Vineyard National Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2022Disappointed
I played this course a little over one year ago and have raved to people about the amazing job the new owners had done on a course that had been completely run down. My takeaway was very different this time. The good news.... the greens were very, very good. Rolled nicely, excellent speed. Really will enjoy the greens.
However, the journey to the greens is made up of a lot of burned-out areas of fairways. I understand it's been hot, but if they are watering at all, too many areas are simply not touched. What was most surprising was the amount of crab grass in the rough, surrounding the greens and t-boxes. Seems like it has gotten completely away from them.
Staff is always great. Really appreciate everyone and the restaurant amenities are exceptional. I was hoping the golf course would be the centerpiece but that does not seem to be the case.

In fairness to the new owners, the course had been shut down for 3 years and has a long way to go. The greens on the front have a lot of damage where there is no grass. The back 9 is a little better. Lot of crab grass in the rough, bunkers need a lot of work (new sand would be in order). and too many bare spots on the fairways. The staff is great. Always have been from the Sea Oaks days. It's a tough situation in that I am sure the new owners want to generate some revenue. In the meantime, it's a grassy area to go hit the ball around. These are the same owners of the Renault Winery Course. I am rooting for them to be successful over the long haul because the area needs higher level public course.
Turtle Point at Kiawah Island Golf Resort
Played On 03/01/2020What a Bonus
I played a 2 day Golf Tour AM event. The first day we played the Ocean Course. Enough said there. The second day was Turtle Point and what a great bonus. Given that is was the off season the over seed on Turtle actually made some of the conditions even nicer here. The fairways and tees were pretty darn lush for the first day of March. We had perfect weather. Make sure to take a caddie if you can. Just makes the golf experience much richer. This course had a little more trouble off the tee if you don't hit it straight but coming back to the beach on the par 3 was another bonus. Just cannot recommend this experience enough. Enjoy!

There are plenty of bucket list golf courses for people who play regularly and this is certainly one of them. In many cases, you can pay a lot of money and just not feel like it was worth the time and cost involved. Not here! This experience lived up to the hype and then some. What a spectacular facility. The course while certainly difficult is fair. I am sure the second time around will be even better! It is a top shelf golf experience all around. Just go!

This course could be great. Its not, but it could be. The layout is a lot of fun, the greens were in nice condition, but it could use a little TLC. Still worth playing though for sure. The bag room staff are pretty unfriendly and seem to cater to the regulars. Once you get past the rudeness, the starter was great the folks in the pro shop and restaurant were super nice as well. Just a heads up so you don think its you!

This is a tough layout but a lot of fun to play. Lots of water so hit your spots! The staff is awesome...every single one of them. Some of the greens are a little rough. The vast majority roll beautifully but some seemed to have some areas where they need to grow back a little....but other than that, really a great course and great experience.
Trump National Doral Miami - Silver Fox Course
Played On 02/01/2019Marshal Anyone?
I've played this course a couple times recently and just love the layout and condition. There is a LOT of water on the course so you better hit it straight or bring a bunch of balls. (Unless of course you decide to play the blacks, then you better hit it really far and really straight!) The course has been in great shape and does not seem to get heavy play. However, the pace of play was brutal! (Again, the course was far from full) We waited on every single shot and not just a minute or two. What is shocking to me, as this group in front of us created so much pain to be behind, was there are no marshals on the course. None. And apparently never according to the staff when we eventually finished. I just don't get it and it will likely keep me from going back. Just too bad...

I've played this course before and will continue to go back. It's a great design and the green condition is the best in the area. This is especially a credit to the staff given how terrible the weather has been to this point. The staff is always friendly.

