Roses Run Country Club
Played On 09/25/2019Love the front, hate most of the back
Front is nice layout with multiple doglegs, back not as much, 10 and 18 are good holes, The rest are either non discript or just tight target golf. Practice range has been let go, looks like the rough at Carnoustie.
Ridge Top Golf Course
Played On 09/16/2019Nice little course
Nice course in very good condition. Greens have a good amount of undulation to them. Four parallel holes on the back has a tendency to lead to some problems with golfers crossing between fairways.
Sleepy Hollow Country Club
Played On 08/23/2019Has Potential
Older tree lined course with elevation changes and 3 to 4K sized round greens. Course has a lot of crabgrass, greens are starting to grow back in, but still many bare spots. Layout is a little tricky, more signage is definitely needed. We made the turn and had a tough time finding the tenth tee. After finding it a threesome appeared in front of us. They were taking forever to play, well actually looking for their balls. They finally let us play thru, and in talking with them they said they were on the thirteenth hole, but it was the tenth. So as I said signage could be improved.
Course was sold at auction this spring with the stipulation that it remain open as a golf course for one year at least. Will be interesting to see if it is open for the 2020 season. I hope so as it does have potential.
Ellsworth Meadows Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2018Nice Course, TERRIBLE Pace of Play
Started two tee times behind and it only got worse from there. Five plus hours to play 18 on a fall weekday afternoon. Carts have notices on them to "Play in 4". If anyone but the first group out does that, they should be given a free round of golf. No rangers in sight
Now the course, five tees give you many choices, greens were quick, fairways were lush, leaves were under control for a windy fall day. There is the possibility for balls to stray into other fairways in some areas. A nice course, but until I hear that they have made some realistic attempts to increase pace of play, it is not a course I will be returning to.
The Fairways at Twin Lakes
Played On 10/16/2018Keeps getting Better
Great nine hole track. Course has made great strides since I first played about 5 years ago. Layout is challenging, conditions are close to perfect, pace of play is fantastic. An overall GEM! Plus new carts this season are the best I have ever used.
Brookside Golf Course
Played On 08/22/2018Good Green Complexes
An inch and a half of rain the previous two days made the course squishy in most places and had carts running a true 90 degrees from paths. Some die back in the fairways, shows the moisture was needed. White flags were a little confusing at first, till you realize they are for the foot golf. Greens were the best part of the course, a nice size, enough undulation and speed to make them tricky. Back nine is a little tougher IMO, due to elevation change. Worth the 1 hour 15 minute drive.
Skyland Pines Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2018Great parkland course
Been two years since I last played. Course is in good shape, greens are true and quick. Rough is tall and thick. Staff is friendly.
Fox Den Golf Course
Played On 07/09/2018Worse than last season
Conditions have deteriorated since last season. Greens have many more ball marks. The redesign of the fifth and sixth holes is not a plus in my opinion. Three par 3's and back to back par 5's on the same nine just does not work too well. Definetly slows down play. Would have been simpler and more cost effective to just cut down trees on the inside of the dogleg of the old fifth hole , where they put the tees for the new 6th hole, thrown in a fairway bunker in the inside of the dogleg to give players a chance to bite off more of the corner but with a little bit of risk with the bunker there to penalize you if you try to bite off too much. Also the green on the new par 3 fifth is in very bad shape, many dead spots, some of which have been patched, while most have not been fixed. Pace of play was slow, had to wait on every shot after the first hole. The Stow girls team out practicing was the beginning of the problem, with the coach out teaching on the course. Saw quite a few handicap flags on carts, another sow down there. But the biggest problem is tee times set on only seven minute intervals. This is a course that I would anytime before, but I don't think it will be high on my list in the near future
Pheasant Run Golf Course
Played On 06/25/2018Pleasantly Surprised
Was not expecting much after reading reviews for Pheasant Run. Some people just have too high of expectations, I guess. Staff was very friendly, carts have seen better days, but still do what they are supposed to do. Tee boxes were above average, fairways good, greens were shaggy. Talked to the gentleman changing cups, and he said they were not cut today due to the greens being sprayed. Thats understandable. Front nine is the original nine, a bit tighter but not restricting, with smaller round greens. The back nine is more open with greens about double the size of the front. Being more open the wind has much more of an impact on the back nine. The course is supposedly owned by the Spitzer Auto Group, and is not really high on their priority list, leading to a tight budget with a short staff. I don't know how many cars they sell in a year. Probably somewhere in the tens of thousands thru their multiple dealerships, just imagine if they took $1 from each sale and put into the course for small improvements. Pheasant Run would then be able raise green fees a tad, along with increased play from the improved conditions and be totally self sufficient with much better playing conditions. I drove over an hour to try out this course, and it was well worth it.
