Huge Beautiful Menacing Trees & Great Greens

Got a great price on Golfnow.com via a Hot Deal and paid only $19 for 18 holes including the cart. Played this course last year and it was in horrible shape, so my expectations were not very high. I was pleasantly surprised to see this course back in the excellent condition when I played it this year. We were a twosome that started st 7 am on a Saturday morning and finished 18 holes in less than 3 hours. The layout is great and consists of both long and short par fours. The par threes are long with 3 of them being at or over 200 yards from the back tees. One par fives can play 638 yards should you play when the tees are all the way back. Great views of the lake. The trees are huge, beautiful, and play into the strategy of the layout as many of them can block your shots to the green. The greens were true and pure with moderate undulations.

I enjoyed the course very much. Especially for $19.

Great Greens & Tight Fairways

Played this round on a very windy morning early in May. Was the first one out, and finished my 18 holes in a little over 2 hours. The greens were very nice and rolled incredibly true. The only problem with the greens was that people were not fixing their ball marks. I fixed about 5 or 6 on EVERY green and I could have fixed 12 to 15. The fairways are tree lined and some are very tight. They only take cash or checks at the pro shop ... who writes checks anymore ? And if you do write checks, do you really carry your checkbook around with you ? This tells me that the course is having financial difficulties ... But that is just a guess. Paid $26 CASH, so the price was sure worth it

Perfect Greens Over Priced Everything

This was my second time playing the North Course at The Boulders. It was a windy day with some overcast which made it a bit chilly. Golf staff was moderately friendly but very accommodating. Got a great price from Golf Now at $119. Bought two bloody marys and a soda in the bar before our round which came to $36. The bloody marys were poured from a store boughten pre mixed bottle. Two sandwiches and two sodas on from the beverage cart was $42. Nonetheless the greens are the best that I have played in AZ .... I have played 35 different courses in the last 6 years, but these are clearly the best. They are also not for everyone as they are super fast. The sign before we started said that they were running an 11 on the stimp meter. The twosome we got matched up with picked up on several holes because they just couldn't get it in the hole. I find myself an average putter and 3 jacked 8 greens and 4 jacked another. It would take a couple of rounds to get a real good feel for the speed. They we're very true and held approach shots like a glove. The fairways werer pristine and the rough was quite manageable to play from.

Good Value - Wide Fairways - Fair Conditions

Played this course on a sunny, windy day in late April 2014. Fairways are more than generous with lots of room to spray it in both directions. We played early in the morning as the course and glad we did, because by noon the place was jam packed. They were so busy around the noon hour that they ran out of carts and were asking us to hurry up and take our clubs off so they could get our cart to someone who was waiting.

The price was great ($35) and offered us a replay at $15.

Great Course With Great Greens

You get the full Troon treatment at this place. The staff was super friendly. The practice facilities were outstanding. The greens were firm but some of most truest greens in the valley. Got told about the 109 bunkers four times prior to teeing off. I only hit 7 of them and felt thrilled. A lot or risk/reward holes which I find very fun. Clubhouse has great beer selections and being from WI, that was greatly appreciated. Did not eat there, but the food looked outstanding as it was being served around us

Undulating Greens Fun Track

Was wanting to play this place again really bad for a long time after first playing it in 1998. It was everything I remembered from the first time. Big elevation changes, undulating greens, and wonderful views are all part of the experience. Got a great price on golf now of $79. Had a lot of putts that had HUGE breaks to them. Being on the proper area of the green after hitting approach shots will benefit you greatly

Awesome greens ... Not so awesome staff

We had a mid morning Saturday tee time and expected the course to play slow, so a 5 hour round wasn't anything unexpected. Walked in to check in and the guy behind the counter was on the phone with what appeared to be a buddy and was speaking golf lingo laced with f-bombs ... He continued to do this for about 3 minutes as he talked to the person on the phone whilst looking right at us. Checked us in and told us to go to the fist tee where there was no starter and some confusion on who was up next. The front nine played so slow that the cart/drink girl saw us FOUR times in 9 holes. We later found out that it had something to do with that she didn't know the course had a whole other set of 9 holes, thus not seeing her once on the back nine. There were 2 instances where she drove the cart right behind us while someone was in mid swing and yelled "HELLOOOOOO" and another time while one person in our group was about to putt ...she actually came up to the green while we we putting !!! Speaking of putting, the greens are some of the best I have ever played on in Wisconsin. They held approach shots, rolled true, and were extremely well kept. All the bunkers had A TON of rocks in them and it looked like they got the sand from the beach

We still had a good time and would come back in a pinch ... Just cant be good when the place offers a $20 raffle for a full years membership.

Great Layout ... Need all 14 clubs

This is a course that I play all 36 holes once a year, on the second Saturday of May ...For the past 15 years with 30 college buddies in a Ryder Cup format .... The staff at this course has gone well out of their way to make our annual outing of college buddies one of the best events of the year. One year, the course was shut down to the public (the only year it has rained on our event) and the staff took the 6 least wet holes and let us play them 3 times so we could play 18 and still get our event in

This course, The Pines, has a great layout and consists of all varieties of holes ... Doglegs left and right .. Short ,downhill, long, and uphill par threes ... Risk /Reward holes

On this day, I hit every iron in the bag, 3-SW, into the greens

Conditions can vary depending on the amount of rain. lf there has been rain a day or two before you play, be prepared to bring some bug spray.

