Water Oak Golf Club
Played On 11/08/2023There are lots of things to love about Water Oak. It's scenic, a little hilly, and in decent condition. The fairways are often tree lined, but while it's clearly better to find the fairway you shouldn't lose too many balls in the trees. Finding your ball in any of the 3(?) the lakes is another matter though.
If you're in the area then this is well worth a visit.
Copsewood Grange Golf Club

This is a lovely 9 hole course, with tightish fairways and raised greens. There are a couple of tees shots where you're looking to either draw or fade it too, so lots to keep you on your toes.
I can only agree with other reviews to say that this is well worth a visit, The greens were excellent, and the tees and fairways didn't let the course down either.
It's not totally clear where the course is once the GPS gets you to the car park, but you have to walk your clubs back towards the road, and the course is opposite just before you get back to the road.
Clayton Golf Club
Played On 06/16/2022Nice 9 Holer
This is a really nice course, but quite confusing if you're playing it for the first time. I spent quite a while just trying to figure out where the next tee was.
The greens are fairways were in a pretty decent condition, with accommodating fairways that generally allowed you to take a driver. There are a couple of raised tees that allowed wonderful views over the course.
I'd certainly come back if I were in the neighbourhood.
Bletchingley Golf Club
Played On 05/27/2022If you're looking for a course that will test your game, has some really scenic holes, an excellent and friendly clubhouse, as well as provide a bit of a workout, then Bletchingley ticks the boxes. It really is a lovely course, but flat it isn't, which is something to consider if you have issues with climbs.
The tees, fairways and greens were all in really great condition when I played it today, although the bunkers don't have a lot of sand in them (probably the one fault I can think of).
It certainly isn't an easy course, and if the bunkers, ponds and trees don't get you, some of the holes are fairly lengthy too. It's certainly worth playing though.
ChampionsGate Golf Club - National
Played On 11/13/2017Nice Course
Played the National, and really enjoyed the experience. The fairways are mostly generous, but there are plenty of bunkers to make sure you don't have it all your own way. The fairways were in the process of being cut after reseeding, and a number of the tees were a bit fluffy. The greens however were exceptionally good.
Lovely clubhouse and staff were all very friendly.
Addington Court Golf Centre - Falconwood Course
Played On 10/03/2017Scenic Courses
This wasn't a great start. I'd bought a 7am tee time online, their website said the course was open from 7am, and when I got there I found out that they don't open until 7.30. The guy in the shop apologised, which was appreciated, but you kinda think that someone needs to be making sure the details don't get forgotten.
There are two 18 holes courses here, the Falconwood and the Championship, and neither are especially long (both are under 5300 yds from the yellows). There are a few climbs though, so consider a buggie if you aren't a fan of hills.
The Falconwood is the cheaper course, and it certainly feels like that when you play both on the same day. The fairways are wide, the greens are small, but the condition is far better than a lot of reviews I'd seen had suggested. The bunkers aren't great and some are GUR, but you have the option to just not go in them
The Championship course just feels a lot nicer. The fairways are still pretty generous, and the greens are both larger and in very good condition. The bunkers looked a lot better too, although I didn't get to experience any of them first hand (yay!).
Both courses are very scenic, and both have great layouts and some pretty holes. If I lived closer then I'd certainly be playing here more often.
Glossop & District Golf Club
Played On 09/20/2017Lovely Course
This isn't the longest course in the world, but it is set in a stunning location and a number of the holes will definately test you. It's basically a 9 hole course, except with 11 greens (the 5th/14th and 6th/15th are played to different greens) and a number of different tees. The tricky bit the first time you play here is knowing where you're actually going on some of the holes, especially when playing the 5th/14th and 6th/15th. The guy in the pro shop kindly pointed out to me where to go, although maybe he should have told my clubs!
This isn't an easy walking course, so be prepared for a number of climbs if you're playing all 18. It is certinly worth the effort though, as the views from the top of the course are stunning.
Would I recommend playing here? If I lived nearby I think I'd want to be a member, that's how much I recommend it.
Sonning Golf Club
Played On 05/11/2017Lovely Course
All I can say to anyone thinking about playing Sonning is to take the opportunity, especially if you can get a good deal on one of the tee time sites. There are 18 lovely holes of parkland golf to be enjoyed, with tees, fairways and greens that were all in very good condition. The fairways are generally pretty wide, with a lot of the holes/greens largely protected by a number of bunkers and subtle breaks.
I played it on a day when the ground was dry, which certainly helped reach a number of the longer par 4's. There are four par 4's longer than 435 yards from the yellows. To balance that there are only a couple of par 5's, neither of which is especially long.
The welcome at the proshop was very friendly, as were the staff working behind the bar.