The Fairways at Twin Lakes
Played On 06/18/2018Better every Time
Becoming my go to course for nine holes, when I just don't have time for 18. Course has improved dramatically since I first played it 4 seasons ago.
Sandpiper Bay Golf & Country Club - Sand Nine
Played On 12/22/2017Course does not drain
Played piper and bay nines two days after it rained, and it was cart path only, and the cart paths are a long way from the fairway. Wasn't sure the cart would get thru the path in few spots the water was so high two days after the rain. Many puddles in the fairways, lift clean and place all day long. I am a fan of Dan Maples designs, and sandpiper bay is no different, a good design, but unfortunately with terrible drainage.
Crown Park Golf Course
Played On 11/28/2016Lot's of Water
Course has many water hazards, regular and lateral, not to mention the casual water in the fairways which had 4 holes CPO. I was told the wet fairways were due to watering to keep the overseeeded rye growing. If that's the case, they need to control the amount of water they dump on the course, so it is playable all the way thru. If it dries out, I may give it another try.
Brierwood Golf Club
Played On 11/25/2016Getting Better Every Time
Nice layout, with improving conditions, makes this one of our favorite courses to play in the Carolinas every winter. Greens were in the best shape ever, with only a couple having a few clumps of unwanted fairway bermuda.
Golf Hill Par 3
Played On 11/23/2016Now a vacant lot
Was a neat lighted par 3 back in the day, has been closed for about 20 years
Black Bear Golf Club
Played On 11/22/2016Another MB GC Casualty
Course has been closed and for sale since August 2016. Great Tom Jackson layout that the Chinese ran into the ground.
Mud Run Golf Course
Played On 11/14/2016Local's Country Club
Nice 9 hole layout, but not really walkable due to massive distances between greens and the next tee. Regulars treat it like their own private CC, which can lead to long rounds, due to people ball hawking or appearing out of nowhere to jump in front of you.
Kent State University Golf Club
Played On 11/07/2016Closing December 2016
Course is quirky with a short front nine and more regulation back nine. Due to budget restraints KSU is planning to close the course at the end of the year (2016)
Kent State University Golf Club
Played On 11/07/2016Conditions lacking
Course is a little quirky to begin with par 33 on front with a par 37 on the back. Leaves were everywhere, tees, greens, fairways. Saw a couple of kids with backpack blowers blowing tees later in the round, but that does you little good when you split the fairway and can't find the ball because it is covered in leaves. The cart we had felt like it had no suspension, the group in front of us had one of their carts die on the 2nd hole. Pace of play was terribly slow. The problem foursome was told to pick up the pace on the back nine, but they played even slower.
Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Links - Water 9
Played On 11/02/2016Great Fall Golf
Been about two years since I had played Turkeyfoot. Course was in great shape, fairways were good and clear of leaves, greens were very fast and true, only downside is that about half of the holes were using temporary tees. Understandable as they were letting the regular tees grow back in, just made some of the holes much shorter than stated.
Ridge Top Golf Course
Played On 09/21/2016Interesting Layout
Greens were very good, tees were decent could use a little more water. The fairways definitely had a tough summer, many bare spots. They had verticut them to try to get more water absorption. They need to aereate and overseed them this fall, to give them a chance to be decent for next season.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Roses Run Country Club. We hope to see you again in the future.
