It was a great day for golf with friends

Mother Nature provided a great day for me and my group to be on the links. Conditions of the course were very good. Fairways had green grass (not always the case this time of year on courses in the Valley of the Sun). And the fairway and green-side bunkers had sand in them! What a novel concept. A couple of other courses that we've played recently had sandy dirt in them, so we had to re-learn how to hit bunker shots. The greens were very firm and fairly fast. It was difficult to get a shot into a green to stop quickly, but they putted true. All in all, we had a great time.

Need sand in the greenside bunkers!

I have played this course dozens of times over the past many years. The bunkers around the greens have never had much sand in them. They've always been basically sandy dirt. This most recent round, however, the bunkers were very wet, so they were sandy mud. I've always been able to use a wedge, instead of a sand wedge, to play out of them, usually with great success. Not this past round. The club would dig into the mud and stop, thus I left the ball in the bunker a few times during my round. I was told by a course ranger many years ago that the reason for lack of sand is that the "snowbirds" like to be able to putt out of the bunkers. My comment to him-that's not golf. As far as the rest of the course on my most recent round-it was in pretty good shape. Greens were a little dried out and crusty, but to be expected on most public courses around here this time of year. They putted good, mostly true. Fairways were green. Overall, the course is a good value for the price. And yes, I will be back as I have always liked the layout and I consider it to be "user friendly".

Like reuniting with old friend

I used to play this course a few times a year when I lived in Chandler. Have always like this course. I call it a "user friendly" course. Since I've moved to QC, haven't played here as often. The fairways were in great shape. Greens were great-putted true and they were on the fast side (which I prefer). We got the round in in good time-had no delays or waits on tees for group in front. All in all, was a great day to spend a few hours on the links.

Not a fun morning

I hadn't played this course for a couple of decades, but decided to give it a shot based on some of the recent reviews. All I can say is, my partner and I both agree that this course was not in very good shape. The tee boxes were basically dirt and sand. And a lot of the boxes had a crown to them that made it extremely difficult to find a level spot to hit from. The fairways on some of the par 4's had bare areas that were very soggy. If you hit into one of those bare areas, it was basically like you were penalized for hitting the fairway. The greens were in good shape, except for all the craters from the golfers who didn't bother to fix their ball marks. I probably fixed a couple dozen of these marks during my round. This is not the courses problem. Just a comment about the clientele that were playing ahead of us, as most of the craters were fresh ones. The young lady that served us our beers after our round was the one bright spot of the morning. She was very friendly and cheery. Basically, compared to the course that I usually play, this course is very bad. And the price at my usual course is only slightly more for a more enjoyable round.

Fun course for the "duffer"

I've played this course 3 times in the past 3 months. This past round, the greens were not in as good condition as the previous 2 times, but that is probably due to the winter grass dying off and the bermuda grass hadn't gotten established yet. Fairways were still green and lush. It was a good value for the money.
