Layout To Match The Red Rock Scenery

I have played Greenspring numerous times, but not in the past decade until recently. This public course in the red rock country if Washington, Utah, located in the southwestern corner of Utah has always offered a great layout with some of the best holes in the state. But, there have been challenges with the original blue rye mix used for the tees and fairways as the summer temps can hit 105+. The switch to paspalum in chronic problem areas has made a big difference. Course conditioning now is on par with the scenery, layout, and overall value given Utah’s reputation for affordable public green fees combined with quality courses. leads the league in this regard.

True Links Experience in Utah’s Red Rock Country

I absolutely love this nine-hole, true links course. I was told in the pro shop that the plan is to eventually add nine more holes, which will give Sand Hollow an outstanding “traditional” red rock desert eighteen plus this true links eighteen. The ragged-edge bunkering, large greens, and multiple playing lines off each tee are so much fun to play. I could play this course every day without getting bored.
My only complaint is that while the well-known and highly rated eighteen at Sand Hollow is a great golf course, I wish the developer would have / could have finished all eighteen links holes when Sand Hollow opened approximately fifteen years ago.
Great course when you have time for only nine, when you need a warm up nine when traveling to St. George from Utah’s “Greatest Snow on Earth” climate that begins just 40 miles north of the St. George area, or when you need an additional nine to settle your group’s action from the round you played on Sand Hollow’s more well-known eighteen.

Mountain Dell Lake is Sweet

This is a wonderful municipal golf course. Located just ten minutes up the canyon from downtown Salt Lake City, the Lake Course at Mountains Dell makes you feel like you are playing one of the big dollar private courses another twenty minutes up the canyon around Park City. The putting surfaces and fairways are immaculate, the layout is excellent, especially for a municipal course priced at under $40, and the scenery including wildlife is a wonderful bonus. Overall, a great value and wonderful retreat close to the city especially when the temps are in the 80s during the summer when it is pushing 100 in Salt Lake City.
