NorthStar Golf Club
Played On 07/24/2015Outstanding overall with one big issue
Might be slightly overpriced as there's a ton of good golf in the area, but that's really nitpicking. Extremely well kept, very consistent greens, fairways like pool tables. There's some great golf here, and if you play to your index you've played a great round of golf.
One complaint, and it's a HUGE one - they don't offer yardage books. A few holes are borderline unfair without knowing how to play them. There were spots marked with "260 to the rock" and such, but not enough. For $75 a round, at least give me the option to spend another $5 to be fully prepared.

Probably the nicest public courses in the area, it's just a little overpriced.
Not overly difficult, greens were very slow but very consistent. Course is in very good shape - healthy grass/greens, well mown, no downed trees or debris. Overall nice round.

This is the best public course in the area. It's HARD, but a great track. Lots of elevation changes, some tight driving lanes, and enough trouble to ruin your day if you are off your game.
Not a long course, but you have to use every club in the bag. This course will also make you think and plan your game. Chances to take risks and get rewarded, but will punish you if you miss. The ability to work the ball isn't mandatory, but will set up a few much easier approaches.

Could be a great course, but two issues hold it back:
Course isn't well marked AT ALL, it's very difficult to get an accurate distance, and there are no yardage books available. This is exacerbated by the fact there are a number of holes you can drive yourself into trouble on unless you know the course well - water is reachable off tees on a number of holes that you either can't see or wouldn't think are in range and a number of obstacles aren't readily identifiable from the tee box.
Staff is very underwhelming. Boring, curt, gruff. Never a smile, no eye contact. You feel like you're at a movie theater and they are all just there to get their shifts over with. You have to chase people down to get what you want too often. This place is way out in the middle of nowhere, and I pass 3 quality courses with much better service to play here It's just not worth doing.
Physically, it's a great course. Beautiful, well maintained (yardage markers notwithstanding), lots of different challenges to maneuver. It's not a long course, but it's got teeth and if you are in the wrong spot, you'll pay for it. But there are too many great courses in the area to deal with the dissappointments above.

Super fast greens. Course was in pretty good shape, which given the time of year and weather conditions, that's quite a feat. Great layout and beautiful design.
