Cypress Knoll Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/26/2019Still improving
Since this course was basically constructed through wetlands, you need to be pretty straight off the tee. Otherwise, bring plenty of ammo. Good mix of challenging & fairly easy holes. Course conditions have been upgraded immensely under current ownership (local family), but are still uneven. Staff very friendly & accommodating.

My wife and I have been playing this course semi-regularly for the past 7 or 8 yrs. We've seen it decline from pretty decent to a goat path, and with new local family ownership back to good-to-very-good condition over the past 2 yrs. Some of the cart paths & bridges still need work, but that doesn't change the fact that course conditions have improved so dramatically.
Cost -wise, the course is a real bargain. It's usually not crowded, so pace of play is excellent. The staff are friendly local folks who want to make your experience there a good one.
For those who spray the ball off the tee (like me), bring plenty of ammo. I think it is the most challenging of the public courses in the county.

Have played this course several times over the last few years. The new owners continue to make great strides in improving course conditions. Fairways & greens were good, and they are rebuilding many of the tee boxes. This meant we were hitting off temporary tees most of the time. Which was OK, since we could see that the rebuilt tees were coming along nicely.
The course design isn't my favorite in this area -its cut out of the swamp and is kind of truncated with long stretches to negotiate between some of the holes. That said, it's a good place for a friendly round as course conditions continue to improve.

A good test of golf. Course was in good shape. Greens were in excellent shape. Several ponds and tree-lined fairways mean you're in for a long day if you tend to spray your tee shots. Plays longer than listed yardage (6330), because it's a par 70.. A couple of the par 4's were closer to 500 yards than 400.
The staff seems friendly, affable, and competent. Atmosphere relaxed. Most of the regulars are 9-hole players, so if it is a little slow, it will pick up considerably after the turn. I've played here 3 times, and I really don't have any gripes.

A classic old-time layout, with lots of parallel, tight fairways. Topography is gently rolling with a drive-eating deep grass swale that runs all the way through the course and bisects most of the fairways. Lots of mature trees (I said it was an old course) line those tight fairways, so wayward drives are really punished.
The atmosphere was very friendly, laid-back, and comfortable. A little quirky in a charming way - there is no parking lot at the clubhouse, you park on the street. We plan a return visit soon. Just because it is a 9-hole, don't think it is suitable only for beginners or doddering super-seniors. It comes in at 3100 yds from the back tees, and appears to have as many as 5 sets of tees on some holes.

We've played this course many times in the past. It's rarely crowded and a fair challenge as it's a classic old Donald Ross design, with smallish raised greens on the front nine and strategic bunkering. Historically, the course conditions can vary dramatically, but the last few years it has been consistently good and many improvements have been made. This time was no exception. Fairways, greens, and bunkers were in great shape.
Unfortunately, they were having a tournament of some sort the day of our tee time.
They told us this when we checked in, but indicated the last groups were well ahead of us, and it shouldn't be a problem.... Wrong!.....To make a long and boring story short, we gave up after playing 13 holes and got outa Dodge. Anyway, the course was in excellent ship, and as always, we recommend it.

This course gets heavy play this time of year. Will slow down in a couple of weeks. If you don't mind spending a couple of extra bucks, play early to mid-afternoon before the late-afternoon price break brings out the masses. We (a mixed twosome) did that, and had a smooth round under 4 hours while taking our time and just enjoying the day. Never saw a soul on the back nine ( heaven).
OK, to the nitty-gritty.... ALthough heavily played during snow-bird season, the course is routinely well-maintained, and has that reputation locally......The staff is very friendly and professional. The course has some water one the back nine, but it's not a factor in play. The fairways are generous, and the rough is pretty tame. There are a few short doglegs mixed in with long straightaways. A couple of challenging par 3"s. Sand traps are strategically well located, but not over-abundant. Has tees suitable for every skill level, and women-friendly forward tees....IN short, an enjoyable course you can score well on, but still a fair challenge for the average golfer. The rates tend to be in the mid-range of the other local courses, but the consistently good course maintenance makes it a worthwhile choice

The course was VERY busy the day we played. Even so, the pace of play was good - we (a mixed foursome of average hackers) finished our round of 18 in 4 hours on the nose. Staff was very friendly and good-humored. Course conditions were a tad above average for this time of year. Lots of water, but the fairways are generous, and the rough is mild. Good mix of holes. The forward tees wees were women-friendly, which the gals appreciated. All-in-all, 8 thumbs up from our foursome..

it is disheartening for any golfer, regardless of ability, to see an interesting little course in such poor condition. The layout could be fun and challenging, despite being old-timey short. Most fairways are tight, and the greens are miniscule. It could be a perfect place to take your big-hitting buddies for a little skins game. You could smile as their long draws and high fades disappear into the wetlands on either side, while you smooth a 3-wood down the middle to beat their behinds.
Unfortunately, the front nine so lacks maintenance that it is almost unplayable. After a relatively wet winter, the fairways are dried up and very sparse and the greens are dying. The back nine is better, and from about 13 thru 18 you see what this course could be. The difference is dramatic. I assume their irrigation isn't working on the majority of the course, or they can't afford to water. Makes you wonder if there will be any reasonably priced, daily-fee courses around in a few years.
Cypress Knoll Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/02/2014sliding a little
Played this course a couple of times in previous years. Conditions have certainly slipped downhill. Could be in financial trouble. The course was dried out after one of the wettest winters in several years. How can that be? It's a challenging course (probably too much so), which doesn't generate repeat business from average golfers due to tight fairways and severe punishment for bad shots.. There are better maintained, more playable courses of this type in the area. That said, I would play it again at the discounted prices online.
Another of the many courses in FL that were designed on the belief that $40-$50 dollar rounds were here to stay. If you want to give yourself a test, at the online discounts, I'd say do it, At full price, I'd go somewhere else. I hope they can get their act together - it IS a challenging layout through a great natural site. These types of courses need to adjust to the fact that retirees and people making less than they did 20 years ago just need servicible courses at an affordable price. I hope they can reach a profitable middle ground............

Originally a Donald Ross design - small raised greens, tight bunkers, etc. A nice throwback course. Conditions here can be up & down. Sometimes very good, other times not so much - but generally improved over the last few years.. Rarely crowded, so pace of play is usually good. Staff is friendly, atmosphere laid-back.

friendly staff, consistently solid course maintenance, good food at the grill, and occasionally you can see the resident ospreys pluck a fish from one of the ponds. What's not to like?

Pretty good layout. Decent maintenance. Good pace of play in the PM. A very good value at the discounted price, but at full price there are better courses for the money in the general area.
