Whitney Oaks Golf Club
Played On 04/03/2024Whitney Oaks is in great shape
Whitney oaks is in great shape; from the Teebox to the Fairways to the greens to the sand traps - all well-maintained. That said it remains the toughest course in the Sacramento area. It is an excellent track with a variety of holes, but there is trouble on practically every hole and quite a few forced carries, etc.. despite the difficulty, really enjoy this course.
Castle Oaks Golf Club
Played On 03/21/2024Castle Oaks is good track but could be better
Castle Oaks is a good track, but with some small improvements could be much better. First 9 holes are longer and tougher than the back nine; especially since on this day, the fairways were not cut down (more like a first cut), and the first cut was very tall and thick. They did have mowers out there, so assuming this will soon be corrected. The second nine is easier than the first (about 300 yards shorter, not much trouble except 10/18, and the fairways in the first cut were much better.) Staff is friendly, pricing is OK, good putting green but driving range is worst in area and it’s not close. Basically hitting off dirt with a few clumps of grass here and there. Should install mats if you can’t keep the area with the semblance of some grass. Overall, still worth playing.
The Lincoln Hills Golf Club - Hills Course
Played On 02/03/2024Lincoln Hills is a great place to golf in the winter
I wish Lincoln Hills was a little bit closer to my home but when you’re tired of cart path only at all the other golf courses, you can almost always go to Lincoln Hills and worst case it’ll be the 90° rule. Exceptional drainage; will still be a little bit wet, but overall the courses in great shape even after lots of rain.

Played On 10/20/2023Timber Creek among best in Sacramento area
I really like this course; always the best maintained course in Sacramento area. First 9 is mostly open with some water in play. 2nd 9 has more trees and narrow fairways on a few holes. Not overly long (6,050 yards from Blue tees) but just enough trouble to keep you honest. A couple of bare spots in fairways and green repairs going on but otherwise great condition including bunkers, etc. Newly revamped practice area with excellent chipping area included (sand shots too). Putting green much slower than actual greens due to it being new (now mowing aggressively yet?). Friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club
Played On 08/25/2023Morgan Creek is not in good shape right now
Morgan Creek is not in good shape right now, especially the first nine. Quite a few bare spots in the fairways, greens in so-so condition etc. it’s too bad because this is a good track. Pace of play was good. Small bucket of range balls is $8 but their mats are old and worn out, Most other courses are $5 for a small bucket. Back nine is in a little bit better shape.but still wouldn’t recommend this course right now.
Diamond Oaks Municipal Golf Course
Played On 08/16/2023Mather Golf Course
Played On 08/08/2023Good Relatively Easy Course
We played the combo tees (blue/white), which is just under 6000 yards since the blues are 6400 and I was playing with someone in their 70s. With a high index. From the combo tees it’s an easy course; my index is around 13 and have shot 80 and 83 the last couple of times there. Many short par 4’s (very long from blue tees however). Pace of play was excellent although that’s not always the case, Course was in good shape although some of the tee boxes were a bit rough. It’s a wide open course with not much trouble other than some trees if you don’t drive it straight. Has new mats on the range has a pretty good practice area and putting green. Biggest pet peeve is the difference between the white and blue tees on some of the par fours. I’ve never seen such a big difference. For example the blue tees might be 420 and the white tees are 330 yards; there was at least three or four holes where it’s either too long or too short typically you would only see a 20 to 40 yard difference between tee blocks. Staff is always friendly. Good Course for working on swing or higher handicap golfers.
Timber Creek Golf Course - Lakes/Oaks
Played On 05/31/2023Timber Creek among best in Sacramento Area
Timber Creek is an excellent track that’s always in great shape. It’s among the best maintained in the area. The course is moderately difficult and the track is very interesting. The front nine is mostly open with some water in play and the back nine is mostly among trees. Greens are fast and roll true but hard to hold your approach shots. Excellent practice facilities although they are redoing the chipping area and putting greens - will be closed for another few weeks. They are also just finishing upgrading the driving range and it will be open by this Friday. Staff is friendly and pace of play is typically pretty good.
Timber Creek Golf Course - Lakes/Oaks
Played On 02/17/2023Timber Creek is always great
Started golfing here a couple years ago -;they maintain this course better than most in the Sacramento area. The first 9 is mostly open with some water in play while the back 9 is a bit longer with more trees and tighter fairways. Moderately tough course and is very fair.
