Greens are in good condition. Fairways are in bad shape and the rough is compacted soil. Had to dodge other players balls on almost every hole due to the narrow fairways and adjacent fairways.
La Cantera Resort - The Palmer Course

Highly recommend this course. The layout and elevation changes make it a challenging and unique play. Great staff. The range at the Palmer course is Irons only. Beverage cart was frequent.

La Loma at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course

If you are just starting out playing golf and have no expectations of what a well maintained golf course is, then this is the course for you. I recommend this course for new players, hacks, drinking with friends. The course is not maintained well, no one enforcing pace of play, hard bunkers, long grass fairways, and okay greens.
They do provide water on most of the holes.
Pro shop staff is friendly.
I wish they took better care of the course as it could be great.

The course is fun and changing with wildlife and marshes for an enjoyable view. The staff could be friendlier, the staff i encountered seemed to not.enjoy thier job and realize they are in the customer service industry. A smile and "how is your day?" Is not that difficult. I do recommend this course.
