Pine Grove Springs Country Club
Played On 09/22/2019Sad, unforgiving little course
Goodness, what an unpleasant little course. Out of 9 holes, six were blind, with greens hidden behind slopes or around awkward doglegs. Conditions were sad, with scruffy greens, long fairway grass, and big holes in the fairways. The course has virtually no rough; if you miss the fairway your ball is eaten by unkempt, thick forest. I lost many balls. The one water hazard is also hidden until you go looking for where your ball landed, and it's dark and scary, a Steven King pond perhaps inhabited by dark slimy, golf-ball-eating monsters. Ninth green, a par 3, is so sloped that if you perchance hit the green the ball rolls right off into a sand trap. All in all a sad, frustrating experience that I will not be repeating soon. The only bright spot? It's cheap at $15. But you get what you pay for.
Bakersfield Country Club
Played On 05/30/2019Great value, nice people, fun course
Had a fun round in Bakersfield VERMONT, (not California) yesterday. Could only play 12 holes since 13-18 were close due to lingering wet conditions, but the 12 I played were a blast. Several blind greens, which is fun until a ball from the players behind you plunks down 10 feet away from where you're lining up your wedge shot!
The clubhouse is extremely modest with a cute and homey little bar. Thursdays are league supper night and we had a delicious lasagna.
Loved the place and would go back.
