Needs a bunch of TLC

Moderately difficult but not a great design. If you're walking, it's tough. Conditions are best in the Spring, as the course gets lots of play, and many of the fairways need additional drainage as standing water rots everything up. The bunkers are horrible. They need to be redone. Bergen is the largest tax revenue county in NJ and the county puts no money into the course. And Darlington is the BEST of the five Bergen Muni's.

Does "minimalist" refer to the amenities? Or the staff's attitude?

So this is a great design on a fabulous property. Old school - second best golf in the Sandhills after #2. High hopes abound. It starts at the check-in. Not a word - or a smile - or a greeting. Just the facts - who are you, what's your time and how you payin'? Can I walk? "Yeah, but it's the same price and you can't take a pushcart". No food at the halfway house, just snacks. Oh, and the ranger (also the front desk guy). Goes up to our group at a par 3, just as we finished hitting (after waiting for the green to clear), and literally yells: "You're holding up the whole course". Instead of driving two foursomes ahead which was causing the backup. I've played enough golf, and understand there are jerks everywhere; played well and loved the course. But I won't go back.

TPC = Truly Poor Condition

If the PGA wants to protect their brand, they should remove the TPC name from Eagle Trace. The fairways are beat up. The bunkers need TLC or re-do. Paid $89 the first time, $55 the next. Save your cashola - not worth it.

Just Sayin'

The course is kept in good shape, and the greens are fine, and fast, maybe 11-12. Bunkers could use a little TLC. Really I was not bowled over, especially at $85. Once in a while, they go to $50, but then the course is packed. To be honest, Osprey Point is better golf, less expensive - and they allow walkers.

2nd best Muni in South Florida

Played 9 holes. Walked. Took our threesome (the other two rode) 1:45 to get around. The course is in excellent condition tee-to-green. The greens are fast and true. $23 to walk nine before 8am or after 12 Noon. Well worth the drive up from Pompano.
PS - the best Muni in South Florida is the Nicklaus course at North Palm Beach.

Thank you for your kind words about Osprey Point. We are happy to hear that you found the course to be in excellent condition and that your pace of play was so good. While we may debate with you on the topic of the best public course in the area, we certainly hope you will visit us again soon.

Mr. Ross would be sad...

at the condition of his course. Like many of the South Florida munis, this one is tired and unloved. The fairways are littered with crabgrass, the greens OK. I paid $15 for early AM back 9, and it was just about worth that.

They did their best....

Can-Am screwed up my time at another course so I walked up at Carolina as a single, without a time. Both the starter and the pro shop did their best to get me out. While I was waiting, they gave me a small bucket. And then I got out - the course has plenty of water - left, right, and center. the longest "wood" I carry, besides the driver, is a 3 hybrid which I hit 180 in the air. Yet I only faced one tough forced carry so straight is more important than long. Fair conditions for Winter. Got around in 4 hours but weather was poor, so course not crowded. I plan to go back. Good value.