This has always been one of my favorite public courses in NJ. The links style layout cut into the pine barrens create a great experience and atmosphere. The staff is as friendly and focused on service as you can get. The course condition was very good despite the rough weather. Too bad many golfers do not do their part to fill divots and fix ball marks. Cant blame that on the course staff. BUT THE BIG NEWS....and my only complaint in the past...the geese were gone!!! There were a couple holes on this course historically covered with geese and their many presents! The course installed these geese sirens/lights and they are gone. (In a humane fashion for you geese huggers). The course looks great. You don't have to step through mind fields of excrement to get to your ball. The water is cleaner. Amazing!!! Awesome job Twisted Dune!!!!

This is a terrific golf course. The layout is very much a links style, naturally cut into the pine barrens landscape. The staff is always awesome. The boys at the bag rack are pleasant and upbeat. The course gets a little beat up this time of year and I just wish as golfers, players would take better care of the course and fix the ball marks on the greens and divots on the fairways. just too bad. BUT....the course needs a goose dog! 2 of the holes...especially number 9 are almost unplayable because there are so many of these disgusting birds. They have moved from the back of the course to the front and its bad on a couple holes...so just be mindful of that.

I liked the design and it was a good value for the money.....the staff was outstanding. Its February so the course was not in great shape but probably grows in nicely once spring time arrives. The greens were slow but rolled smoothly....just couldn't hit it hard enough! But if you are in the area for vacation and looking to get in a round...I'd recommend giving this course a try. If you use rental clubs...take a look at the grips...they left a little to be desired. But overall...not a bad round at all.

I really enjoyed this round of golf! The weather was foggy and pretty poor but I connected with 3 great guys and we may have set the record for the fastest 18 holes ever! It's the way gold should be played. The course layout is enjoyable and not too tricked up so even the first time one plays the course...you can figure it out. Bring your accuracy game however. There is a lot of sand and water so accuracy is a premium. The greens rolled nicely...not super fast and the breaks are not too difficult to read...but nice to putt on. T-box, fairways and bunker sand all well maintained. For a public course experience I would go back for sure. Wekk done Stonybrook!

Great conditions for a public course! Kudo's to Ron J's maintenance team for having such smooth greens after a long hot summer with plenty of use. They have had a weed invasion problem but again, credit to the team, they have already killed it off ready for the fall growing season. T-boxes are a little beat up but overall the staff has done a great job each season getting the course in better and better shape. Not an especially hard course but fun to play.

This is one of...if not the...most favorite public course I have played in NJ. I love the layout and how it was cut into the natural surroundings. The fairway and green conditions were excellent except for the 'golfers'....and I use that term loosely...who seem incapable of fixing their divots and ball marks on the green. Each of us fixed 2-3 on every green. That is just too bad. The maintenance crew were blowing off the clippings which you don't always see on a public course. Well done guys! (The bunkers could use some TLC) Aside from the geese sanctuary on 13 & 14 (they need a boarder collier), the course was really well maintained. Great staff...we'll be back!

Played On 04/10/2015Safe Bet
This is not a course I would go out of my way to play again, but if you are in the area, it is a safe bet to play. The course is in good condition, the staff is amazingly friendly and helpful and you can get around the course, IF YOU PLAY EARLY in a respectable amount of time. But it is certainly not a "memorable" course in any way. I didn't come away with any "wow" factors for views or any impressive holes.
Eagle Ridge Golf Club - Ridge Course
Played On 08/23/2014Almost hesitate to say it!
This is an excellent public course experience. The greens were quite good, the course was in excellent condition and the pace of play...especially for a Saturday...was just terrific!
The course has some interesting holes with some severe slope and in one case unusual tee to green path so it will be a lot better play the second time around.

Played On 08/08/2014Private feel on a public track
You can tell this course was once private. I enjoyed the design and was pleasantly surprised by the condition...especially the greens. I think they were among the nicest public greens I have ever played. I need a few more rounds to really get the hang of them...very enjoyable. The pace of play was brutal though. This was the second time I have played here, once on a weekday and once on a Saturday and they were both painfully slow....they need to put an extra five minutes between the groups.
No memorable holes? #7 is the closest thing a lot of people will ever get to playing the 17th at TPC Sawgrass.
