Palmetto-Pine Country Club
Played On 01/25/2016Good Course
This course very flat, typical of older Florida courses, but with significantly elevated greens. It plays considerably longer than its length and slope suggests. Although a waterway winds through the course it only comes into play on three or four of the holes. My foursome played the course comfortably in 4.5 hours. Greens were in good shape but quite small. Most of the fairways were also in good shape except along the edges where bare ground merged into rough. Bunkers were well maintained. T boxes were level and well sodded. A good course but unimaginative in its layout.
Expected better course conditions
This club is comprised of two 9-hole courses that are distinctly different: the back 9 that was completed according to an ambitious and well financed plan and the front 9 that appeared to have been completed after funding got tight. When we played recent rains had washed out most of the bunkers and several of the greens had the tire tread of heavy machinery imprinted on them. So the apparent bargain-pricing that my 4-some paid was really reflected in the quality of the course conditions. Lehigh Acres appears to have been beat up by the recession and this course still reflects those hard times but to their credit the course owners/managers are trying to make a decent go of it. It was nice to see players assistants out and about, keeping the speed of play up.
Millcroft Golf Club
Played On 09/10/2015Suburban sanctuary
This short course is very flat and it's fairways are lined with housing somewhat obscured by trees. Greens, fairways and bunkers were in great shape. Layout moderately interesting with several water hazards. If you're fighting a hooking or slicing driver you will be in backyards for the entire round.
Royal Ontario Golf Club
Played On 08/25/2014Five and a half hour round!
No starter was present and the only marshal we saw appeared to spend his afternoon searching for lost balls. Greens were quick but beaten up by tournament play. Fairways and bunkers were well kept. Water hazard margins are overgrown with cattails and not clearly visible from the tees. This along with undulating and dog-legged fairways yield a course where a GPS is a necessity. Practice range was closed. Design was quite interesting. This could be a lot better course with a few management tweaks.
Silver Lakes Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/15/2014Swing to the beat!
First time I have ever encountered a golfer audibly playing music while golfing. Not surprising since his entire foursome was drinking heavily and became very boisterous. The marshal helped us play through but the music continued uninterrupted in his presence. Members appear to do whatever they please here just as long as they keep buying beer. Otherwise this is a well-maintained course. It is very flat with the trees lining the fairway and water on a few holes posing the most significant challenge. Sand traps were in good shape with uniform sand depth however greens were wooly. Layout got a little repetitious as we progressed through the round.
Royal Woodbine Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2014Loud with surprisingly abundant wildlife.
Landing jets passing overhead creates quite a din on opening and closing holes. There must be a furniture company adjacent to the 9th green, detectable from the strong smell of glue there. If you can get beyond these drawbacks this is a very nice course. A NW Wind makes it play much longer. Play can be very slow if you get behind a tournament (of which there are many) despite ample marshall staff. Greens reasonably fast and well groomed, as are bunkers and fairways. Course has been very creative in managing a large population of waterfowl. Rabbits abound and coyotes are quite bold. Water hazards in play on 13 of 18 wholes.
Wentworth Golf Club
Played On 03/14/2014Courses don't have to be long to be fun!
This is a great little course for straight hitters who pay attention to their yardages. If you spray your drives, you will loose a lot of balls. Greens and fairways were in great shape when I played. Many over-hanging trees really narrow the fairways and the seemingly endless array of bunkers demand precise distance control and ball striking. The sand is consistently good. Best of all the starters and marshals enforce the pace of play! All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.
Treasure Bay Golf & Tennis
Played On 03/02/2014Tiny course; great for seniors & novices
Great way to spend a relaxing hour and a half playing on the edge of the inter-coastal waterway. Never used more than a 5-iron and that was only on one hole. Greens are tiny and rough but puttable. Take a dozen balls if you’re new to the game; I guarantee you’ll hit a few into the water hazards!
Lansbrook Golf Club
Played On 02/28/20145-Hour Round on a Good Course
Combine a starter that appeared to have a more sympathetic ear to local regulars than to visitors with the absence of an on-course marshal and you end up with pathetically slow play! Inadequate number of carts generated crowds on the first tee. Our tee time was delayed 25 minutes (and no, there was no frost delay). Greens were very true and fast. Fairways, tees and bunkers reasonably well kept. If you can’t hit the ball straight don’t come here as you will be holding up play as you search the jungle lining the tight fairways and alligator filled ponds for your balls.
Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 02/25/2014Still good but deteriorating
Have played here many times during several vacations over the past 10-years. Interesting layout but course conditions are progressively deteriorating especially bunker perimeters and greens, which used to be the best in the area. On the day I played the putting surfaces were consistently wooly. The lack of a starter and course marshal resulted in a 5-hour plus round. One lonely attendant appeared to be the only one preparing and cleaning carts. Clubhouse closed early i.e. well before dark,
so trying to use the washroom at the end of the round became a challenge.
Chardonnay Golf Club
Played On 11/31/2013Interesting holes but course needed more care.
Greens were quite variable in speed. Greenside turf was bare hardpan on many holes so that slightly wayward shots took extremely penal bounces. Rough varied considerably in depth. Fairway turf was dried and/or beaten up in several patches. Green spray treatment (not water) started before we finished our round. Two of the par 3's were the toughest our group had ever seen.
Kahili Golf Course
Played On 11/29/2013Best Golfing Value For Visitors to Maui
Golfed here multiple times in a month long stay and was mostly pleased with course. Staff were helpful and accommodating. Although not long the course was challenging especially when the wind blew which is most of the time. Very fair for women golfing from the red tees. Greens were well kept except for #3 which needs slight regrading to aid in drainage. Fairways were in good shape and bunkers played uniform. Pace of place would benefit from more marshalling. Great views of Haleakala and the entire middle of the island. GPS on carts very useful for yardages but a little annoying when throttle governor kicks in on the fairway.
Blue Rock Springs Golf Course - East
Played On 11/3/2013Good course for the money.
Great scenic views of the San Pablo Bay to the west. Even though the greens had been recently aerated they were in great shape, if a little slow and bumpy. Many dramatic elevation changes in this mountain like setting. Tight sloping fairways on several holes. Many of the par 4’s ran parallel so were kind of monotonous however par 5’s and 3’s were very interesting.
Charleston National Golf Club
Played On 11/22/2012Well maintained, fun and very challenging
This is an excellent course that plays very difficult in the wind. Bunkers, fairways were in great shape, greens were excellent shape and putted true and fast. This course makes you think; if you want to score well you need accurate yardages on virtually every shot. Clubhouse was clean and service was fast. The par 4, 8th hole at 445 yards should be a par 5.
Summerville Country Club
Played On 11/21/2012Old and neglected.
From the outset my wife and I were made uncomfortable by the gruff greeting in the ramshackle proshop. The course has potential but neglect of almost all course features made our round memorable in the wrong way. All asphalt car paths need to be repaved; fairways and rough were cut identically and bare in many places especially along the edges; the tee boxes were uniformly a mess. Sand traps were in reasonable shape and the tiny greens were surprisingly good if one overlooked the occasional bare spot. The tall many pine trees lining the fairways were very scenic but rundown houses and cluttered backyards abutting the fairways really detract from their beauty. This course needs a makeover in the worst way.
Golf Club At Wescott Plantation - Oak Forest Course
Played On 11/17/2012Excellent value, course and clubhouse well maintained.
After playing this course three times in the last three weeks both my wife and I found it to be fair and in good shape. Staff were reasonably helpful and friendly. Greens were in excellent shape running moderately fast and sand traps were excellent. Fairways were moderately generous in width and regularly cut. Houses were mostly obscured by forest. Two minor complaints were time for food preparation at the turn so be sure to phone your order in from the 9th tee (but note that no landline is provided) and lack of marshal(s) makes for a long round on the weekend.
Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club
Played On 11/15/2012Excellent value, course needs works.
My wife and I played here three times in the last three weeks and both agree that it is by far the best value for the money. However this is also reflected in the conditions. Greens are fine if you don't mind them on the slow side. Bunkers are in some what rough shape and the golfers here do not seem to know what a rake is is used for. Fairways are ok in the middle but the edges of many are bare earth. Tees are in very bad shape indeed. Houses along fairway are very visible. The marshals are ineffective in speeding play. The practice area is in very bad shape. For all the traffic it gets from the surrounding residents I am puzzled why there appears to be so little investment in course maintenance.
Thank you so much for the review and extensive feedback of Copperhead Golf Club. We are so grateful you chose our golf club to golf while you were in town. We have worked very hard to getting the course in shape as well as keeping on top of pace of play throughout the day. Please come back and visit us again next time your in town!
