Recommended. Although this course hosted a 2019 US Open Qualifier, it doesn't feel unplayable for those of us with higher handicaps. The tees range from 5,800 to 7,000 yard so you've got the opportunity to shorten or lengthen the round as you need. There's not much, if any, water on the front 9 but you'll see several holes with it present on the back. Greens were challenging for all levels in our group, and no complaints about course conditions or scenery - all above par. Walking score I'm not sure of (hole 10 and 18 are huge up/downhill) but definitely would like another crack at this course.

And speaking of another visit, I'd say that the Lyman Orchards property could even be a potential stay & play type of location. With two 18 hole courses, one 9 hole course, a practice area and (I think) a couple dining options on site, this could be a good place to hide out with some buddies and the clubs for a weekend.

Lastly - High praise for having beverage carts out on course - we had the opportunity to buy refreshments at 3 or 4 different points in the round. Always amazes me that more courses don't make drinks & snacks more available, so nice work! No price is too high for a Pepsi or Coors when you're thirsty. Staff in the carts were cool, too.

Great Nine

It's inconceivable that this course is getting <3 stars (as of April 2020) but maybe that's good - then it'll stay quiet for those of us who enjoy 9 hole walks by the water around those incredible houses for a fun and easygoing round. Much like Sweeten's Cove (in Tennessee), there's no clubhouse, bathrooms or refreshments but the experience is fun for all handicaps. Fairways are pretty wide/open and from what I recall there's only one forced carry from the tee box. A bit remote? Sure, maybe, but enjoy it when you get there.

Variety is the spice of life

Really enjoyable place to play for all golfers. In our group, we had two beginners, a lower handicap as well as myself (higher handicap) and we all had our own challenges & victories during the round.

Aside from the well kept grounds, there's a lot of variety in the hole designs so you don't feel like you're playing the same one over & over. The first few holes are hidden away and mix up left or right dog legs in the woods. Later on you'll see more typical municipal layouts (parallel holes) but with more open, forgiving fairways. Keep your tee shots controlled early on and let loose as you hit the mid/later. Water does show up here & there.

Mid-round there are 3 (three!) opportunities to grab a beverage and something to eat, which is so rare it's worth a star on its own. End of the round facilities look ample enough to handle a crew who needs food & drinks at either the indoor or outdoor seating areas. Staff was also super nice.

Very walkable, too. Get out there!

Totally Worth the Drive from Nashville

One of the top courses in the state without a doubt. Lots of variety in the hole layouts, greens & fairways make good use of the hilly plot of land and all elements of this track are kept in well above average condition.

Tee boxes were in good shape on all holes and the fairways, which had varying grade, often allow you to attack the green from different routes. Even our group of higher handicapped players kept their tee shots in "the short stuff" and didn't find the fairways to be as narrow as the description says they are.

Greens are always entertaining because you can be within six feet of the hole and easily three putt because of the breaks. A couple of the greens are massive so you get a great roller coaster ride going from one end to the other.

Bunkers, which I unfortunately visited several times, have very well kept sand. Even in the dead of winter after several inches of rain they were fluffy enough to splash the ball out of. Sadly can't say the same for many higher priced TN courses in the dead of summer!

Rated the Off-Course amenities as "Average" since the dining area is outdated. There are a number of nice TVs on the wall, but the chairs are super uncomfortable and the rest of the room (and the outdoor sitting area) could use an update. Have seen much worse though, and the staff in that room are all real nice so I have gladly enjoyed cold beverages on the premises. Pro shop is in good shape.

18 and Eat

This is the best place to go for a full day, total package experience in the Nashville area. The course itself has challenging holes with a fair amount of up & downhill holes yet has enough tee boxes to make it playable for everyone. Recent ownership changes have helped course conditions immensely - many sand traps in poor condition are being abandoned and the greens are improving all the time.
For those of you who want a great meal after or before your round, "Rumors" is an excellent spot for dinner, lunch and/or especially brunch. Cocktails are well made and the dining room has white table cloths but the service is friendly and down to earth. Brunch has some fantastic grits, burgers and egg dishes plus a few solid cocktails to help erase or enhance memories of your round.
Drink responsibly in the clubhouse and no laying up on the course

Fantastic Value for Any Skill Level

It'll be hard to beat the value of this course - you can play for $9 and finish (at least on a Friday) in 1.5 hours. The fairways and tee boxes are in good shape, every couple of holes there's water to drink and the course has just enough trees to keep you honest. Every walk of life seemed to be enjoying the course - 4 somes of seasoned veterans (men & women), novices as well as a local high school team. No water hazards on any of the holes.
The club house is about a year old as of Summer 2015. Aside from the pro shop, there's not much indoor space for a post round beer however you'll find a huge covered outdoor area with picnic tables overlooking the course. Might be a fireplace there as well.
