Fox Hollow Golf Club
Played On 03/28/2015A real gem of a course. Not sure why reviews on Yelp, Google of course not overall positive. Would play here again easily.
Played one of first days open for 2015 season. Course conditions, including greens, very good given course covered in snow week prior. Only few areas soggy but none terrible. One large fairway bunker not maintained - can't recall hole - but again course snow covered days prior to my playing. Not sure what history of course is but truly beautiful layout. Mindful of private course layouts I play and have played in past. Playing partner and I wondering if course was private equity only club at some point that opened up to public. Hilly to walk but personally enjoyed that. Not for everyone, however. 12:05 p.m. tee time. Young man behind pro shop counter asked me to wait until after 12 noon to pay because that is when prices drop in computer. Apparently cannot discount prices in computer system manually which I had no problem with. Range only cost $5 for unlimited golf balls. Great deal. Range with 4 targets not including close range elevated green to hit to and practice sand bunker. Course easily accessible off of routes 287 and 78. Does not take long to get to despite mileage listed on GolfNow, similar to Panther Valley Country Club in Allamuchy. Really no complaints at all. A real gem of a course. Not sure why reviews on Yelp, Google, etc. of course not overall positive. Not indicative of experience at Fox Hollow GC. Really enjoyed time there. Would play there again easily.
LBI National Golf & Resort
Played On 08/03/2014Very good overall but greens could have been better
Very good overall but greens could have been better. Bumpy, slow and a little uneven. Before round pro said greens keepers had grown grass up in a little in early summer anticipating a hot July and August but that temperatures had been moderate. I am guessing there is a reason they decided not to cut grass down in July. Wish they would have. A little expensive for how the course was maintained but again not terrible. Good course and very nice staff.
Sunset Valley Golf Course
Played On 07/13/2014Pin placements can make this course very challenging
Overall, liked course quite a bit. Since Billy Caspar started managing seems the overall upkeep of the course has improved. Love that they offer 5:30 a.m. tee times. Course requires you to shape shots in certain situations which is fun. Nice variety of very challenging homes and holes that provide a little reprieve. Green complexes can be very severe, depending on pin placement. In some cases if you do not hole put you can go 7-10 feet by hole. Pretty penal at times. A lot of potential to slow down play, but overall was not an issue on the day.
Mattawang Golf Club
Played On 03/21/2014Can see how this was a private course at one time
Some nicely designed holes. Fair test of golf. First few holes straightforward but gets more challenging after that. Greens grainy when I played but still with moderate speed. Greens challenging to read which added to the fun of the round. Really had to pay attention to how playing partners' putts broke. With better groundskeeping can see how this could have been a private course at one time. Easy to see how pretty it could be.
Knoll West Country Club
Played On 10/08/2013Great value course. Wonderful staff.
Great value course. Wonderful staff. Course well maintained. Nice design. Greens med-slow but rolled true. Bunkers well maintained. Really no complaints. Probably a bit of an unknown gem in the area. Again, staff - Mark Thunberg et al - all great. Would recommend course.
Bowling Green Golf Club
Played On 8/24/2013Fun course. Good value. Nice course for walking.
Fun course. Good value. Nice course for walking. Very nice staff. Has a full driving range including practice bunkers which is rare for a public course - a nice feature. Tee boxes a little chewed up and a little uneven. Greens were aerated and had sand when I played so were molasses slow but that is in the name of maintenance so what can you do about that? Would play again and would recommend.
SkyView Golf Club
Played On 8/16/2013Overall great. Would overall recommend. Just don't like certain holes on the front 9.
Overall great. Would recommend. Just don't like certain holes on the front 9 - a lot of blind shots, which can be dangerous on a somewhat crowded course. I wish the tee boxes were more of a flat surface. On back 9 seems a little dangerous how holes are closely situated and face one other but nothing can really be done about that. Just be watchful of errant shots. On 18 there are a lot of range balls on the right side of the fairway. Watch your head if you drive one up that side. We did get caught behind a foursome that were playing tees that were inappropriate for them and, despite telling us they would pick up their pace on two occasions, they did not. Don't know if any staff members spoke with them. Course otherwise well maintained. Staff very friendly. Clubhouse nice. Practice facilities nice. Very good value. Would play again.
Glad you enjoyed the layout. You will really enjoy yourself this spring when our new maintenance team gets going!
