Kelly Plantation Golf Club
Played On 12/28/2013crisp morning with rain
This was my first time visiting Kelly Plantation Golf Course. The day started off with early morning rain showers, my tee time was scheduled for 11:50am but since the rain ceased by 10:00am and it was supposed to pick back up again by mid-afternoon, I took a chance a got there early, well I was one of only three groups playing as I arrived….so needless to say I headed out to play by 10:30 in the morning which turned out well to get the full round in before the rain came back. I’m not the best adverse weather golfer but manage to stay only two over after five holes, their signature #4 hole had a much larger fairway then it appeared online, though I did tanked my tee shot into the palm trees on the ocean side ( I’m a lefty ) but manage to place a lovely penalty shot on the far left side of the green ( thought for sure it was in the bunker 20 feet below, for sure not a good place to be) so to the green I went an preceded to view a 40 foot putt for par, I was betting people were watching from the tower placing beats just before (10-1 he won’t make it !! I dropped it for PAR !! ). Nevertheless the course had larger fairways than anticipated and the #2 tee box only came in at 6521 yards for the Plantation Tees. They did have the Couples (#1) tees at 7099, hindsight I would have played those, I did select the same club as Freddie 90% of the time ( as shown on their GPS system ) and I was playing one closer tee box, boy the pro’s really pound those balls. Oh ya they did have one nice treat one the course “free chilled apples” I thought that was pretty cool, literally.
Ps, I did have a wonderful time inside the bar area, and they served me up a fabulous ½ pound burger, even kept half of it warm inside till the turn!
Twin Birch Golf Club
Played On 9/4/2013didn't expect much, but it gave MUCH more.
This course sits just a few minutes East of Downtown Kalkaska, the area is know for its rolling hills and beautiful vista's. The course itself is relatively flat, easily walkable if desired with few well placed bunkers but nothing to worry about. Also it has a portion of the Boardman river than runs through a course on a couple holes, guess i should have laid up, wouldn't have lost a ball there! actually I lost four balls total and still managed to scored a 45 front and 47 back, thats where I lost three of them. though to my desire, I did play the blue tees. Each hole is nicely sucluded which is a plus, and the greens played true anf fast. Anyone playing this course will enjoy the time spent and for the cost thru golf now, it was a STEAL !! I'm still looking over my shoulder, lol
Fazio Premier at Treetops Resort
Played On 7/5/2013Premier Course - Treetops
my buddy wanted to play Treetops this weekend and I'm glad we did. We were able to leave before tee time by 15-20 minutes ... this keep us ahead of the twilighters... we had a 4:00 pm tee time scheduled. The course was in magnificent condition and the greens played fast. The only issue we had was there was no food at the turn.... they closed the grill at 5:00 pm, thought that was odd though it wasn't a full house. I did have the cart girl hooked me up with a bloddy mary full of vegi's, took care of the rumble in my stomach for the time being. We will be back again, though, maybe we'll pick up some food before we get there next time. Call ahead to be safe.
