Arizona Grand Resort
Played On 10/04/2022Very nice course
The course was in phenomenal shape. Greens were true and good speed. The rough was a little bit shaggy, in anticipation of overseeding, but not terrible. The fairways and tee boxes were excellent. One mark against the course was that the bag drop was unmanned, prompting a very long walk from the parking lot to the pro shop with my bag. (Parking was also scarce as most of the spots were taken up by resort guests.) In all, I would happily play this course again. It was challenging and interesting. The course also provided a handy guide, which helped as a first time player.
Dobson Ranch Golf Course
Played On 11/29/2021Fantastic greens
Overall, the course was very good. Fairways were a bit soggy from overseeding, but only in some of the lower lying areas. Mud was never a concern in the fairways, which were in surprisingly good shape for having been overseeded. The major plus was the greens. They were in fantastic shape. Quick, but not too fast and very smooth. Staff was helpful and courteous, beverage cart made plenty of stops, and there are plenty of practice areas available. The course is also flat enough to walk. One minor downside was the mats only range. All in all, I'd definitely play here again.
Thanks for the review! we hope to see you again soon.
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 11/28/2021Decent enough course, but pretty tight. The course goes through lots of housing, so you feel you're in someone's backyard a lot of the time. Lots of long rides from green to the next tee. Pace of play was very fast, as I played alone and didn't see anyone until 13. Course conditions were pretty good. Greens were a little beat up, but not terribly so. Locals were saying that golf has gotten very expensive during the winter here, especially after Covid. I probably paid twice what I'd expect to pay at a comparable course anywhere else during the summer. I'd recommend the course at the lower price, but not for $94.
Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 10/19/2020Great round, with one small complaint.
This is my second time playing a JW Marriott course. I played the Valley Course around this same time in 2019. The course was in excellent shape. The greens were quick, but not crazy fast, while still being receptive to shots. Fairways were terrific. GPS was accurate. Practice tee and green were adequate, with range balls included in the price. My one complaint was the lack of water on the course. On a 100 degree day, the beverage cart didn't come around until 8 tee, and then not at all on the back. Also, the water fountains on the back were out of order. I was a bit surprised to not get a few complimentary waters in the cooler on the cart, like I did at a lower priced course the week before in Las Vegas. I would definitely play the course again, but I'd be sure to stock up on water beforehand. A minor quibble, however, for what was a really great round on a gorgeous course, especially the waterfall at 2 green and the entire 17th hole. Pace of play was moderate (4 hours for the round), with just a few waits on some shots. Hard to judge the other off course amenities, as I was only there for the golf, and it appeared that some restaurants were closed due to the pandemic.
Grey Rock Golf Club
Played On 12/14/2017Excellent Shape!
I played the course during December, so I can't really comment on the full extent of course amenities or how the course will be during the hot Texas summer. That being said, the course was in amazing shape, especially for that time of year. The greens rolled VERY true, some were even rather quick, when most other courses are letting their greens grow shaggy. Bunkers, usually not in the best shape during the fall and winter, were excellent and were kept well groomed. Fairways were nice and tight. Some of the tee boxes were overly top dressed, but this is a minor complaint.
Staff, while minimal owing to the time of year, were all friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. I played one round at 2pm, so I only paid $44 for that round, the morning round a few days later was $64 - both rather high for that time of year, when the course was virtually empty.
If I have one complaint it's the lack of clear markings on the course. There are clear markers on all the tee boxes giving hole lengths (rather than a generic sign), so that was a plus. However, fairway markers were often hard to find, and sprinkler heads weren't readily available, so finding a true distance on approach shots, especially from off the fairway, was difficult.
That all being said, I would play the course again, and would really like to play it during the summer, when it would be in even better shape.
Eagle Landing Golf Club
Played On 05/15/2017Excellent experience
The course was in outstanding shape, an excellent value. Every aspect of the course - tees, fairways, greens and bunkers - was terrific. My lone complaint is that on many holes it's very hard to get a good yardage reading. I don't need a GPS, but stakes would be helpful as not all of the sprinkler heads had yard ages and the yardage plates (100, 150, 200) are hard to see at times.
As for off course amenities, the putting green was spacious, even with an outing getting ready to go out. The 19th hole was nice and the food was good.
Overall, it was an outstanding course, especially for the money.
Thank you for such great praise! I do agree sometimes this course can be tough to judge distances because of the trees. Thanks for the feedback!
mcmenapace, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Arizona Grand Resort.
