ChampionsGate Golf Club - International
Played On 03/12/2016Not Impressed
I was able to sneak away from the family's Disney vacation to get one round of golf in. Since the International course was close to where I was staying and there was a Hot Deal, I went for it. Based on other reviews I had higher expectations. Layout was not impressive nor was the condition of the course. Tee boxes were beat up and many of the large bunkers were unplayable. In fact, the started explained that any bunker with a blue stake was a free lift because of "local rules". Apparently these bunkers do not drain well. Many of the bunkers fell into this category. Seems like the course was not built with proper drainage. Keep in mind that this was on day 7 of a 10 day trip where there was zero rain the entire time. Given the number of quality courses in the area, I would look elsewhere.
Atunyote Golf Club at Turning Stone
Played On 11/18/2015Can't Go Wrong
This is one of the most challenging public courses in New York State. Always extremely well maintained and a pleasure to play. This course requires much more accuracy compared to the sister course Shenandoah. Shenandoah is also beautiful, but is a resort course and is much more forgiving. Beautiful facility.
Timber Banks Golf Club & Marina
Played On 06/24/2014Great course with challenging greens
Outside of the casino courses, this is the best public course in the Syracuse area IMO. Some people complain that the greens have too severe of undulation, but everyone is playing the same course. The course conditions are excellent and it is a great layout. The course also has good practice facilities. My only complaint is that lack of a clubhouse which supposedly has been coming for a few years, but no sign of a ground breaking yet.
