Buffalo Trace Golf Course
Played On 05/01/2023Not a bad value
French Lick Dye & Ross, Sultan's Run and Christmas Lake are much better courses but for the price, it's a good course for beginners and budget minded golfers. I liked the front much better than the back. Front was more open with an old school park like feel to it. The back 9 was in rougher condition and had design flaws due to limited space it seemed. The tunnel to 10 was cool but again that tight back 9. When in Jasper again, Sultan's Run is the best place to go for a golf experience. Buffalo Trace is a no frills but decent city course.
Champions Pointe Golf Club
Played On 04/21/2022Wet fairways and slow bumpy greens
Course is about a month away from being in really good condition. Currently the course is very wet and the greens were punched a couple weeks ago and are slow and bumpy. All the homes being built around this track have ruined the sceneries and old memories. Pure resendential track now.
Kearney Hill Golf Links
Played On 10/23/2021Slow play, deep rough
Lots of people playing today but unfortunately there was no starter to group anybody up leading to very slow play. The bent fairways were a little long but the rough was impossible to find your ball even if just off the fairways or around the greens which again led to slow play. The greens were super fast and with Dye's undulations made 3 putting and sketch chips common occurrences . This course plays long and hard, add in some wind and scores will skyrocket on this very good track in Lexington Bluegrass country.
Mineral Mound Golf Course
Played On 10/12/2021One of the best Ky State Park Courses
I've played MM about a dozen times since it opened back in 2003. Playing conditions varied but the scenery and layout of this track is fun and as challenging as you want from the tips. If you get the chance, play this course now. The fairways are healthy and lush and the greens are very plush. The only knock would be the speed of the greens. They are running about a 7. With a fine cut and roll, a 5 star rating is within reach.
Valley View Golf Club
Played On 03/20/2017Potential...
Long par 3's and par 5's will test you. The course conditions were surprisingly very good for early spring. The new greens and waste areas are tight, undulating, bumpy and firm. Couldn't hold a green with an 80's balata ball. When those new complexes soften, this course has very good potential to jump in the Southern Indiana/Louisville area places to play joining Chariot Run, Old Capital, Covered Bridge and Champions Pointe.
Eagle Ridge Golf Course At Yatesville Lake State Park
Played On 09/24/2016Terrible
The greens were aerated a week prior only the greens keeper used a chemical that ruined the tee boxes and greens. Totally unplayable conditions due to mud and fungus. I've played many times in the past here because of its unique layout, beauty and elevation changes but this will be my last time here again. The course is suffering obviously by the upkeep or lack of. Concrete cart paths are seperating and crumbling plus the run down carts are dangerous. With severe elevation changes and slippery slopes, its only a matter of time when another horrible accident will occur here again. After the round was mercifully over, I was rudely treated after complaining about the course conditions by the starter telling me " if you don't like it, don't come back". What ever happened to the customer is always right? I won't be back again.
Chariot Run
Played On 08/18/2016Gem
As always, Chariot Run never fails to disappoint. Fast smooth subtle breaking greens allows the average player to sink bookoo putts. This time of year its usually a little crusty but due to climate change, not this year. Stay away from this course because I want it for myself.
Mineral Mound Golf Course
Played On 08/08/2015great fairways horrible greens
Great course layout, beautiful fairways, excellent rough and manicured tee boxes. Unfortunately their greens were the worst I've played on this year. Several greens were completely lost of grass and resembled packed mud. Bunkers were all mainly washed out. It will take a good report on the condition of the greens for me to return. NOT recommended at this time.
Christmas Lake Golf Course
Played On 07/17/2014Very nice course and conditions
First time playing this course and I would have to say this is a very good golf course. The zoysia tee boxes were in excellent condition and the fairways were good with a few bad spots and a little crab here and there. Rough was spotty at times with lots of clover but the bentgrass greens were in good condition, very receptive and rolling bout a 7/8. Bunkers appeared well kept. Loved the layout and will return again when in the area. It would make for a nice weekend getaway playing Sultan's Run and Christmas Lake.
General Burnside State Park
Played On 06/14/2014Short Easy Ky State Park Course
I've played most of the Ky State Park courses and this one is not the in the top 3. Dale Hollow, Eagle Ridge, Hidden Cove and Mineral Mounds rank ahead of this nice but not a championship caliber course. This redone track would probably be too easy for the under 10 handicap golfer. Played about 6300 from the tips but with so many short par 4's and little trouble it was bombs away all day using short wedged into the greens. The course seemed cramped for space with several holes playing very easy. Zoysia fairways and tee boxes were very nice with healthy bentgrass greens. Unfortunately they needed a good cut and roll because putting on slow greens sucks. They were probably rolling around a 5 or 6 on the stimp. Bunkers were good and rough was sparse. As for the staff, she was pretty and friendly with no problems. I did not sample anything from the snackbar but did try to take out a turkey or two on the driving range.
Dale Hollow Lake Golf Course
Played On 06/13/2014One of Kentucky's Best State Park Courses
Terrific layout with good course conditions. Some fairways bunkers were unplayable and rough areas were sparse. The Zoysia Tee's and fairways were in very good condition. The bentgrass greens were healthy but unfortunately they needed to be cut and rolled badly. They were probably rolling no more than a 5 on the stimp which was very discouraging. Overall this is a must play course in the area and also a great weekend getway. This course reminds me of the RTJ courses in Alabama. Very scenic with rolling fairways, deep green side bunkers and lots of elevation changes and wildlife. One of the top 3 Kentucky State Park courses.
Lincoln Trail Golf Course
Played On 06/09/2014Got on for $11 lol. Not bad for a bermuda course
OK for all the hacks that say this is a great course, hidden gem, etc....well, it's not that great. Average track at best. Unfortunately, the greens were rolling really slow and needed cutting and rolled badly but they were healthy. The fairways are coming along nice and full but still had some bad spots and plenty of clover and weeds in areas. Not all the way green yet but in a few weeks these fairways should be almost good.
#1 is a terrible opening hole. layout sucks. Actually there are not very many good holes at this course. Doe Valley, Lindsey and Heartland are better courses in this area but it all depends on how each course's Bermuda fairways survived this harsh winter.
Very accurate review. I have also played all of the premier state park courses and would rank GBI 3 or 4.
