Monroe Country Club
Played On 02/04/2020Fast greens, fun layout....
Greens are very fast and in good condition. Fairways are decent for this time of year but the rough around the greens could use some work. One of my more favorite courses to play around Charlotte.
Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech
Played On 10/17/2019Fast greens and amazing views
Played course a day after heavy rain so it was a little wet. Strong winds, tight fairways and small greens made the front very difficult. Course layout/design is a 10, condition was an 8, greens rolled about 13 but had a few ball marks due to the softness from the rain. Only down side was it was pretty slow. Definitely one of the best courses I’ve played and I would recommend everyone play it if you are within 60 miles of the course.
Country Club of Whispering Pines - Pines Course
Played On 05/02/2018Classic old school course
What fun course to play! Some of the trickiest greens I've ever played and they were in great condition. It's definitely a course you need to play a few times before you start scoring low. Conditions of the fairways and rough were a little tight and hard but the greens were top notch. It's a true throw back course with some great holes. I definatley would play again.
The Neuse Golf Club
Played On 04/12/2018Best deal all year
First time playing this course and I couldn't have been more impressed. Course was in great condition with a very nice & difficult (but not too difficult) layout. Huge greens that are in very good condition, big elevation changes & tournament quality layout. A few gimmick holes but overall I loved this course. With getting the $15 Hot Deal, this was by far the best deal I have gotten all year considering the quality of the course.
Monroe Country Club
Played On 01/26/2018Great greens, hidden gem
I've been meaning to place this course for a few years but was always a little hesitant because it was in Monroe. My mistake! This course has the best greens (front 9) in Charlotte and it was fun playing a Jones and Jackson layout on one course. The front nine (Jones) is old school traditional with shorter holes, small fast greens with deadly pin placements. While the back nine (Jackson) feels like a completely different course playing 300-400 yards longer, big greens and new school layout. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely will be back!
ChampionsGate Country Club
Played On 09/22/2016Dry as a bone when all other course are soggy....
This course drains incredibly!!! Two days before the course received over 3 inches of rain but it was completely dry and in pristine condition. I played the Waldorf Astoria the day before and it was soaking wet. There was also no one playing this course today. I played as a single and didn't see a single group until I reached 17. I've got to give it to the grounds crew, this course is in incredible shape. The greens are still a little young but they roll very well, are consistent and have good enough speed. The fairways and rough are as good as any top tier course in the area. This course is pretty wide open and has short rough, so it makes for an easy enjoyable round. One my trip to Orlando this week I played Tranquilo, Waldorf and Champions Gate Country Club. I must say the Champions Gate CC was probably in the best shape out of the three. If you want first class service with fast greens and a real challenging course then play Waldorf Astoria. If you want picturesque holes, wildlife and tree lined fairways then play Tranquilo. If you want a really enjoyable course that is in pristine conditions with wide open holes at a reasonable price.... Play Champions Gate CC. If your are going to play any of the Champions Gate courses I highly recomended you play Country Club.
Waldorf Astoria Golf Club
Played On 09/20/2016Great Greens
I played the day after they received 3 inches of rain, so the course was extremely wet. That being said, the greens were probably the best greens I've played in Orlando. The course is extremely challenging. Super tight fairways, a ton of bunkers and water on many holes. You need to be an above average golfer to enjoy this course because if you miss the fairway you are going to be hitting out of bunkers or losing balls. The greens rolled very true and were extremely fast for this time of year, which I loved. The staff was probably the best staff of any Orlando course I've played. This course had some awesome holes but also had a few boring straight forward holes. The course is your typical high end resort style course as opposed to Tranquilo, which is doesn't feel like a resort course. If you can only play one round in Orlando I would go with whichever one has the best rate between: Tranquilo, Grand Cypress New, Waldorf Astoria, Bella Collina or Orange County Crooked Cat.
Tranquilo Golf Club at Four Seasons Resort Orlando
Played On 09/19/2016Beautiful Course
This is in my top 5 courses in Florida. You do not feel like your at a resort course, you feel like your in the middle of a forest. I saw groups of deer on 5 different holes. The only down side to that were the deer tracks running through the middle of the 2nd green. Speaking of greens, they rolled true but were a little inconsistent on the speed. This course has some really fun holes. I played the Waldorf Astoria course the next day but preferred Tranquilo over the Waldorf. The Waldorf course had better & faster greens but the layout and environment at Tranquilo was much better. Staff was what is expected at a course like this, however, I preferred the staff at the Waldorf. Overall, this is a must play if you can offered it. I played on a Hot Deal for $50. This course is right in line with Orange County and Grand Cypress but I don't think is worth anything over $100.
The Legends at Orange Lake Resort
Played On 04/11/2016Nice Layout, poor greens
The course layout is nice and I can tell it once was a great place. Unfortunately the greens were in pretty bad shape as was the tee boxes. The practice green was horrible. This course is not close to being worth $90. I got a hot deal at $35 so I wasn't that disappointed. On the positive side, the staff was fantastic, the restaurant was also nice and the course layout was very fun to play. This course has some awesome holes, more so on the back nine. If they put some money into the greens this place would be frequent stop for me when I'm in Orlando, but it's certainly not worth more than $40 at this time.
Eagle Chase Golf Club
Played On 12/16/2015Course in great shape.......
Course was in great shape, greens rolled true and could be a little faster. Hardly anyone playing on a beutiful day. I played as a single. Caught a twosome on 10 and they wouldn't let me play through so that was the only downside other then the long drive to get there.
Thank you greglavespere for playing at Tranquilo. Glad to hear that the deer came out to say hello to you.
Hope to see you back again.
