Shotts Golf Club
Played On 08/15/2023Pleasantly Surprised - a Gem
Can't believe I haven't played this little gem before. Superb condition, friendly Pro, near perfect greens and enough challenges to keep things interesting.
Thoroughly recommend and thanks to the team for being so welcoming !
Pumpherston Golf Club
Played On 10/06/2021Spoiled round
Have played Pumpherston a few times and enjoyed the course - it's a pleasant course and easy walking with no real hills.
I was annoyed this time because half of the greens were thick with sand and with the coring the greens were just about unplayable. Also I had a greenkeeper following me to every hole sitting behind the tee with his tractor left running and banging grass boxes around as I was teeing up.
I appreciate work has to be done but no info relating to the course conditions on Golf Now or the club website. I had already cancelled a round from Wishaw because they were digging up the greens. Golf Now need to introduce a process where these things need to be declared so people can book accordingly. If it's half price and you just fancy a casual knock then you may not mind but a round spoiled here.

Thoroughly enjoyed our round here. Great condition, interesting holes. Well worth the visit and Ill definitely be back. Top marks for the ground staff.
Milngavie Golf Club
Played On 06/07/2021Tip Top
Thoroughly enjoyable round at Milngavie. Full marks to the greenkeeping staff who obviously work very hard to keep this course in amazing shape.
Beautiful scenery, flat tees, watered greens and closely mown fairways. There are no par 5s here but plenty of testing par 4s and some delightful par 3s.
Well worth a visit

Course looking superb in the sunshine. Everything spot on but greens still slow and damaged in places.
Certainly worth the £19 I paid but if those greens could be sorted it would be knockout.
Bathgate Golf Club
Played On 04/21/2021Excellent Value
Really enjoyed my round at Bathgate. Interesting, easy-walking course with quick, true greens and generous fairways.
If you fancy some practice before the round there's a large area to practice irons, chipping areas, putting green and bunkered area - superb.
Friendly pro shop is also very welcoming.
Thanks for looking after us - thoroughly recommend!
Oatridge Golf Course
Played On 04/07/2021Worth a trip
Good fun, great condition versus many others post winter. Solid 9 hole, easy walking and very friendly. Par 4s a little short to keep the low handicapper happy but full marks for making the most of what they have.
Will visit again soon.
Thanks for the hospitality!
Lochview Family Golf Centre
Played On 03/17/2021Not very good but cheap
Very boggy first few holes, the remainder pretty uninteresting. Proper tees not in use, most greens in use but some still on winter. Bunkers poor, some with no sand at all. Proper greens very wooly, slow and inconsistent..
People use the 18th for chipping practise after hours so I had to wait for a guy to pick up 50 balls before playing my shot in. Then he resumed.
If you want to hit a few balls as an alternative to the driving range at a reasoable cost it's fine but keep your expectations low.
Palacerigg Golf Club
Played On 11/25/2020Just about playable
Booked very last minute after another course was closed. Had no record of my booking but managed to squeeze me in after providing Golfnow conf.
Its been very wet and the course was something of a mudbath but still open so one cant complain.
There were two greens using temporary winter greens but the rest were open. Greens were very slow and fluffy. Course is pretty up and down with few surprises.
Its golf when other options were limited and cheap.
Dalmuir Municipal Golf Course
Played On 06/04/2020Great Value
A physically demanding course with some very steep climbs. Course itself was in good condition. Greens are slow but true. Bunkers appear to receive little attention and have no soft sand at all and weeds growing.
Layout is quite interesting with a good mix of challenges. Some short par 4's offering good birdie chances and some very challenging par 3's with severe elevations. No par 5's but a couple of par 4's that you'll be pushed to reach in two.
It's cheap at a tenner for sure so great value but not for the faint-hearted.
Kirkintilloch Golf Club
Played On 06/12/2018Enjoyable Round - well presented
Very nicely presented course that's clearly well looked after. Greens were in good condition and fairways are in fine fettle. There's an interesting range of holes with varying difficulty and length. Staff & pro shop very friendly, good bar and good practice facilities.
This one comes recommended - looking forward to returning. Good value for money.
Niddry Castle Golf Club
Played On 06/09/2018Not for me this one
This is an attractive course in a nice location but just didn't tick the boxes for me. The course is short and lot's of holes involved teeing across or over other fairways. The greens were extremely dry following the usually warm Scottish conditions and were so dry some of the greens were actually bare and grass-less. Needed some water badly.
It's one I wanted to like following the shining reviews and the staff were very friendly, but from a golf perspective not one I'll be looking to play again and probably wouldn't satisfy the low handicappers.
Hayston Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2017Didn't match the reviews
Having read the reviews, we thought we couldn't really go wrong with this course but definitely wouldn't have played the course if we had known the conditions prior to playing. We paid £20 which is a touch more than we have paid recently for much higher standards. The first nine holes had coring on the greens and were very sandy - to the point where putting was really a lottery.
We understand from the locals that there was some work started but couldn't be completed because of the adverse weather ( but we only booked a couple of days ahead so this could have been communicated ). Had this been advised either by teeofftimes or the Pro in the shop, we would have played elsewhere.
The bunkers were not raked and didn't have enough sand in them so maybe they used the sand out of the bunkers for the greens? The layout - there are some nice holes but too many just straight up and down. Not too much variety.
If you are considering this one, I would call in advance to check conditions. Don't think these greens will be very good for a few weeks now but we probably won't return.
Eastwood Golf Club
Played On 08/06/2017Great price, no compromises
This course is the bargain of the year. Always in superb condition, good variety of holes, friendly & accommodating - there's nothing not to like.
Often available at a very good price and outside of peak times you'll play at a pace that suits without being held up.
It's a real find and will play many times....
Well done to the staff that keep it this way !!
Westerwood Hotel Golf Club
Played On 07/12/2017Could be better
I have played this one a few times but I was disappointed that in the middle of July the quality of the greens was still poor and the winter coring was still evident. I think it struggles with drainage but looks like it requires more work. The layout is fine and it's interesting enough but falls short of other choices so probably won't rush back. After golf the hotel is very expensive at £5 a pint and food even less value so no redeeming news there. It could be a real winner with a lot of tlc but some way off just now im afraid.
Helensburgh Golf Club
Played On 07/09/2017Great Find
This is a top notch course for a a great price with an interesting variety of holes - a real bargain that's easy to recommend. What stands out is the speed and quality of the greens.
We played in heavy rain for a good part of the round and the greens were still slick and true, there's some good greenkeeping happening around here..it's extremely well kept.
Off course the staff are very friendly and welcolming and some great scenery to boot..
It's a winner - give it a bash and enjoy !
Hi there,
Thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear you thought the course wasn't up to scratch. The coring was summer work as we endeavour to get on top of the course condition and continue to improve it year on year. I'm sure you will see the benefits of this work as early as next season. Thanks again and hope to see you up at the course again soon.
