Canyon Mesa Country Club
Played On 02/19/2020Nice 9-holer
Played with my two kids who came from back East & hadn't stepped on a golf course for a few months. The course was perfect for them. Fairways were in good shape. Greens were okay (remember it's still winter there). Had to make strategic shots on several holes because the greens were large and very sloped so it was challenging for a par 3. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Weather was perfect. Other golfers were friendly. Ninth hole features a wonderfully scenic vista with the red rocks in the background. Played in two hours flat walking.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 03/04/2019Great course
Ventana Canyon is always in great shape. Surrounded by mountain views. Tough course. The kind you have to play several times to figure out the greens. Pace of play was perfect. Never waited for the group ahead or pushed by the group behind. A little pricey but worth it as a treat for yourself every once in a while.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 01/08/2019Beautiful course with tough greens
One of the most beautiful courses I have ever played. Fairways in excellent shape. Greens in good shape. Jack Nicklaus must be a sadist to have designed these greens because they are so undulating. And the greenskeeper must be related to Jack because pin placement was ridiculously difficult. Other than that, a great golfing experience. The cart guy said you need to play the course at least 20 times to know where to hit the greens. If you haven't done that, just enjoy the beauty of the course and the surroundings. I suggest playing one tee box closer than you normally would.
Arizona National Golf Club
Played On 04/17/2018Nice Comeback!
This course was in bad condition a few years ago and has come back nicely. Mountain scenes from every hole. Short (from the whites) but challenging. A thinking man's course. Greens & fairways are in great condition. I think this is the third nicest course in Tucson behind Dove Mountain & Ventana Canyon, both of which are significantly more money to play. A bargain.
Oakcreek Country Club
Played On 04/14/2018Beautiful course
Oakcreek CC s a perfectly-maintained course with great scenery from most holes. The back 9 was more scenic with prettier homes and more red rock sitings. The course is generally wide and forgiving. The greens were a bit more difficult with undulations and steep slopes. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our pace of play was slow because of the twosome we were paired with. I actually apologized to the twosome behind us after the round but they said it was no big deal & that they had enjoyed their round. I would love to play the course again now that I have played it once. I'm sure my putting would be better. Overall, it was a great golf experience.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 04/08/2018Great course. Tough greens.
This is a beautiful, scenic course that is always in perfect condition. Only complaint is that the greens are undulating and very difficult. Not quite as diabolical as Dove Mountain but tough in their own right. My buddy, who is an 11 handicap, 3-putted multiple times and 4-putted twice as well. (He chipped in from 100 yards on 17 just to avoid putting. ) Other than that, it's a very fair though challenging course and is fun to play because it is so well-manicured. It was about a 4 1/2 hour round on a warm Sunday afternoon. Waited on some holes but overall not bad. Can't complain about an extra 15 minutes on such a beautiful course on a gorgeous day.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 03/06/2018Tough & scenic
Rattler is an extremely difficult course. Not for the faint of heart. The other two courses (Coyote & Roadrunner) are much easier but still challenging. If I could play those two w/o playing Rattler it would be a much better option.
Course is in good shape & pace of play is very reasonable.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 01/30/2018Nice course
Hadn't played this course in a few years but it is still in good shape & enjoyable to play. Got behind a slow foursome so it took 4 1/2 hours but it was a beautiful day so it wasn't such a bad experience. My only problem in the past here was slow play. I believe the course has a lot of outings and resort guests who aren't familiar with the layout & just aren't good golfers on a tough course. Tee boxes & fairways were in great shape. Greens were OK but, surprisingly, not in the best condition. Only complaint was playing off the dead grass that served as rough (a condition seen at other courses in Tucson in an attempt to conserve water). For the price paid on GolfNow, it was a bargain.

The course is back to where it was a few years ago.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 4/7/2013Scenic course with tough greens
This is the most scenic course I have ever played. I liked it better than the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, the other PGA venue that ate my lunch. The undulating greens are extremely difficult and I thought that many of the pin placements were close to ridiculous. The shortest men's tees were 6400 yards. As an older golfer, I would have preferred something around 6,000 as an alternative but the next shortest tees were 5,300. Other than that it was a great experience. Superb condition. Friendly staff. Expensive for Tucson but worth the money. Just don't expect to play to your handicap because of the greens and pin placements.
del Lago Golf Club
Played On 2/28/2013Good course
Course is in good shape. It was a bit slow because of a frost but can't complain about that. Well-maintained. A good challenge with interesting holes. Fairly-priced.
Forty-Niner Country Club
Played On 2/19/2013On the way back
After being mismanaged by the previous owner, the 49er was recently purchased by a local guy and is being restored to the great condition it used to be in. Still has a way to go but the commitment is there. The staff is terrific, everyone from the GM to the pro to the desk staff to the starter. A fun course that will continue to improve. A real feel-good golf story.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 1/22/2013Beautiful course with impossible greens.
Tough course with beautiful vistas. Expensive for Tucson but worth the money given the condition of the tee boxes & fairways. I heard that the recent frost took a bit of a toll on the greens.
Thanks for the 5-stars and great feedback on the course! We truly appreciate you choosing The Lodge at Ventana Canyon and hope to have you back again soon.
