Stoatin Brae at Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort
Played On 07/30/2023Great staff, great shape
I’m struggling to think of a time when the staff was as friendly and helpful as the pro shop, starter and halfway house staff. The course was in great shape and it’s a nice layout. Given the price and the reputation, I expected a more interesting and challenging course. With no water and few actual hazards, it was almost a little boring. If you’ve never played links golf, I recommend this as a good example but I wouldn’t put it among the top 10 in the state.
Chemung Hills Golf Club
Played On 09/13/2022Nice layout, tough holes
The front nine is pretty open and can be scored upon. The back nine is much tighter and has lots of chances for big numbers. It's a pretty course, makes good use of the land for the most part. The course is in pretty good shape. It was aerated a few weeks ago and the greens were very slow when I played yesterday. If you make an online tee time, call to confirm before you go. I've played there five times this year. I've twice shown up to be told my tee time was moved back by a half hour or more. Once I arrived 30 minutes before my tee time planning to hit the range but was told I had to go directly to the tee if I wanted to play. Yesterday I had an 18 hole tee time and made the turn to find more than a dozen league players still waiting to tee off on the back nine. Each time the course has blamed GolfNow for giving away unauthorized tee times. Maybe that's the case but if I go back, I'll be confirming before I make the trip.
Eagle Crest Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2022Great shape
A lot of the upper end courses I have played this year have been in rough shape. Not Eagle Crest. Greens were fast and true. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, rough areas were all in great shape. On top of that, it's a great layout. Highly recommend if you've never been.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your feedback is valuable, and we look forward to delivering you excellent service again soon. Eagle Crest Golf Club thanks you!

Unlimited range balls on one of the best practice facilities around just adds to one of the underrated courses in the area. If you’ve not been you should go.

Pierce Lake Golf Course

This is a tough, picturesque, well maintained golf course that would be significantly more expensive if it were closer to metro Detroit. A bargain well worth the drive.
Whitmore Lake Golf Links

I recommend it because it’s good for the cost. I have regularly found this course to be less expensive than others in the area. It’s a nice layout but it’s often in rough shape. The greens run well when they are in good shape, but there are too many ball marks and dried out areas to make the greens run true all the time. There are way too many places in the middle of fairways or rough areas that should be well maintained that are ground under repair. A word of warning about tee selection too. Almost all of the extra yardage for black tees is on holes with forced carries or one par 3 that’s 220 with little room for error. Check the course with a GPS app before you decide.

Huntmore Golf Club
Played On 08/15/2020New carts!
Lots of risk/reward options throughout the course, with doglegs, well placed bunkers and of course water. Greens were a little banged up from ball marks but ran true and fast. Bunkers in great shape. All of this is standard for this course. They added new carts with touch-screen GPS that makes all the difference with this course. Like that they are electric too.
Coyote Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2020Great course in great shape
Best shape I’ve seen Coyote in in years. Lush, greens were running true and quick, tee areas and fairways were all in good shape. Will be back soon.
Beacon Hill Golf Club
Played On 07/27/2020Interesting course
There are a lot of really good golf courses in the area, I think this one gets overlooked sometimes. Beacon Hill has a number of interestingly laid out holes and is usually in pretty good shape. There are elevation changes, water mixed in here and there, very few straight holes and enough tee sets to match most players. This day, the greens were a little choppy and the bunkers were a mess, but aside from that it was in good shape.

Fastest I’ve ever seen the greens here and I was the first player off in the morning. Great course, great staff, and priced accordingly.
Pierce Lake Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2020Worth the trip
It’s a little out of the way from metro Detroit but it’s a course worth visiting, plus it’s a great value. Front nine is more open with elevation changes, back nine is a little tighter and more straight forward. As long as I live here, I’ll be out to Pierce Lake at least once a year.

Course was in great shape. Great layout. Water and elevation changes on several holes. It’s worth the trip.
Woods/Meadows at Mystic Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/28/2020Much improved
This is a great property with a great variety of interesting holes, lots of elevation changes and water, a good mix of hole lengths. This morning was the best shape I’ve seen the course in in 10 years. Greens and fairways were clearly tended to and the bunkers were in decent shape, with some having been redone recently and in great shape.
My one problem with this visit: what’s the purpose of the electronic tethers that have been put on the cart? If it’s not going to tell me distances and show me the layout, I don’t need it. Slowing the cart down the ridiculously slow speeds on minor hills is a pain. And twice I had to turn the cart around the drive it in reverse because the tether said it was in a restricted area while sitting on the cart path. Worse than useless.
Shenandoah Country Club
Played On 06/11/2020A couple surprises
I’ve played here several times before. I ran into two things today I was not expecting. First, it rained last night. This is a course that has never taken water very well. I was surprised to find that it was not cart path only end of the course was not soaked. I don’t know what changed but somehow they have found a way to deal with water better. The other surprise was that two of the holes on the back nine were closed. They have you playing a part three and a par five from the same tea on back to back holes. Not necessarily a bad thing but I would thought there would be some warning before booking. Anyway, a nice track. Some of the fastest greens around. Friendly staff and the pace of play is always pretty good here.
Lakes of Taylor Golf Club

Well maintained. A lot of length. Water on several holes. You’ll play better the second time there as some of the holes are a little tricky. Only thing missing is elevation changes; it’s a pretty flat track.
Fieldstone Golf Club of Auburn Hills
Played On 06/08/2020Forgot how nice it was
It had been a few years since I played here. It’s pricey but worth it. Well maintained. Variety of direction and distance in holes. Some hazards. Some forced carries. A nice test on a very scenic course.
Hilltop Golf Course
Played On 06/07/2020It’s better than not playing golf
It’s a nice property that would be a good course if it were well maintained. But it’s not. The course is in bad shape every time. The worst part though is the pace of play. This round was at 3 hours 15 minutes when we decided to stop after 10 holes. We started 35 minutes late and then we’re waiting on every shot afterward. The course says they are not forcing people to pair up to foursomes due to coronavirus concerns. Very courteous but you have to either space out the tee times or not allow two twosomes to book the same time. I’ll pay a lot more and travel a lot farther than return here again.
Hello, and thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With so many golfers looking to get out, we are working very hard to maintain social distancing while accommodating everyone who visits our course. We are doing everything we can to allow our guests the chance to complete their rounds and finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve, and thank you for playing Hilltop Golf Course. We hope to see you again soon.
Washtenaw Golf Club
Played On 05/23/2020Nice but pricey
Last minute tee time for group of three left me with few options. We’d never played here before but I’d heard good things. A very nice course. Nice length, variety of holes, elevation changes, some water in play. Greens were in great shape and for the amount of rain we’d had recently, the course was in good shape. Very nice, but not sure it was $65-a-round nice.
We're glad you enjoyed your 4-star experience with us!
The Golf Club at Mt. Brighton
Played On 04/23/2019recommended with an asterisk
It's a weird course. It's built on a ski mountain that's built on a man-made (with landfill) hill. The good thing about that: lots of dramatic elevation changes. The bad thing about that: you're surrounded by ski lift equipment. The course has never been in good shape (inconsistent green speeds, bunkers that are filled with rocks, bald spots in the middle of fairways, ) but the unique layout on the front and a very nice series of holes to start the back nine is something you need to experience at least once. Throughout the course are undulating greens that make it a challenge to get even chip shots close to the hole. There are nicer courses in the area, but you should try this one at least once.

Chelsea is quite a hike for us but getting out to this course is always worth the trip.
