Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course
Played On 04/05/2019Great course
Wonderful layout. Much more up and down than most Florida courses. Wonderful use of the single tree to limit access to the green on certain lines. Conditions decent, greens could have been a bit quicker. Would certainly play again.
Saddlebrook at Saddlebrook Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 11/14/2017Good course, but
The golf course was interesting, with a nice mix of shorter and longer holes. The conditioning was not the best; the course was being overseeded, and they were working on some of the greens, making them a patchwork in some cases. Greens were overall on the slow side. No walking allowed, which is a big mistake for a flat course like this one. The practice range is about a 5 minute cart ride through the resort on residential streets, which was a bit annoying.
Raven's Claw Golf Club
Played On 11/02/2017Very good conditions
Raven's claw is a good mix of fun and challenging holes. While I've played here often, I was struck this time at the quality of the conditioning and the friendliness of the staff. The greens were in very good shape (they're often a bit slow for my taste, but not this time), the fairways were also in great shape. The starter let us begin a bit before our time, allowing us to get ahead of a foursome who ended up being very slow (we finished five holes ahead). A pleasant day at a nice course.
Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2016Sold golf great value
Nice track, always in very good condition. The course is not particularly long, but there are many (!) trees that will disrupt wayward shots. The front nine is harder than the back. Best holes are #2 (narrow driving area, creek bisects the fairway, green guarded by large trees, and #6 (straight par 4, another creek bisects the fairway, small slopey green protected by stream and grass bunker. Trees on 10 makes the approach shot difficult - a chain saw is sorely needed here. A fun track at a very affordable price.
Indigo Creek Golf Club
Played On 02/26/2016Extremely wet
Nice golf course at a very reasonable price at Myrtle. The area had extensive rain recently, so carts were on paths only and golf balls routinely plugged in the fairways. The course was mostly flat, but the greens were interesting and some of the holes had some very nice design features. A good course that I wish I had caught when it was drier.
Galen Hall Golf Club
Played On 06/15/2014Quirky little gem
I played Galen Hall on the recommendation of several friends - it's about 50 miles from home but worth the trip. The course design is unusual to say the least, but really interesting. There were several memorable and beautiful holes. The greens are very contoured, and it helps to stay below the hole. Great value for the price. Not easy to walk if you don't like to ride carts.
Woodbridge Country Club
Played On 7/13/2013Great old layout
Fun course with lots of uphill/downhill holes and good elevation changes. Conditioning overall great except for holes 1 and 18 - don't be discouraged by #1, it gets a lot better. Greens have a lot of coutour, and if they ever let them get very fast, they would be very difficult to putt. Pace of play was slow, but when prompted the staff sent out rangers to push people along. I'd definitely return!
Ballamor Golf Club
Played On 6/26/2013Great layout great conditioning
The best modern Jersey shore course I've played to date. Surprising elevation changes considering how close the course is to the shore. The greens were quick, nicely contoured, and in beautiful condition. Fairways were great, lots of bunkering in strategic places. Most of the rough was not that taxing, but there were some thick spots. My only concern would be pace of play - we were the first group and played in four hours. I can imagine that it slows substantially at busier times due to the course difficulty and the relatively long green to tee distances.
The Links At Lighthouse Sound
Played On 3/28/2013Great course but challenging
I played on a 48 degree day with a 15 mile per hour wind. Holes into the wind were extremely challenging - the course has some long forced carries that were intimidating at times. A good mix of short and long par fours, with some really tough fours and fives. The finishing hole was a short five, lots of fun with a severe green to tax wayward shots. Favorite hole was #4 - long carry over marsh off the tee, with green tucked back into a little protected area. Greens were fun - lots of bunkering and countours. Have fun, but be sure to bring enough balls!
La Cantera Golf Club
Played On 8/11/2012Fun layout
I played this course while vacationing in San Antonio. The course had a few very fun short par 4 holes, including one with an elevated tee hitting toward the roller coasters of the neighboring Six Flags. Conditions were great - being mid summer, the course played firm with a lot of roll. The course was set up to be relatively easy and golfer-friendly - I would have preferred a few more challenging holes. Overall, a nice resort course that I was able to play at a reasonable rate.
