Grandview Golf Course
Played On 09/30/2020Got my $$ worth
Played with with a friend who lives in York Co on a $15 deal from GroupGolfer. Upon arrival there was a person outside taking certificates and fees and permitted me to jump right on. Despite there being a good number of people on the course, I was able to sneak in a hole for practice until my friend arrived. Be forewarned: there is a sign I didn't see saying no carts in lot. I rode the cart right my friends car, got a scowl, but that's it.
It was a windy day so it's not entirely fair to evaluate the ease or difficulty. Our biggest complaints were:
1. tee boxes need to be mowed
2. Course VERY poorly marked.
3. put more 150 yard markers
Otherwise I'd give the course a B. Despite aeration holes, the greens were rolling fairly true. The course has a nice mix of long and reachable holes. Cart paths are practically non-existent, but the carts worked well and the terrain was pretty smooth. No drinking water on course so bring your own.
For regular prices I wouldn't go back because I have so many better options nearby, but for $15, I'd say I easily got my money's worth
Reading Country Club
Played On 10/25/2019Worth way more than I paid.
STAFF: incredible. Guy greeted me and loaded my bag onto a cart and washed my club heads. When I came out to tip him he was gone.. Guy working pro shop was VERY accommodating. I was an hour early for my tee time and all he asked for was my name and I was off and playing. Guys mowing and blowing leaves were VERY polite.
COURSE: while nothing to go crazy over, it is a very nice and well kept track. Greens were fast and fair. Fairly short course. Houses only came into play on 2 holes. A few rough spots on a few greens, but overall a wonderful layout.
PACE: I was by myself on a cart. I needed to play through 3 groups and they were all VERY polite and accommodating. Finished in 2 hours and 15 minutes without rushing.
COST: I paid $12 on GolfNow. It took me an hour to get there and about 80 miles of round trip driving----------and well worth it. Will definitely return.
Manor Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2019Got what I paid for----and had fun
PROS:
- easy to find and close to PA turnpike and Rte 222
- plays longer than it's yardage on some holes because almost every hole is vertical
- greens in good shape
- some fun holes
- great course for the short but straight hitter; good irons practice for longer hitters;- I played conservatively (hybrids and irons off most par 4s) and shot 80 on a course I'd never seen before
- excellent price----worth the $$ despite cons
- friendly pro shop
CONS
- carts and paths a disaster waiting to happen; need to be fixed before someone gets badly hurt
- no water on course-------bring a thermos with you
- driving range landing area right at #17 tee box. Watch out!!!!!
- pace of play a bit slow
Shepherd Hills Golf Club
Played On 06/01/2019a terrible course with professional level greens
I played this course with a GroupGolfer certificate. Not what the photo indicated. For starters this is the second worst experience I've ever had as far as the presence of houses proximal to the course. While some courses seem like houses were built near the course, this seems like a development that decided to use the space between houses to make a golf course. Houses loom right next to almost EVERY hole. Unless you are Moe Norman straight, this course makes you afraid to take a full swing. The pro shop was unspectacular but the pro was very friendly and the people on the course were VERY gracious about letting me and the guy I partnered with play through. Pace of play was not an issue. The one thing you can't help but notice is that this muni level track has phenomenal greens! SUPER fast and very smooth.
Four Seasons Golf Course
Played On 11/15/2017GolfNow wow's em again!
The GolfNow phone personnel were able to arrange my last TWO tee times at Four Seasons. Last week the Hot Deal was for 2 players. GolfNow called the proshop and I was able to go as a single. Two days ago I played with a friend. 18 holes and cart for $24 for the 2 of us. Course in excellent shape----------even with sand on green.Arrived early and staff gave us no hassle about going out 15 minutes early. Snack shop was only low point. Need to bring food and/or drink next time.
Will be back again often!
Crossgates Golf Course
Played On 07/12/2017Country Club conditions at a muni price.
I've played Crossgates many times in year past, but if today's experience is representative of how things are there, I might not go anywhere else.
PRO SHOP: despite the plethora of horror tales I'd read about other courses when dealing with GolfNow. com, the guys couldn't have been friendlier OR more accommodating. I was 30 minutes early for my tee time and there was NO one on the 1st tee box or the 1st two holes. Instead of making me wait for the other guys at my time slot they got me out right away.
PACE OF PLAY: I finished in 2 1/2 hours playing 2 balls on my own each hole. Most of the times I've played at Crossgates the pace of play is quick.
