Randolph Oaks Golf Course
Played On 01/05/2019Great Course, Slow Pace, Closes Early
Loved the driving range and practice area. Started about 15 minutes late, which sometime happens. Loved the course layout. Excellent greens. TERRIBLE pace of play: finished 9 holes in 2 hours 45 minutes and 18 holes in 5 HOURS AND 30 MINUTES!!!--which is ONE reason why I choose the OPTION "Would You Recommend This Course To A Friend? No." Maybe if you play during the week, pace of play would be better. This was my first time playing this course. Though I walked, a couple of guys in our group rode a cart (included in Hot Deal). While we were playing the 17th hole, a staff member drove up on a cart and told those guys that they had to return the cart to the pro shop RIGHT NOW, their round in the middle of the 17th fairway!!! If I had ridden a cart, I would have been really mad. What's worse: when I arrived back at the pro shop after the round, there were still two trains of cart waiting for staff to drive them back to the cart barn!!! So, those guys in our group could have finished their round and still had the cart back to the pro shop on time to join the train!!! This is the SECOND reason why I choose the OPTION "Would You Recommend This Course To A Friend? No." Finally, I was told that the snack bar and bar close at 2pm. That means, with the slow pace of play, you can't even tee off at 11:30am, play only 9 holes, and then make it back to the snack bar before it closes.--which is the THIRD reason why I choose the OPTION "Would You Recommend This Course To A Friend? No." I hope this review helps you know what to expect if you book a Hot Deal at this course.
Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort
Played On 10/10/2018Beautiful course, but don't play here after a rain - bring your own food
Unfortunately, it rained the day before we played here, so we were not allowed to play the back-9, but had to play the front-9 twice, which was very disappointing. So, I would recommend this course to a friend AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T RAIN THE DAY BEFORE my friend was scheduled to play. I myself won't be going back unless the forecast is for no rain 3 days in advance of my intended round and on the day of my intended round. If I had paid full-price for the round, I would have been really mad, but I bought my round on a golfnow.com "hot deal," so I was only "very disappointed."
The course is in a beautiful setting and well-maintained. The staff is very friendly, but the temporary food truck chef had stepped out to go get supplies, so I had to skip lunch.
Finally, instead of pairing-up singles and twosomes, the course apparently just starts golfers out whenever they want. But they paired our three-some up with a fourth, and then asked us to let two smaller groups behind us play-through! This made no sense to me. Why not hold the single a few minutes and let him play with one of the smaller groups behind us?

Played On 10/25/2017Greens sanded and watered during round
I have played courses undergoing maintenance before. I expect to encounter that from time to time. Aerating and other maintenance must be done. But the greens at this course on the day I played it were terrible; not even worth the approximate $27 Golfnow Hot Deal I bought. Had I known the conditions, I would definitely have booked elsewhere. The greens had rows of sand on them about 3 feet apart. The sand was not evenly distributed; it was in rows. Every green was like that. The ball rolled unevenly. To make matters worse, the greens were being watered DURING THE ROUND. So, not only were the greens sandy, they were wet as well. I've been playing golf for 34 years and never encountered such poor conditions. I think a course should be temporarily closed under such conditions. If I ever go back to Silverhorn Golf Club, it will be a long time away. Also, I will try try to avoid Hot Deals in the future because the last two courses I have bought them at were under such maintenance/repair that they were not worth the Hot Deal price.
Landa Park Municipal Golf Course
Played On 05/27/2017Overall enjoyable round
Beautiful setting on the river and abundant "pet" deer, mostly laying in the shade on this hot afternoon. Greens and bunkers are in good shape, but fairways and rough are sparse in areas, even in Spring time. Super helpful, friendly staff. Worth the drive from San Antonio.

Played On 04/08/2017More difficult than your average course
It had been about a year since I had played this course. I had forgotten how narrow the fairways are compared to the average municipal courses, which are what I usually play. Course conditions were its best aspect, particularly during the early Spring transition period. Greens were remarkably consistent and bunkers well-groomed. There are some unusual hole designs, like the par-5 10th that doglegs left in the last 20% of the hole; and the par-4 15th whose fairway is divided by multiple dry creek beds that leave you no where to land the ball short of the green. But I loved all the par-3s and the "driveable" par-4 14th. The course has several blind shots and the golf carts do not have GPS and the pro shop offers no yardage book, so play the course with someone whose played it before or be sure your golf yardage app is working well. Beautiful wildlife (deer) on course.
