Return to Former.Glory

When we lived in Alabama, Limestone had become one of my favorite courses. We moved away, and I heard that ownership had allowed course conditions to decline. I’m happy to report that it’s BACK!

Aside from a few sandy spots on the greens’ edges, the course is in great shape. I’ve always enjoyed the layout. Challenging but not back-breaking. I wish they had allowed the rough to grow a little before the Bermuda went dormant because the fairways are plenty generous. My only complaint with the layout is #18. It’s just an uphill, straightaway, long par 4. Not very memorable.

Pace of play after the first 5 holes was atrocious, but I’m thankful for a proactive marshal who forced the slow group to speed up. We played in 4 hours 45 minutes.

Still - I love the course. Great experience!

Please Review Courses Honestly

My mother always told me - "don't say anything, if you can't say something nice." I love the routing of the holes at Twin Creeks. Great combination of physical and strategic challenge. Plus, if you cut the ball like I do, it sets up nicely. Having said that, the course is dying for some attention. it just looks shaggy. Tee boxes have been allowed to become overrun with weeds. Rough areas should be "rough," but don't you want it to look like you care about it. The greens had been recently punched, and I'm OK with that (although there didn't seem to be a notice on the website - maybe I missed it). However, punched or not, the greens would have been horrible. Inconsistent grass height and many, many bare spots.

I hadn't played TC in a long time. I decided to play it, based on recent reviews that indicated it was in really good shape. That proved to not be the case. Here's my request to everyone who posts reviews. Be honest with what you see and experience. People will make decisions, based on what you tell them. Be upfront with them.

Thanks!

Fantastic!

The best conditioned course I've played in North Texas this season. They have done a phenomenal job with the course. If it was closer to my house, I'd play here much more often.

Largest Greens Ever!

We played all 3 Streamsong courses. Every one had something to recommend it as the best one on the property. The Black is designed so that you can get some whacky bounces, and the greens are are humongous. I've never seen sprinkler heads on a putting surface, but every green has them. This was a great experience. My only disappointment was the condition of the greens. They just weren't up to the quality of the Red or Blue. They were a little shaggy and the grain seemed to be more impactful.

Hardest of the 3

I love the Red, and for me, it's the hardest of the 3 Streamsong courses. It's flatter than the Blue and the Black, and that includes the greeens. Crenshaw/Coore were dastardly in their design, however. While the other 2 have fairways that almost allow you to hit your tee shot anywhere, they placed fairway bunkers that force you to hit it on one side or the other. If you don't, you will probably end up in a bunker. Pick the wrong route and the hole plays harder than if you pick the correct one.

Beautiful!

I believe the greatest thing man can do to add beauty to God's creation is build a golf course. The Blue at Streamsong lives up to the challenge of that conviction. Tom Doak built a golf course that may not quite have the shot values of the Red or Black, but it gives you views that will take your breath away. For me, that makes a course worth playing. Don't get me wrong. The Blue is an outstanding course and will offer you an unbelievable experience. I think the 18th hole is one of the best on the property. I say "think," because we played it in the dark! Had to finish.

Incredible!

If I've ever played a better-conditioned course, I don't remember it. The Dye Course at French Lick is everything you expect a Pete Dye course to be. It challenges your eye. It provokes a little self-pity. The greens are almost impossible. It brings out your "left brain" creative self. It's also the biggest golf course I've ever played, and the 18th hole is the largest hole on the biggest course. I have one complaint. The $350 greens fee is unnecessary. I think it's that expensive, because the resort wants to maintain a level of exclusivity for the course that, unfortunately, keeps many people from enjoying a golf course that should be played by many more golfers. We saw one other twosome during our entire round.

Lots of Up and Down

Play the Ross Course at French Lick! The green complexes are probably as much fun as any I've ever played. Be prepared for lots of elevation change. I wouldn't want to walk it. (Really peppy golf carts get you around quite nicely.) I loved the golf course. You should play it any time you're at French Lick Resort. One more thing... I saw a review in which someone complained about the greens. There's nothing to complaiin about now. They aren't easy to play, but they're smooth, fast and true.

Not a Flat Lie on the Golf Course

While there are too many parallel fairways for my liking, the U of M Golf Course is a fun one to play. I just hope you have better balance than I do, because any approach shot is going to be struck from an uphill, downhill or sidehill lie. The greens are similar to the fairways, as they have some really large undulations. They were a little slow, and I think they have to keep them that way, or they'd be unplayable for most of us. It's not often you get to play a course designed by two of the game's greatest architects - Perry Maxwell and Allistair McKenzie. The course is available to faculty, students and staff. We gained access through the "Alumni for a Day" program.

Never Disappoints

Heritage Ranch is a great track. The conditions were outstanding, except for the aerified greens (hey, they have to do it). It's important to position your tee shot in the proper place on many holes.

Disappointed in the greens

I've always enjoyed the Trails. I feel like the layout fits the property and offers a nice challenge. However, the greens are in terribly bad shape. Part of that is due to golfers failing to repair their ball marks. (Come on people! It's not that hard.) In addition, while I don't mind a course playing hard and fast, this course would be better served by having it slowed down a bit. How about a program of punching the fairways and top dressing them?

I've always liked this layout

The Trails is a good challenge, while not being a "back breaker." The greens were in really good shape and had a little speed to them. The fairways were a little thin in some places, and that presented some challenge.

It's back!

Played Westridge on Good Friday and was frustrated by the poor condition of the course. Well, let me tell you - it's back! Tees were awesome. The fairways were fabulous. There's enough rough to punish a poor drive and to frame the fairways. The greens are almost perfect. There are still 4 or 5 that have some fairly minor issues, but they're true and have a little speed to them. Congratulations to the Superintendent and crew. You've made a huge difference!

Short, fair, slow greens

I enjoy playing Plantation. The course is short, but if you play it from the Blues, it's still a decent test. I love #5, #9 and #18. I hate #4 and dislike that the short Par 4's offer no option of going for the green off the tee. The thing that bothered me most this round was the slowness of the greens. They were really "hairy," grainy and even slower than usual. Cut 'em down just a bit and get 'em rolling a little more quickly.

First Time on the New Greens

This was my first time to play The Tribute since the new Bermuda greens went in. They're outstanding! I'm glad to see that so many courses are finally figuring out that Bent Grass greens just aren't a great idea in Texas. I was surprised to find the greens as firm and fast as they were, only a few weeks after the course re-opened. Play it soon - before the Bermuda goes dormant.

Stress-free golf

The Bermuda greens in the area are starting to come out. This is true of Plantation. They're slow, but they're free of poa and thin patches. The fairways are tight. If you like a little cushion under the ball, aim for the rough. The course doesn't demand much in terms of shot-making, and it has too many short par 4's. However, it's still a fun round of golf.

Great experience!

I love this golf course! The conditions are better than any public-access course in our area. I love the subtle shot values. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the speed of the greens. They were really slow. However, it was at least 100 degrees the day I played, so they have to keep them long and wet so they don't lose them.

Lots of promise

I enjoyed the routing of the course, for the most part. Overall, the course isn't in very good shape. If you wanted to cut them some slack you might say they were going for the "Pinehurst #2 look," but I don't think that's the case. I just think their maintenance budget isn't big enough. The greens were an OK speed, but they were bumpy. I found the scorecard to be inaccurate (#2 and #3 seemed to be backwards, as far as the yardage is concerned). Lastly, the way some of the holes come together is a little awkard - difficult in a couple of places to know exactly where to play to. I think a couple of guys jumped in front of us, b/c they got confused. I may go back in a few months to see if the conditions improve. I'd love for that to happen, b/c I think this place could really be good.