COURSE CONDITIONS: The changes they've made over the years have only made the course better. Hole # 3 and #14 are simply better holes now. The greens were a tad slow by Crossgates standard-----------yet they were still quick.
Aesthetically speaking this is still one of the prettiest-----yet challenging short courses in the area.
AMMENITIES: the water stations were all stocked with cold water--------very necessary on a day like today. The ball washers all had fluid.
Monroe Valley Golf Course
Played On 05/25/2015Great View, Great Value, Great time!!!
This is the second time I played MV. I played yesterday because my wife and kids were doing a Hersheypark afternoon and it's only a 30 minute drive from there.
Things got off on a good foot do to James, the person working the shop. I couldn't print my GolfNow receipt because our printer was on the fritz and I have a dumb phone that won't show it----yet he assured me that it wouldn't be an issue.
To say that James went above and beyond the call of duty is an understatement. Even though I arrived 30 minutes early, he seemed to know who I was upon arrival and had my card waiting for me and took care of water by filling my cooler bottle with ice and water. If there was a blemish on this report card, there was no water OUT on the course. James made sure, however, that I had plenty going out.
MV is a very OPEN course with little in the way of shade. Yet despite there were only about 6 parallel fairways so you never felt like you were dodging balls from adjacent holes.
The greens were well groomed, but VERY slow. The tee boxes were adequately mowed so you didn't need 3" tees.
The course is not all that imaginative, but the views of the surrounding mountains still make for some great photo ops.It has more than adequate length so even the longer hitter will use every club in the bag. The long grass stretches offer plenty of challenge.
For the $$$, this is CLEARLY one of the best golf values in the area. James, keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hawk Valley Golf Club
Played On 8/8/2013Play before they build more houses
It's been 10 years since I played here and, while, the course is still nice, there are a LOT more houses around than I remember.
PROS:
- friendly staff. Ladies at fee shack let go out right away even though I was 30 minutes early.
- good mix of distances
- course seemed in nice shape
- for what I payed on Golf Now it was a GREAT value
- only hole with houses on back 9 is #10. After that you play 8 holes where they don't affect you
CONS
- front 9 is overwhelmed with houses. Hole number 7 is so bad that unless you're EXTREMELY confident and straight, you're very nervous to hit anything as you approach the green.
Conocodell Golf Club
Played On 07/24/2013Great bang for the buck.
Recently time magazine wrote an article about how Americans are looking more to 9 hole outings instead of 18-----both for cost and time savings.
Conocodell is a throwback to the Ma & Pa courses of yesteryear. I just hope it doesn't get sold to become a warehouse.
LOCATION and GETTING THERE: Unless you live in the Carlisle, Chambersburg or Shippensburg area, you're probably going to have to travel 50+ minutes to get there. Fayetteville is tucked in the middle of the country, but the surroundings are beautiful. While is wasn't difficult to find, you do have to endure the semi traffic on Rte 81.
STAFF there were more animals at the clubhouse when I arrived than there were people. A few dogs were near the entrance. When I came into the pro shop (I use that term with a grin) the gal there checked that I was logged in on GolfNow and gave me my cart key----even though I was 25 minutes early. When I returned it, she was quiet, but polite.
COURSE
Pros:
- drinking water at several locations---which is more than I can say for some championship courses
- VERY WALKABLE! Flat as a pancake so terrific for those that like to walk
- nice layout in that the holes weren't right on top of each other with the risk of balls coming frequently from other fairways
- adequate length for the low handicapper from the blues; enough woods and tall grass to require straight tee shots; open enough from shorter tees that you won't lose a lot of balls
- great little intersection with snack bar, ball washer, drinking water, portapotty and storm shelter at intersection. Intersection makes it that, if there isn't much traffic on course, you can easily replay either holes 3-5 or 6 & 7-------or all 5 of those holes. I replayed 3-5 without slowing anyone up and got 12 holes
- good carts. They were electric with plenty of power AND had the weather protectors on the back. Heck, most championship courses don't have that.
Cons
- greens looked nicely manicured-------but were incredibly slow;
- grass on tee boxes a bit high; bring extra long tees
VALUE
- if I lived closer I'd play this course a lot. Reminds me of 4 Seasons in Lancaster in a more rural locale. If you get one of the super deals on Golf Now------try it.
We are glad you had a great day at the Manor! Thank you for choosing us and we look forward to having you back!