Timber Creek Golf Course - Lakes/Oaks
Played On 11/27/2023Timber Creek is best maintained course in area with excellent practice areas
I love Timber Creek; it’s a moderately challenging course that is fair; if you’re hitting the ball well and straight, you can get a low score, but if not, it will punish you. Timber Creek is typically the best maintained in Sacramento area. The front nine is mostly open with some water hazards while the back nine is a bit tighter and tree lined.. The practice areas have been recently upgraded and are excellent. There was a few bare spots in the fairways, which isn’t typical, but I assume that’s because we’re rolling into winter. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this course.
The Ridge Golf Course & Events Center
Played On 07/04/2023Mather Golf Course
Played On 05/29/2023Easy Course - Stress Free Round
Mather is a relatively easy course without many hazards and wide fairways. Still have to hit the ball and putt well to score like any course. Course is in pretty good condition. Greens were hard and fast. Only issue is there is too big a difference between the blue and white tees. We played the combo (blue white) and on several par fours it was between 80 and 100 yards difference. Typically you would see between 20 and 40 yard difference. Hole four is a relatively long par four from the Blue tees of almost 400 yards but only 305 from the White tees; Hole 5 over 400 yards from Blues but only 325 from White. For those of us that the Blues at 6400 yards is a bit long playing the blue white combo is only 5970 and seems too short. Would expects whites to be about 6000 and combos about 6200. Regardless this is a good course to score well and fairways roll out well but hard to keep balls on green. Good practice areas although range matts are worn and should be replaced.
Wildhawk Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2023Solid choice for enjoyable golf
This is an underrated and very good course for senior & intermediate golfers. Relatively easy to score well and not excessively long. Course and greens are usually in pretty good shape although greens on this occasion we’re a little bit slow. Tee boxes are sometimes not in the best shape but they seem to be getting better. Staff is super friendly and the pace of play is usually pretty good.
Diamond Oaks Municipal Golf Course
Played On 04/10/2023Course in good shape but greens very bumpy & slow
This is a relatively easy course only about 6200 yards from the back (blue) tees. For a public course it’s in pretty good condition and I like that the practice areas and the driving range are very close to the clubhouse and the first tee. A few trees were still down from the very wet winter, some dead grass in the fairways but starting to fill-in now that it’s spring. Didn’t realize they had punched the greens about a week earlier; not very many holes, but they were extremely bumpy and slow.

Played On 02/15/2023The Club at Venetian Bay
Played On 02/01/2023Venetian Bay is in great condition
I’ve golfed here several times in the past, and this might have been the best conditions yet. First cut was mowed down so you didn’t lose balls a couple feet off the fairway like in the past. Tee boxes and the fairways are in excellent condition. Greens mostly good (2 or 3 holes had some issues) but better than it’s been in the past. Pace of play was great until last four holes but still finished in less than four hours. One small nit is the cart on several holes turned off for a split second giving me a warning for being off the course when I was on the cart path - a bit irritating.
Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club
Played On 12/07/2022This is a good course that could be much better
Morgan Creek is a great track but is not maintained as well as it could be. Greens were exceedingly slow possibly due to the recent rain. Half the ball washers were broken or had no water in them. The piece of play was excellent and there was a marshal on the course. Cart path only however, it seemed dry enough in most areas that they could’ve done the 90° rule although I understand some people will still drive through clearly wet areas and screw up the course. Fairly challenging course but fair.
Wildhawk Golf Club
Played On 11/27/2022Great weather & pace on a good course
Wildhawk is an underrated course; - not an overly difficult course, but most of it is in good condition, and the greens are very good. Tee boxes are the biggest issue. Many of them are in poor condition and worse not level. If they fix this one thing it would make a big difference. During the summer, they must have some irrigation leaks because the it will be wet in some areas but this time it was perfect since they’re not actively watering. Like any golf course pace of play can be a problem but today it was excellent. This is an excellent course for those that are not looking for a difficult challenge.
Wildhawk Golf Club
Played On 11/14/2022Good course with friendly staff
Wildhawk is a good relatively easy to moderate course with very friendly staff and good practice facilities. Pace of play isn't usually an issue but this day it was. The two groups in front of us were very slow. Almost a 5 hour round. Course was in good condition; greens very good fairways dry (wetter sometimes in summer from leaky irrigation?); only issue is some tee boxes are uneven or not in great shape. Can get pretty good deals sometimes but paid a little more this day.
