Smoke Rise Country Club
Played On 02/17/2017Loved it
The greens are a dream to putt on. Fast and true. The rest of the course is dormant, but playable. Traps are in great shape.
The course is very interesting. Many tight shots, but also forgiving in places.
Glencairn Golf Club - Leithfield
Played On 10/31/2016Great mix of holes
Elevation changes; a nasty burn on one and 9; an Unreachable par 5 and a very reachable par 5; a short 3 and a long 3; a great mix of par 4s, oh and the ruins of an old stone chimney....not to mention menacing bunkers scattered throughout...some of them not so easy to escape with one swing. Pray the wind isn't howling, hit a draw and you will enjoy yourself.
Club at Bond Head - North
Played On 08/22/2015Mind blowing
this course is not for beginners. Don't play here unless you are hitting your driver well. There are several force carries off the tee. Greens are all raised and have severe slope. Greens are fast and hold the line even late in the day. Very nice starter and Marshall. I witnessed an unfortunate incident between a member and a public player...lots of profanity. I don't think the members want us non members on the course?
Riverstone Golf & Country Club - Long
Played On 07/25/2015It's a mini Royal Woodbine
But with better greens and friendlier employees....
The course plays short, with the par 5s all shorter than 500 yards, but well protected by bunkers and water.
It's too bad that all of the par 3s are almost exactly the same yardage - 115 yards.
You need to hit it straight, or you will lose golf balls.
Peninsula Lakes Golf Club - Hillside
Played On 07/15/2015Over rated
It's a nice course. It's better than average, but it's price is not in line with the layout.
The starter truly believes it's a better course than Grand Niagara. This is a joke. I would rank it behind GN, Battlefield, Bridgewater, and Thundering Waters in the Niagara region. I would rather play Royal Niagara for considerably less $$$.
Riverview Golf and Country Club
Played On 07/15/2015Under the radar
Owner was extremely helpful. I was early for my tee time and he went out of his way to get me on the course sooner.
The course itself is fairly straightforward in design. It's not overly interesting save for one or two holes, but the conditions are very good.
I am surprised that I have heard very little about this course, although it seems well known to the locals.
Cambridge Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2015Solid design
Nothing spectacular about the course, just a very nice layout with mature trees and excellent greens - large with more break than you see. Holes 4 and 16 were my favourites.
Smuggler's Glen Golf Course
Played On 07/11/2015Stunning
perfect in almost every way. I cannot think of a flaw. Perhaps a tad too difficult, but then again if played from the correct tee blocks, not too bad.
Inverary Golf Course
Played On 07/11/2015Very enjoyable
Small greens, but very true and great speed. Possibly the best I have played this year.
The course is not easy, the design is nice. Tees and fairways need a bit of TLC, but will not prevent you from enjoying this course
King's Bay Golf and Country Club
Played On 07/04/2015Very nice layout
I happen to like it when a 9 has three of each par, especially when there is variety among the holes of the same par. King's Bay does this to perfection. The conditions are superb, and the scenery of Lake Scugog is fantastic. There are houses along most holes but you really need to stink to hit it in their backyards. Not much of a clubhouse.
Tyandaga Golf Course
Played On 05/13/2015Harder than you would expect
Ok, so here I was thinking it would be east to break 80 at Tyandaga....boy was I wrong. Difficulty lurks at every turn despite playing only 5800 yards from the back tees. Blind shots, greens that do not hold, uneven lies, and opportunities to hit your ball into gorges/forests abound. You must have very good control of your tee shots to score well. Even the par 3s can be tricky. Hit the wrong part of the green and a 3 putt is more likely than par.
Course conditions better than I expected for the rate I paid.
Burlington Springs Golf Club
Played On 04/10/2015Early season warm up
Conditions were better than expected considering the recent rain. Greens were on the slow side, blustery wind made the course play harder than it really is.
There was not another soul on the golf course. I thought it was good value at $28 including cart
RiverEdge Golf Club
Played On 09/20/2014Impressed
We were late for our tee time but the pro shop got us out right away. They were out of power carts so we had to walk the first nine despite having paid for the cart.
