SilverRock Resort
Played On 01/26/2015Not worth the money
Unless you're a resident of the area the course is way too expensive for what it is. Fairways are generous, the greens are O.K., they were slow and quite beat up when we played, the pace was slow...but the kicker was it started to rain when we were on the 10th tee so we decided to try to continue but it started raining harder and getting windy so after the 11th hole we headed in to see if they would give us a rain check. No dice. As it probably only rains about 6 times a year in La Quinta you'd think they'd be more willing to accommodate you. Again if you're a resident you don't pay much to play this course but the rest of us pay a premium. Overall its not worth the money...there are lots of better courses in the area for 1/2 the cost.
Rancho Mirage Country Club
Played On 01/19/2015Picturesque
This course has the most picturesque holes of any of the country clubs in the Palm Springs area. They epitomize Palm Springs golf in that you have the views of the mountains framed by palm tree lined fairways that reach up and touch the blue sky. This course is what I envisioned when I thought of golf in Palm Springs. I could easily imagine the stars of Hollywood walking theses fairways.
The course itself is well laid out with great greens but the fairways were a little scruffy....the grass on the fairways needs work. It doesn't very often give you a good lie...its thin and lays flat...the ground underneath is hard.
Having said that I still say you have to play this course. The sense of nostalgia alone is worth the money.
Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Indian/Mountain
Played On 01/16/2015Not bad.
Staff very friendly and helpful, clubhouse nice, golf course has some interesting holes, greens very good and roll true but fairways lack good grass. The ball settles down in long thin grass, ...it could have used a cutting... Tee boxes weren't level and grass was very clumpy...overall not a bad course but there are many that are better.
Mountain Vista Golf Club - Santa Rosa Course
Played On 01/10/2015Not enjoyable.
Having never been at this course before it was difficult just to find the course. This course is in a secure community so be prepared to spend a few minutes getting through security. The course itself is not marked with signage...the first building that looks like it may be a clubhouse simply says, "recreation center". So after driving on, then asking directions from 2 separate people, which were wrong, we went back to the recreation center which turned out did have the golf shop attached to it.
The golf course itself is rather mundane. It's a simple layout with most holes being straight, and having elevated greens.
Be prepared for a 5+ hour round as the course caters to more of a senior crowd. This normally would not be a concern but for my round the group in front of us was painfully slow to the point of causing a 3 group backup on the tee. When we spoke to the Marshall about it he told us that there was no problem and we should expect a slow round. Later, the Marshall came to us in a panic, told us that the slow group in front were going to leave the course and told us that WE were going to have to go faster because the groups behind were livid at the slow pace.
Overall, didn't enjoy the experience or the course.
Belmont Golf Course
Played On 09/15/2014Great course
This course has it all. Doglegs, elevation changes, strategically placed hazards, great greens. This is a fairly challenging course...bring your game. If you play from the tips be advised that the par 3's all play 200 yards or better so you may want to utilize a different tee box or 2 just to change it up but other than that and the lack of a practice range (there is a net to hit into if you really want) this is a must play.
Radium Resort - Springs
Played On 06/26/2014One of my favorites
When I'm in the area I always make a point of playing this course. Its definitely in my top 3 courses to play. Its pretty, its challenging and its very good value. The course offers lots of variety, elevation changes and some of the most picturesque holes anywhere. The pro shop staff could be a little bit friendlier but overall this is a fantastic resort course. I highly recommend it.
Princeville at Hanalei - Prince Golf Course
Played On 01/29/2014Bravo Mr. Jones Jr.
You step up to the first tee and you think...oh my gosh...what do I do? Thankfully the course starter tells me that a shot of 220 to 230 is called for to a landing area that slopes away from you to the hazard. Intimidating? You bet. If you miss that, the fairway zigs right then left and its narrow! You think to yourself...I didn't bring enough golf balls.
That is the true beauty of this golf course. Mr. Jones Jr. designed a course that makes you think. Yes, you have to think about every shot you play. If you do that, you will have a truly great golf experience. I did.
I found this course to be breathtaking, difficult, but fair. Its not for everyone but if you've got game...you have to go. This course gave me my most memorable golf experience. Loved it. Bravo Mr. Jones Jr.
