After playing this course, I now wonder why I took so long to play it. Aesthetically, I love the overseeded fairway, tees and greens against the brown dormant Bermuda grass. The greens were a fine speed for January vacation golf. There is just enough undulations in the greens to keep your attention. The Nicklaus group did a fine job on the design. Each of the holes were different and provided a variety of shots into the greens. I definitely will keep this course on the rotation on my future visits to HHI.

The layout is great. No hole is the same. Plenty of water to keep your attention, and the greens…well I played the Cupp and Hills course back to back days and never did figure out the subtle breaks in the greens. The greens are the most challenging part of the course. They certainly defend the course admirably. Course conditions were just fine for January golf. If you are up to having your game challenged, go and play either of the Plantation Hall courses. You won’t be disappointed.. I will return to try my hand at both courses again..someday.

Hope your golf balls aren’t hydrophobic. There is a lot of water with greens tucked in and around the ponds. Greens were really fast with minute undulations that were tough to read. Very nice layout and great conditions of the course for January golf! Go play it!

Layout is great with wonderful vies of the bay/sound. Greens were a tad slow but what you would expect for January golf. Staff I encountered were all very nice.

Oyster Reef did not disappoint on my return trip after playing it a few years ago. Greens were in nice shape for January golf. The course is nicely layed out with a beautiful signature hole facing the water. If you are trying to decide whether to play this course, go and play it, you will be happy you did.

Greens were fine. Fairly fast but not crazy fast. Fairways were in decent shape. Rough was rough. Cart paths need quite a bit repair. Catch this course on a deal and it’s worth your time.

Staff was friendly but barely existed. Course is well designed. The maintenance was average at best. Greens ran very slow. But a mid day start and played in less than 3 hours.

Course is a very interesting layout. The course could use some, maybe a lot of maintenance love. Greens were in great shape and very fast and it is critical to be below the hole. Course had too many bare spots on tees and especially the fairways. Still with the attractive pricing it is worth the round. Pace was really slow today tho.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this Donald Ross gem. The layout is now one of my favorites. With the expected improvements coming to Southern Pines this is certainly a bucket list course in the Sand Hills. The greens can be a bit challenging if you are not below the hole. The fairways were in nice shape for November golf .

This course is a gem in the circle of Pinehurst courses. The course is playable but sneaky long at 6000 yards from the whites. Many uphill shots to the greens requiring 2 extra clubs most of the time. Greens were in nice condition but albeit a tad slow. When in Pinehurst take the time to experience Beacon Ridge.

Oyster Reef was a delight. Greens were excellent and fast. Well manicured. Would definitely play again and again. You won't be disappointed if you choose to play here. Go for it!