Service at the snack bar was the best I've ever experienced. Starters and Marshall's were super friendly.
The golf course is not very long but it's narrow in places making you think twice before grabbing driver. The 7th hole is 415 yard par 5 so that's a bit weak, but the other 8 holes are all nicely designed with mounding and sand and very mature trees everywhere.
The greens were a bit too soft, meaning spike marks were a problem. Evidently there was a tournament in front of me full of people that don't know how to walk in golf shoes. Please folks, don't pivot on the greens. It's common sense isn't it?
Dundee Country Club
Played On 08/31/2014Needs some TLC
Not a bad layout, with 6 par 5 holes that are all reachable in 2. The course's main defences are narrow fairways and small greens.
Conditions were dry and hard. Some tee blocks were in need of levelling and over seeding. Greens were nice and rolled well even late in the afternoon with heavy traffic.
Very good value as a hot deal, but I would hesitate to pay full price here.
Calerin Golf Course
Played On 08/14/2014Please don't play here
Okay I was just kidding I don't want you to play here so I can have the course all to myself what a terrific hidden gem
Innisfil Creek Golf Course
Played On 07/27/2014Great for a tune up round
Nice little course. Positives: will test every club in your bag including the driver. Interesting layout; nice mounding; greens run very true; challenging water hazards; an absolute deal of the year as a hot deal
Negatives: some strange routing of holes creates the occasional dangerous situation; sand traps in below average condition; you will hear the traffic on the 400 for your entire round.
Ballantrae Golf Club
Played On 07/22/2014Ballantrae is good
I'm a west-ender and rarely traver East of the Humber river for golf - but now there's a compelling reason to do that. This course was not even on my radar until i saw it listed as a Hot Deal and had a rating of 4.2 from reviewers. In my opinion, that rating is low. Each hole is a treat. There's nothing spectacular, just a very sound design with strategic bunkering and elevated greens with plenty of slope and some very cool collection areas around the greens. Landing areas are fair, and the course won't punish you if you play from the poper tee blocks.
Puslinch Lake Golf Course
Played On 9/26/2013It's all about the greens
The greens are fantastic. Very fast, and hold the line perfectly. This course is a must play at 50% off, but I wouldn't pay the rack rate, only because there are too many short par 4's and no real hazards to speak of. Each hole is well framed by mature tress, and there are many sidehill and down/uphill lies that made me think of course in upstate New York. many of the approaches to the greens are blind where you can see the flagstick, but won't see the ball land.
I used every club in my bag, and thoroughly enjoyed the course, even if it was on the easy side as far as distance goes, you had to be accurate as some of the fairways are narrow.
I loved holes #9, #15, and #18 (quirky yet likeable)
Century Pines Golf Club
Played On 8/10/2013Beyond my expectations
I have avoided playing here for years because ove never met anyone who has played it and gave it a glowing review. This is an above average course with narrow landing areas off the tee and possibly the best greens i have played this year (and ive played more than 20 courses this year)
Tip - dont start on the back 9. 10, 11, and 12 are birdie holes and you dont want to play them cold.
Royal Niagara Golf Club - Escarpment Course
Played On 7/1/2013What a treat
The Old Canal 9 starts with an interesting choice - will you be playing conservatively or aggressively? I like the question but was glad it was asked on the 10th hole of my round. I wodnt want to start on this hole. The rest of the nine provides some very interesting and visually stunning holes. The 2nd will test your control off the tee while the 4th gives you what seems to be a 100 yard wide fairway to hit only to follow thT with one of the more deceptive approaches to an elevated green which is farther away than the yardage would indicate. The 9 finishes up with 2 rather bland par 4's but the first 7 holes should leave you smiling.
Conditions were superb and pace of play at 3.5 hours for a threesome (for 18 holes) was superb. This isnt my favourite course in Niagara (T Waters) but its very close.
Thank you for your kind post and yes, we look forward to having you back, anytime.
