo). I gave up after 6 holes and just drove in. No way I would’ve finished 18 holes before dark, even with my 2:30 tee time.

We played a tournament which included regional vendors and firms within the association, with approximately 70 players. The organization of carts and overall pre-tournament setup was slightly congested, but altogether very well. Free range balls were part of the package and that was greatly appreciated. The course was in very good shape with a lot of grass in the fairways. The greens rolled well too, with very few problem areas (if any). The tee boxes could use a little attention as some are beaten up and it difficult to find a level area to tee from sometimes, but overall, they were OK. The dining room did an excellent job with the buffet dinner after golf although the food tables were a placed a little awkwardly..at the end of a hallway so flow wasn't all that good. I greatly enjoyed this round of golf.
