Shepherd's Crook Golf Course
Played On 06/30/2018Cant wait to play again
For years I have been told how great this course was. Links style courses are usually not my favorite. I was happy to see that this course is much more. We played the last day of June with temps 95+.I broke a sweat just loading my clubs in the cart. Had a nice breakfast sandwich, the attendant was very nice. The course starts out somewhat lame. Three straight par fours in the middle of the fields, back and forth. The fourth hole is a brutal 200+ Par 3 which is a test. The 5th hole is where I started to really like this course. There were rolling hills and trees!. Most of the holes are flat surrounding a hill that has 4 -5 holes integrated in it. The real challenge are the finishing Par 5 holes, 9 and 18. Both very similar and offer everything that makes for great finishing holes. They are manly long (575 yards) winding down the fairway working up to elevated greens with stepped traps and brutal rough. The greens were all very unique and challenging. Well worth the trip to Zion.

Have not played in 25 years. Played for the second time in a week yesterday. On the surface looks like a wide open muni course. After playing a few holes you cant help but take note of the outstanding condition of this course. The tees, fairways and especially the greens are equal to most CC on the north shore. Greens are fast, true and very challenging. From the black tees (6600) there are few driver wedge par 4's. Staff very nice. Best part was the cost ($13) +sc with cart.

I have played this course numerous times over the past few years. Have always been a big fan and supporter. They have the cheapest rates and you can get on at any time. I would not play there again if it was free. It appears that they are just letting the course conditions go. The greens were like fairways. what were some of the faster more challenging greens have grown out to the point that the ball bounces to the hole. The rough was US Open quality, appears to have not been cut in weeks. This made for many lost balls and alot of time wasted looking for shots that were 5 yards off of the fairway. The traps have not been maintained. Like hitting off a parking lot and many unplayable. To make matters worse, they had a strict sign on every cart that if you left the cart path, you would be thrown off of the course without a refund. The course had some soft spots but for the most part was dry. After about 5 holes we ignored the rule stating that they would be doing us a favor to send us home from the cow pasture. Putting was more like croquet, not golf. After the 16th hole we went home. Too bad as it was a nice course in its day.
