Rio Hondo Golf Club
Played On 01/05/2024SLOW Pace
Tricky, challenging and rewarding course, that is in great shape, and the greens are super fair and in great shape, too. The bunkers have real sand not hard packed dirt.
Five hours and 11 minutes to play 18 holes Friday with a noon tee time , teeing off at 12:25
Great course to play if you happen to get lucky on a day that it is not slow.

Played On 07/23/2022Beautiful Fun and Challenging
Played on a Saturday late morning as a foursome, and we never waited and were never pushed. The marshals are friendly, understanding yet firm in maintaining pace of play. Four hours 10 minutes on a Saturday afternoon! The greens are in great shape, a little soft, the bunkers are typical hard dirt municipal bunkers, the tee boxes still have spots where you can tee off from level ground.
The layout is interesting and challenging, without being too difficult or too easy. The staff are very friendly, the food is excellent, the parking is easy and accessible. And seeing all the deer on the course while you are playing, with hawks flying overhead, it’s a beautiful setting.
Thank you for taking the time to review us, Torchlight. Your feedback is valuable, and we look forward to delivering you excellent service again soon. Marshall Canyon Golf Club thanks you!

Played On 07/10/2022Lots of Potential
Sunday early afternoon, multiple golfers driving onto the tee boxes, and/or directly next to the greens, not fixing divots or ball marks.. Greens are in good shape, although many had multiple unfixed ball marks. Dirt hard bunkers. Some fairways were nicer than others. It appears they allow fivesomes, at least they did on Sunday.
$62 w/ a cart, 5 hours on the nose.
It’s a nice challenging layout, if only it was in better shape. The pro shop staff are super friendly and helpful, ditto for the restaurant staff.

This is a popular course, because it is easy to find parking, the staff is friendly, the course is challenging without being difficult, the price is pretty reasonable, and is easy to get to.
The challenge is the pace of play. We were a foursome, on a Saturday, and our round was five hours and 35 minutes. We barely made it before the sun went down. There are a lot of players who mark very short putts, take too long to swing, take too long to measure out and walk their putts from every angle just like a pro on TV, and no one in their group calls them on it. Very few groups play quote ready golf “
The pace is slow, because it’s a popular place, filled with people of all kinds of skill levels, etiquette and awareness.
So, you pay your money and you take your chances.

Played On 11/15/2018Beautiful & Slow
The course is in great shape - although a flat tee box would be helpful - and the greens are rolling nice and true.
Played during the week as a threesome, the course was full and we finished just a few minutes over 5 hours. No Marshalls for pace, just for water.
Nice staff, beautiful layout, plenty of parking, food off the bev cart (bev cart person Maria is really terrific) is great but limited; ordering food from the restaurant is a joke: on hold with no pick up.
You should play here, just be prepared.

6 hours, 12 minutes. As a foursome that played “ready golf”, didn’t check or answer cel phones in the fairway, didn’t 5 putt, and kept up with group in front. The marshalls do not marshall - although they are friendly! - and the manager just shrugs. Nice course, great staff, unplayable pace. If you are looking to spend the day playing golf, you can do it here, because that’s how long it takes.
DeBell Golf Club
Played On 04/19/2018Great Round
If you have never played this course, it can be a challenge, as you do not need a driver on every hole. Some, you do not even need a fairway wood from the tee.
The greens are in great shape, and everything else is just as you’d expect from this course.

Playing on a windy Tuesday morning as a twosome, pace was awesome, just over 3 hours. Excellent course for the money, great staff and great layout. No complaints, only compliments.
Sand Canyon Country Club
Played On 03/18/2018Wow! Except...
What a beautiful, well-designed, not easy but not hard course! The greens are true and readable, fairways are not too narrow, bunkers are typical wet dirt/sand and the distances are playable.
They say they do not allow 5-somes on the weekend, but it’s not enforced, so they do. And along with no Marshalls, this made for a 5 hour and 35 minutes round.
Easy to find, Easy to park, greeted with a smile and a welcome, great pro shop, great food and the cook/cart person were outstanding.
So, it has everything going for it, if only they enforced the pace of play and the no 5-somes.

Brookside #1 is a nicely maintained, well laid out, challenging course that also has its rewards. You need to approach each hole creatively and with a plan; it doesn’t work to just walk up to every hole with your driver, hit as far as you can and then hope you can get on in regulation.
The challenges is: boredom and muscle atrophy will set in long before you can execute your plan. The pace of play here varies from bad to horremdous. On this day, after five hours, we still were not teeing off on hole number 17.
And there’s no consequence. No one moving folks along, no one enforcing faster play.
So, if you were looking to play golf all day, you can certainly do it here.

Played On 09/12/2015Good Round - Record time
It can happen: 12:30PM, on a Saturday, as a 3-some, finished in 3 hours, 10 minutes. also stopped at the turn to order refreshments.
No one in front of us , ever, the whole time. Or behind us.
Good job, Santa Anita- I will return.

In golf there are three conditions that make or break the experience: The course itself , The staff, and the players in your group.
Las Vegas National hit it out of the park again on all fronts. From Randy picking up your bags and getting you set up to Chris at check in, Cory as the Starter and Lisa in the cafe.
The course is in excellent condition even though it's August , and the group I was paired with were fun to play and patient with my game.
It's a great value and a fun challenging course.
Funny note: I think the backyard dogs that are next to some of the tee boxes were trained by their owners to bark during your backswing .

Not crowded the Sunday after Independence Day. Good pace, friendly and helpful Marshals, too.
Good job improving the pace of play.

I'm afraid to write the glowing review this course deserves, for fear that other golfers searching for a great local course at a fair price will flock to it, and tee times will disappear:-)
Excellent fair greens, challenging holes that are not too daunting, "relief" holes that help you improve your score or get your confidence back, and a quiet, beautiful setting make this an excellent course. The Pro Shop staff and Starters are friendly, helpful and accommodating. The price is great.
Pace of play was just shy of 4:40 for a 2 behind a 5 behind a 4. During the week, that's a bit slow.
But that's really the only spot on this pristine place.
It's now in my Top 3 Local Favorite Places to Play.
Easy to find, easy to park, too.

For how baking hot it was that day (near 95) the fairways and greens were in good condition. The greens usually play like a billiard table with the cup getting in the way, but were in better condition this time. The cart and grill window girls were friendly, and check in was efficient.
The pace was slow even though there was no crowd. I would play here again if they keep improving like they have lately.
