The Club at River Wilderness
Played On 03/01/2023Good but not as good
I’ve played this course a few times over the last 5 years. It’s still good but the greens aren’t as good as last time I played here. It’s still winter and I’m sure it will improve. They always seem to do a good job here with maintenance.

If I could rate this course 4.5 ⭐️ I would. Anything that’s not in great shape they are actively working on it. Lots of water in play on nearly every shot. I felt like there was lots of room to hit the ball. I would describe the course as look hard plays easier. Trust the GPS in the golf cart. I found it to be very accurate. The greens were fast and medium firmness. The fairways were in very very good condition. A few of the tees were not great but were good and they were actively trying to improve them. Overall one of the best courses I have played this year.

Greens were excellent. Fairways were good. Tees were very good. I would play it again. The course is not long. The winds always make it challenging. Not too many hidden water hazards.

Buffalo Creek Golf Course
Played On 03/09/2022In good condition
Hdcp 0-4: There were a lot of people playing golf so it was a slow round. Our group tried to not let it bother us. The fairways were a little fuzzy. It’s winter time. Thankful for green grass. The greens were medium speed. They were very healthy which I think is more important than fast. For this time of year overall I found no complaints in course condition.
Thanks for playing
The Oaks Course
Played On 11/05/2020Never in better shape
I was a member of this course many years ago. I try to play it when I’m in town. Hdcp 0-6. The course is in as good a shape tee to green as you will find anywhere in Georgia. The greens were perfect. I would recommend you go play this course if you have the chance.
Jacaranda West Country Club
Played On 09/17/2020Very Good
0-6 HDCP. Greeted by friendly staff inside and outside of the clubhouse. Course was in very good condition tee to green. There were 3 tee shots on the back nine that trees near the tee did cause some issue. These issues probably wouldn’t be in play from the middle or forward tees. Otherwise I have only positive things to say about the course.

I thought I’d give it a try. I see the staff out on the course working on the bunkers which I heard were so bad. I’m going to use 5/10 as average on this rating. Greens 8/10. Healthy and medium firmness. . Fairways 5/10. The tee boxes are 4/10. The bunkers are in disrepair at this time but again I saw staff on the course working on this during my round. Just based on the greens I’d okay it again. The average hole is nice and wide in the hitting area off the tee. The greens have good character. I think they could fill in Several of the sand traps as I think there are too many for this design. Which would save the member/owners some money.
Thanks for playing and for your comments. Our team is working really hard every day to continue improving the golf course! We hope to see you at The Club again soon.

