Mattaponi Springs Golf Club
Played On 09/05/2016Been better
I've played this course up close to 10 times now in my life and it's always been a premium course. One of those courses you play once or twice a summer because they layout is fun, but challenging in a fair way. Something has happened to their greens other than just burning out. Some of the worse greens I've seen looks wise in a while. They didn't roll as bad as they looked but they were laughable on some holes. The rest of the course is in GREAT shape. I've always thought this course over charged considering where they're located (we got a "deal" at $65) but it for sure wasn't worth the money this time. Still fun to play, like I said greens didn't roll terrible and the rest of the course was in great shape, some of my favorite fairways I've played on all Summer. It's a little late in the year to get the greens back but hopefully they can have it fixed by Spring time because this course is fun.
Old South Golf Links

Course is in very good shape, greens could be better. Tee boxes good, fairways were in great shape, rough and bunkers in good shape. Greens were very slow, rolled well though, just slow. Layout is fun if you can hit a hybrid or 3 wood off the tees. Scenery is really cool on some holes. Staff was great and extremely friendly, added to the good experience we had. There are a lot of houses on the course so if you spray your tee shots watch out.
Royal New Kent Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2016Hot Summer
This is one of my favorite courses around central Virginia, I enjoy the challenge and uniqueness every hole offers. The course overall was in pretty good shape. It was obvious the heat had taken it's toll on parts of the course, but nothing major. A few brown patches in the fairways, but none were bare, still easy to hit off of. A few brown spots on the greens that were also not bare. Putts still rolled well and were at a fair speed. Bunkers were good, tee boxes were good, overall the course was in good shape, just not the great shape it's usually in. Only complaint was the water coolers. It was near 100 and none of the water coolers on the back 9 had any water in them. That's not the first time I've come across this here so make sure you fill up at the turn.

Grew up around the area and have played here probably 50+ times. Tee boxes were alright, fairways were pretty good (best part of the course this day), bunkers were in bad condition as in drainage and amount of sand. Almost every green was bumpy, dried out, and just not fun to putt on. Some were decent. I think they've been hurt by the high heat mixed with afternoon downpours.

The Club At Viniterra
Played On 08/06/2016Prime condition
I've played this course probably close to 15-20 times and this was the best condition I think I've ever seen it in. It usually is in pretty good shape, but it was noticeably better this round. Tee boxes were flush and soft, fairways were full and well maintained, bunkers very well maintained with the appropriate amount of sand, and the greens rolled as well as I've seen from any public course in the area the last few years. Keep up the good work.
csp246,
Thank you for the kind words! Our Superintendent and his staff have worked very hard this year and we are very glad to hear that it is paying off. We hope to see you out at Viniterra again soon!
Sincerely,
Management
Dolphin Head Golf Course
Played On 08/03/2016Awesome experience
I come to Hilton Head every Summer for vacation the last 10 years or so and have never heard of this course. Saw it this year on golfnow.com, went to the actual course website and booked it through there and saved $20. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and we basically had the course to ourselves. Saw a few previous reviews about the greens being slow and laughed at that as soon as I stepped on the putting green. They were fast and rolled PHENOMENAL. I was putting around one night at Harbour Town this week and these greens were comparable in speed and I thought even rolled better. Everything else with the course was great as well. Course isn't overly difficult if you have a reliable 3 wood or hybrid off the tee. Greens are more sloped then they look from the fairways, no crazy drop offs but a lot of slope from back to front. Play accordingly. Great course, can't wait to come back. And an absolute steal for what we paid.
Hi "csp246" Thank you so much for the great review! We are so glad that you enjoyed your round with us today! We only have 3 holes with houses on the entire course are you sure you were playing Old South in South Carolina?
