don't let any negative review comments you might read about the condition of the bunkers dissuade you from playing. maybe the visual impression of how the bunkers are maintained is inconsistent with what you imagine for a high quality golf experience, but playability from the bunkers was excellent. the real challenge was in dealing with the auto-prohibition of cart access to certain parts of the course. they really could be a little more generous with that institutional decision making and give you a little leeway to turn the cart around by driving forward.

a botched experience

i was paired as a single with an ultra beginner couple with no concept of golf etiquette. they were nice people, but it's not a fun way to play, with topped balls down the third base line being looked for for "hours" in the long grass and never advanced unless i suggested it. they dropped out after two holes. my tee-off time was delayed 15 minutes waiting for these people to show up, even though a 3-some went off ahead of me. even that 3-some spent more time standing around talking after they had hit and then slowly putting clubs back in the bag. marshalls would have made a big difference, but...covid...i understand. and i much prefer the valley course to the palm course. not a fun day.

surprising fun--again

the layout is great, the gold's are a 130 slope and i like a challenge, the greens are in good shape, and the views are quite wonderful. one can only imagine this course in its prime as a u.s. open qualifying course. overgrown tee boxes, not nearly enough sand in the bunkers, lots of bald spots, nothing approaching a cushy lie, a two club wind. meh! i still had a blast. i've played this course a dozen times and only three or four rounds have been what i would call "windy." so it's not in great shape. the greens are good and that's all your really need. my high handicap wife had a blast, too!

Come...if you just like to play

i'm a 9-index. i've played here a dozen times, sometimes in perfect conditions, often in windy conditions, once in 45-mph winds. i've always had a good time. the reviews that trash the amenities and conditions are basically accurate. HOWEVER, the layout is really very good (they used to play some big time tourneys here), the greens are in quite good shape, and if you like to play it's usually a great bang for your buck. what's a bunch of weeds on the tee box or on the fairway?! i've had a good time every time.

REALLY ENJOYABLE VALUE

What used to be, or could be, a very high end course has seen better days. But this didn't diminish my group's enjoyment of the course and the day. What the course lacks in maintenance doesn't detract from the play. We just made sure to check the wind forecast ahead of time. With few people on the course, we played in an easy three hours and fifteen minutes. The layout is great, the greens are in good shape and roll true. You can't beat this value!!

First Time Playing

Playing Mesquite Golf Course for the first time, there was a lot more interest to the course than I imagined there would be. That was a very pleasant surprise. The course was in poor shape to the eye, but it played fine. There were only two cars in the parking lot when my wife and I showed up for our 8:22am round on the first Sunday in June, which I suppose was to be expected, but that was perfect for us. I'm thinking I would play the course again, but in the summer I would look to pay less the next time. I recommend giving Mesquite a try.