This is the easier of the two 18 holes at this course. You are able to spray it with the driver on some holes on this course, The Pines.

The other course, The Oaks, has much much more trouble and a lot of water ..lt is more like target golf.

This course is one of the best in Arizona

We played the course on April 8th on our last day of a five day golf trip. We were going to play either Eagle Mountain or this course to end our trip with and I am so glad we chose to play here.

When we arrived, the staff was super friendly and helped us to do everything except hit our shots and drink our bloody marys ....

The starter gave us two of the best tips of the day, which were (1) to make sure we putted on the putting green, because it would be exactly like the greens on the course and (2) that 16 of the 18 greens would break towards the mountains in the distance

The course was in pristine conditions with the fairways mowed perfectly with very few brown areas .... which must be a really tough thing to do considering that almost all of the fairways are riddled with undulation leaving you almost no chance of having a flat lie even if you stipe it right down the middle. There is suffiicient landing areas, but even though I drove the ball straight, I never seemed to be in any of them

The greens are second best to only The Boulders in Carfree, AZ
They are pure, neatly trimmed, and rolled to near perfection. Our only complaint about the greens was that they weren't holding our balls all that well, generally forcing us to club down in anticipation of a great deal of forward roll.

The layout was outstanding, forcing you to hit almost very club in your bag more than once, which is really unusual

On the day we played the wind was gusting up to 50 MPH. In some parts of AZ there were gusts of up to 65 MPH. The wind was so WICKED that semis were blowing over and they had to shut down Interstate 10 for quite some time. This was completely out of the ordinary

I felt the need to mention this because the first nine holes play away from the club house in the same general direction. Then the last nine holes play directly back in to the clubhouse in the exact opposite direction. In "normal" playing conditions the wind is at your back at 5 to 10 MPH on the front side and in your face the same amount on the backside ... Thus making the last six holes (because 10,11, and 12 aren't as hard as the last six) dubbed "THE WICKED SIX"

These holes are some of the best and toughest holes in Arizona. All have unique features that forces you to bring all you've got and then some. Adding another 45 MPH wind into our faces on these holes was astutely devastating. I generally drive the ball about 265 or 270 and was striking the ball extremely well on this day, but could only muster about 200 with the driver. Neither myself nor my partner could get home on any of those holes in regulation. I also forgot to mention that the starter told us that the course was set up with the hardest pin placements available and that they only have this setup once every three weeks where the cups were sometimes cut within three paces of the rough

Nonetheless, these holes are beautiful, challenging, and indeed WICKED

When we finished the staff was profusely apologetic for the wind and could not believe the weather we played in. Some were saying it was the worst they ever saw it.

Then we had cocktails and lunch on the patio. Cocktails were poured well with a good selection of high end liquor to choose from. The food was outstanding and had a great local flavor to it

This is a MUST play !!!!

Unbelievable Views On A Tough Course

My friend and I come to Scottsdale once a year in April for five-day golf trip. We always find the time to drive to Sedona and play 18 holes of golf and enjoy the beauty. This trip we were fortunate enough to play this course called seven canyons, one we have never heard of before

All of the reviews so you'll read about this course will be the same and they are all very accurate. Two things most mentioned in these reviews, which are unparalleled to any other course in Arizona are (1) the scenery and (2) how hard the course plays

(1) The scenery was stunning on every single hole. Every tee box looks like a postcard
(2) The course is unbelievably tough and plays harder than you might anticipate. Hitting the driver is not necessary but certainly helps on a lot of holes

The one thing that isn't mentioned that needs to be is that it's a private course turned public/private. The staff seems to be a tad bit on the aloof side including not being able to sell you anything unless you have a members name ..... so pack your bag with beverages and energy bars and such. When we checked in with the clubhouse the response we back got back from the him was "OH, you're the online tee time" in a real snooty tone. Almost to say, "you guys are lucky we're letting you play OUR course so enjoy it because you probably won't be able to come back once our finances are straightened out an we can go back to private only

Even with the rude staff, this is s MUST play ... While you still have the chance play it !!!

PINES - Busy, average, resort like course

My buddy, that I make our annual 5 day golf trip to Scottsdale with, owns a condo within the boundaries of the McCormick Ranch complex, which as Wiki says is "recognized as one of the largest planned residential communities in Arizona."

That being said, there are a lot of residents and visitors that like to utilize this golf complex as their practice facility. When we arrived to play our 4:00 tee time on a Thursday afternoon, both courses and the range were jam packed from one end to the other. We had to sit on a bench and wait for a range slot for about 20 minutes. The range was full of some good players who were trying to work on their game, but also included a guy in jeans and a tank top who was announcing to everyone how he barley made it home the night before because he was so drunk he had no idea where he was ... and several couples who obviously had never played before, as balls were sailing sideways across the front of where people were hitting.

The course was in average condition, with areas in the shade being made up of 50/50 grass/weeds. We had to result to moving our balls from the bare areas to grass in the rough

Full rate was almost $80, but we got on for a $31 twilight special, which even a terrible course would be a great deal. This course is far better than terrible, but still needs work on the playing conditions. If you are planning on paying anything more than $50 for this course, you should look elsewhere, because for the same amount of money, you can play 3 times the couse if you are willing to travel up to 20 minutes. There are multiple courses that will fulfill that requirement
