Course Has Really Gone Down Hill

I have played Shenandoah Valley before but it had been a couple of years. The staff was fine. The greens were good, held well, and were mostly smooth. The issues for me were the fairways and the rough. The fairways were very thin. Many places there was little to no grass and very hard. The rough was just the opposite. It was very thick and the height was very inconsistent. There was no intermediate cut at all. You were either on the fairway or in deep rough. Weather here was been great with plenty of rain so the fairway condition kind of mystified me. I was very disappointed with the overall condition. It has deteriorated over the last several years. Also if you play here keep your head on a swivel. A lot of blind tee shots and the fairways are very close. One gentleman got hit in the head while we were there! There are better values in the immediate area.

Nice Place to Play with One Major Flaw

Course conditions were excellent. Fairways are very soft and you get very little roll but they are very consistent. Greens were in excellent shape. They run very true once you figure out the grain! Staff was very nice and we got a great bargen on a Golf Now hot deal for only $12.00 each. Only negative on course conditions were all the bunkers were under repair except on 18. They had a sign at the check in desk that they were under going rehab but no one told us to play them as ground under repair until a maintenance guy told us. We saw many other golfers playing from them so communication was lacking. My one major negative was pace of play. Front nine went well right at 2 hours. The back nine took over 3 hours. We had two groups ahead of us who just diddled around. On one tee the group hit 11 tee shots! We saw a marshal on the second hole and never saw another one. Cart girl said she would let the clubhouse know when a guy in the group behind us complained but it never got any better. Overall a real nice course, nice people, just need to monitor what is going on out there.

Nice course with great variety of holes.

BRS is a nice course. Scenery is A++++. Layout is nice with a nice variety of holes. One funky dogleg par 5. Condition was good for early November. Price is high compared to other area courses unless you can get a Golfnow or other booking for less. The $55-$68 regular price is not competitive. We will go back in the spring when we can catch a deal.

Great Course with a wide variety of holes

Course was in great shape. The staff was super nice and very flexible as one of our players arrived late. Service in the grill was excellent with good food. Really enjoyed the wide variety of hole designs and length. Par 3's ranged from island green to a long down hill beauty to a heart shaped green. Bunkers were well groomed (except for the occasional deer track). Par 5's ranged from solid three shot approaches to a risk/reward reachable birdie chance. Really great value for the money!

Not A Course for the Senior Player

First the positive. Course was in very nice shape. The people were very nice. As a 62 year old senior I found the front nine of the course nearly impossible for me to enjoy even from the senior tees. Every par four seemed to be driver, three wood. Several were in the 385-400 yard range with long carries over waste areas for the second shot. Nearly all the greens were uphill and guarded by bunkers so there was no way to even roll the ball on. The back nine is fairer for the Senior but still difficult. We played midday and bunkers really needed attention, not sure if that was a management problem or inconsiderate golfer problem. I guess the course is ok for the longer hitter but I do not recommend for the senior, especially with the high price tag.
