Kiskiack Golf Club
Played On 06/11/2023Great course
I’ve played here several times, the greens are always true and quick. I really like the layout and enjoy the mix of holes.
Royal New Kent Golf Club
Played On 03/25/2023Awesome layout
Royal New Kent is a fun and tough layout. Even more so today, luckily they let us know at check in they had extra difficult pin positions out for an outing, it would’ve been nicer when I made the reservation. Tough was an understatement, as most were impossible, the greens and course are hard enough without gimmicks. Not sure why anyone would want to have pins where the ball won’t stop near the hole not matter what. While That did take away from the enjoyment. The course overall was awesome, I will play again.
Moccasin Wallow Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2020Interesting/demanding course
Played here today for the first time. I was pretty pleased with the overall condition of the course, the fairways and greens are in good shape and putts rolled true. A couple of tee boxes were in rough shape, but that didn’t cause me any issues. Only complaint would be the rough, especially around the greens have a lot of weeds/mixed grasses making a lot of lies off the fairways a guessing game. Overall, I will play here again, there is a good mix of demanding tee shots with variety of approach shots, and different green complexes. I think I hit every club in my bag during the round.
Virtues Golf Club
Played On 07/29/2018Disappointed drive
I was excited to play a Top 100 course, as they typically outshine their reviews, however this was not the case with The Virtues. First off the pro shop staff wasn’t very friendly, but that’s not a big deal. The range was beat up with hardly any grass to hit from in between the ropes, I thought the course is probably better. The views from the first tee set my expectations high, and then I got to greens. When dropped $70 on a round I expect a level of smoothness from the greens. These greens didn’t reach the level of a $30 muni, I don’t think anyone repaired a pitch mark on the greens this season, every green I felt like I had to dodge land mines and buried elephants. I was truly disappointed in the greens and the fairways, tee boxes and rough didn’t make up for it. When you add to that the lack of water jugs and the beverage cart not showing up until 7 holes into our 2:30 front nine, I was disappointed and parched. Overall, the routing of the course was demanding requiring well placed drives and accurate approach shots. However, the routing could not overcome the poor conditions, I struggle to believe this course is a Top 100 course in the US, don’t waste your trip, play your local muni!
Golf Club at Yankee Trace - Heritage Course
Played On 07/21/2018Good layout missing maintenance
Yankee is a good layout, can play long from the back tees if the fairways are soft. The greens seem to varying a lot from early season to late season. They need to remind people to fix their pitch marks on the greens as there were a lot of blemishes and I healed marks on every green, to the point any putt over 10 feet seemed to be impossible. The last time I played there the greens had not been mowed in several days and were visibly shaggy, combined with the pitch marks you might have week been playing on tempory greens. I enjoy the course but wish it was better maintained.
Heatherwoode Golf Club
Played On 06/17/2018Great City Course
I play Heatherwoode a couple times a month, and would play it even more if I lived closer. The course is always in great shape, the greens roll true and the fairway’s and rough are very consistent. I enjoy the variety of the holes, requiring everything from a 4 iron to Driver off the tee on the par 4s. Water comes into play on most holes requiring you to think your way around the course. The staff is always friendly and they do a great job of spacing out tee times and their on course rangers ensure groups are maintaining the spot on the course. Overall my favorite public course in the Dayton area.
Quicksilver Golf Club
Played On 04/16/2017Easter Sunday
Great layout, played as a single and first one out, so pace of play was great. Numerous elevated and blind tee shots with lots of doglegs. Greens were accepting but rolling true and fast, especially with the 25mph winds. Could see how the layout hosted a Senior Tour event, will likely play again when I come back to town.
Pipestone Golf Club
Played On 07/07/2014Great layout
I've played Pipestone numerous times I enjoy the layout of the course minus a few holes (2 & 18), to much dogleg with way to much extreme slope on both holes. The greens can be very tricky, the greens on 3, 5, & 13 can have pins where you can only get to the pins from on angle and if they are playing very firm good luck hitting chips. Overall I like the course and keep going back.
Stonelick Hills Golf Course
Played On 05/25/2014Excellent maintained public course
Course was in great shape, greens were very receiving a touch on the slow side. For the price if have trouble finding a course is better condition, great layout, good mix of long holes and short holes.
Windy Knoll Golf Club
Played On 04/12/2014First Trip Through Windy Knoll
Really enjoyed the course, greens rolled great for early in the season, no problem getting paired up as a single. Staff was very friendly and wanted to know how I liked the course and what i thought of everything. They get 5 stars for pace of play only because we were the first group out therefore no one in front of us but it didn't seem to be a problem for any of the foursome behind us.