I used to be a member here years ago. The greens are near perfection. The only reason I don’t give this course a perfect score is that the rough has quite a bit of “other” grass growing in it. This may resolve as the weather gets warmer and the Bermuda growing season has a chance to take over. I don’t remember that from before. Also that new church pew bunker on 5 is a travesty. It’s not visible from the tee and very punishing to a golfer that thinks he’s hit a drive in the left half of the fairway. It seems a bit tricked up. All of those baby oak trees have matured and the planting locations seem appropriate based on their size. I like the look of the course even more now that the trees have matured. All in all this course is a favorite of mine and when I get close enough to play it again I surely will.
Forsyth Golf Club
Played On 03/16/2019In winter condition
The greens are still in winter condition. They are making efforts to improve this course. A new pond added since last year. Some places they have been cleaning up the overgrown areas. It’s a hilly little course that’s good to play to keep your game sharp.
Hickory Hill Golf Course - Creekside/Roadside
Played On 03/21/2019Short course with decent layout
0-8 hdcp. Course is in good shape. Still looks like winter for the most part. They did over-seed the tee boxes so they were in excellent shape. The fairways are in normal winter condition. They were firm and average to fair in width. The greens are small which makes up for the lack of length. They were in good condition and would hold a shot. Overall the course plays firm and fast. It was quite windy the day I played so that was taking most of my attention. There are 27 holes and never do you feel like you are playing the same hole twice. I would say they have made the most of the land they had to build upon.
The Club at River Wilderness
Played On 07/26/2018Amazing condition very good design
Handicap: 2-6. I would recommend this course to anyone I know. Very good design. Excellent course condition when I played it. It had been raining a lot but the course held up to the rain very well in my opinion. The greens were rolling about 10.5 on the stimp meter. Yes, I own a stimp meter. The greens were pretty healthy and were medium firmness. They would hold any decent shot hit into them. The fairways were in top condition. Tee boxes too. I would play it again anytime.
Buffalo Creek Golf Course
Played On 03/10/2019Great layout
Handicap: 2-6 range. The greens were in good condition. They were rolling about 9 on the stimp meter. Yes I own a stimp meter. They would hold an average shot hit into them with stop and drop type of grab. The fairways were over seeded for the winter and the grass was a tad long in the fairways. The tee boxes were in good condition. The rough is still dormant as expected. Overall the course has a “looks tough plays not as tough” as it looks design. Plenty of water in play. A good shot will avoid most of the water. I joined up with another fast good golfer named Rex. We should have joined up with about 4 more people. The course was very busy with many golfers on the course and the driving range. I will plan to play this course again.
Masonboro Golf Club
Played On 06/20/2018Frustrating
Hdcp 0-8: The design of the course is punishing. The designer is from the look easy/play hard school of design. Many times obstacles are hidden from the tee. The course is relatively narrow from tee to green. The day I played the tees were moved very far forward. It frustrated me. I was told to play to the 150 markers as a general rule. I guess that is sound advice. Overall the course condition is 2/5. Most of the bunkers are in process of becoming grass bunkers. The greens were quick and rolled decently but overall they were not in healthy condition. They do have a driving range and it was in good condition. The staff was friendly. I don’t believe I will try it again any time soon. The price was fair.
Legacy Golf Club
Played On 05/25/20180-8 handicap
A very fair but challenging Golf course. The greens were basically perfect. The fairways were pretty wide. The rough was almost like tall fairways. Plenty of water in play. Several times there are challenging shots. Doesn’t have a punishing feel to it. Probably has 3 sand traps per hole. Interesting green complexes. Well maintained tee to green. Everyone in my group shot a little over their handicap at their home course mostly due to course knowledge. I would definitely play it again.
Southern Hills Golf Club
Played On 10/03/2017Great again this time around
Tees 8/10. Fairways 8/10. Greens 8/10 only because they recently verticut them. Overall a great course. Lots of variety. Staff is courteous. Course is better the second and third times around as you learn how to play certain holes like number 1 and number 6 that both feature a fairway crossing creek. Quite a bit of water in play. You could probably actually find the water on 9/18 holes. Greens are rolling true and smooth and faster than average greens. I will definitely come back again.
The Club at Savannah Harbor
Played On 08/15/2017It's rained a lot here in Savannah
Great modern layout with big fairways and big greens for the most part. Also, big trouble if you get way off line. The weather has been unkind to this course lately. They have had way too much rain. The fairways are in great shape but very wet. I think I averaged about 1 yard of roll off the tee all day. Not the courses fault. The driving range was closed so no warm up before my round. Also because of the rain. The greens had been top dressed recently. Probably also because of the amount of rain. The still had a lot of grass on them and putted very well. Overall a great layout in good condition. Normally in very good condition. I suggest playing up one tee box until the course dries out some.
The Landings Golf Club - Trestle/Bluff
Played On 07/11/2017Worth it
This course has made a great come back from years past. The practice area is top notch. The course itself is in very good shape. A good challenge from the championship tees for me as the course plays 7,000 yards. There is a very good variety of holes and designs. When I played the greens were 9/10 condition and rolling about 9 on the stimp meter. Yes I own one. The tees were 8/10. The fairways were 7/10. The rough was short and very fair. My only complaint is that they cut down all the trees in the parking lot. So no shade to park your car under. Bring gnat repellent as you are below the gnat line here. Ask about the membership if you live nearby. Oh yeah. They redesigned that one bad par four on the back. It's much better now.
That "bad" par-4 was the most challenging in Middle GA! It's the one GolfNow is showing above. Whereas that used to be the tee shot, then across the pond the green is now in front of the pond. But GSGA said it was unfair and wouldn't hold tournaments here because of it. Who said golf was fair? :-)
Hello, u220912277. Thanks so much for your review. We're so glad you enjoyed your round at Waterlefe Golf & River Club. That's what we like to hear! We hope to see you again soon!
