Tangle Creek Golf & Country Club
Played On 09/16/2018Wait and Bake
We normally enjoy TC but for two issues.
The bizarre practice range set-up.
You have to take a separate range cart - not the playing cart - to get to the range and even then you have to haul your clubs over hilly ground PAST an always empty "reserved for lessons" area to a very small practice tee.
Then haul your sticks back to the range cart - drive back up the hill and switch to the game cart.
BIZARRE!
So it's a hot and busy Sunday.
We tee off behind two foursomes - hubbies and wives.
Immediately we start waiting on every hole as they duff their way around the course at that oh-so-slow "just like the pros on TV!" speed.
And a personal favourite - park the cart and walk 50 yards to the ball on the other side of the fairway.
No marshall in sight - naturally.
Cart GPS constantly reminding us we're behind schedule -Ya Think!
Finally they send out one of the cart boys on the 15th hole - "we've asked them to speed up"
There's NO ONE in front of the two groups
Oh gee thanks.
"Sorry guys but it's busy" doesn't cut it.
We're high handicappers ourselves but when it''s busy we we know that you skip the do-overs and re-loads.
Ball went in the weeds? too bad- drop one and keep going.
Ready golf.
With GPS the management knew exactly where everyone was - no excuse for allowing slow play to continue.
TC isn't the only course that uses the "It's slow because it's busy" line - and it's a load of crap.
That's precisely when you need to be on top of it.
After all that we just wanted to finish and get out of there - we didn't even feel like golfing anymore.
Honestly, TC is giving the impression - and they aren't the only ones - that they're running a wedding and events business with a golf course as a sideline.

One of the best value for money deals in the GTA
Excellent condition - greens were in awesome shape and a few tricky holes to make it interesting.
Cardinal Golf Club - East
Played On 09/04/2017Marshalls missing in action
Played this course many times - usually a good experience for the money. Friendly staff and nice new carts with GPS.
Unfortunately on this busy holiday Monday there were no marshalls - just when they were needed most.
Sign on the first tee said Cart Paths Only - except it wasn't true. GPS were programmed for CPO on only 3 holes on the back 9 which were pretty soggy. A marshall could have told the 3 groups in front instead of us waiting for them to wander the fairways. A marshall could have told people to forget looking for balls - just drop a new one and go.
No excuse for that.

We play the Highlands several times a season.
One the best value for dollar courses around.
Some easier holes with generous fairways but also a few challenging holes that demand good shot-making.
Innisfil Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/08/2015Great value!
Probably no fun for the long bombers but a great little golf course.
Plenty of water, bunkers, trees and trouble to keep any golfer on their toes.
There are a few holes where you can get away with spraying the ball into the next fairway but otherwise accuracy is the key.
The fairways are kept in nice shape and the greens are excellent - better than many of the more expensive courses in the area.
Pro-shop facilities aren't fancy but you get the necessities with friendly service.
Good food and beverages for the post-round bragging/lying.
Great tips for a new golfer! Great to hear you enjoyed your overall experience and hung over for some food and drinks! Hope to see you soon!
Bradford Highlands Golf Club
Played On 08/16/2013Good value
Decent course at a reasonable rate.
Not a championship course but challenging enough for the better player and forgiving enough for the high handicappers.
Friendly staff and service.
Overall a 'good value for money' course.
Huntsville Downs Golf Club
Played On 9/1/2012nice local alternative to high-end courses like Deerhurst
Once you get past the ho-hum service the course was in excellent condition. Second time this year with an early tee-time that neither the cart person or the starter has made it in to work. One person in the pro shop to process the paperwork and then walk you over to the restaurant to sell you a coffee. They issue lots of pretty coloured bag and cart tags that no one ever looks at. Luckily the course is very nice. Challenging and scenic. I refused to play this course for a couple of years because of their "if you don't like it go somewhere else" attitude but it's worth it if you can get a good GolfNow rate. I think the emergence of North Granite Ridge has forced ownership to rethink their "only game in town" approach.
Bathurst Glen Golf Club
Played On 8/17/2012nice course for walking or beginners
Facilities are nice. Staff friendly.
I found it to be a bit on the expensive side even with the Golfnow discount.
Course is basically reclaimed cow pasture but that's OK. Not in pristine condition but it's flat and wide open so it's good for walkers, beginners and high handicappers.
