Spruce Creek Country Club
Played On 03/23/2018Average Conditions on an Interesting Course
First time playing Soruce Creek. I arrived to find a nice clubhouse, practice facility and speedy electric carts. Staff was helpful and there was good signage to help me get around. My playing partner called in sick and I hooked up with a nice couple from out of town. The practice tees needed to be moved up. There was almost no grass to hit off but 3 feet away there was plush fairway. The front 9 was pretty standard. Not very scenic until #8 at the end of a runway. Saw a number of small engine planes takeoff overhead. Kinda cool.
The back 9 kicked my butt. Found water a couple times. Some pretty awesome houses too.
Pace of play was atrocious. 4.5 hrs and never a ranger in sight. Seems to be common these days everywhere.
Conditions were pretty disappointing. Fairways and tee boxes were thin and bare. The greens were sandy and brown. Not what I expected. The greens rolled fairly smoothly but were fast. Really fast.
All in all a fun day and would recommend it for its novelty value (airplanes) but not necessarily for its golf.

First of all it was HOT which makes for less than ideal golf but I digress. I have played this course a dozen or so times over the years and was excited to return after moving back to Central Florida. Unfortunately, this course has not maintained itself very well. The practice facility is superb and most of the greens were well done but need to be rolled. Very bumpy. Tee boxes were ok. Some were sandy and missing grass. Fairways were ok but not perfect. We had the course to ourselves on a Friday afternoon and I finally convinced my 80-yr old Dad to play the forward tees. So a good day all around.

This place is 180 degrees different than 2 years ago. Fairways, tee boxes and greens were all in great conditions. Greens were lightning fast. Friendly staff. Nice carts. Cold beer. What else can I say. Highly recommended.

Played On 07/11/2014No Bueno
Pros:
It was nice weather today.
It's relatively short (think 3 wood of most par 4s)
The beer was good
Decent layout - Many obstacles in each hole force you to strategically approach each hole
Cons:
Conditions stink. - poor sandy greens, hairy greens, grass less tee boxes. Get the idea?
Rude staff. No starter. Desk guy barely acknowledged me.
I got a hot deal on GN and it was only $20. I would otherwise not bother. Goto lake Presidential.
Potomac Ridge - Meadows Course
Played On 05/08/2014Not what it used to be
This place has gone downhill over the years. Fairways are brown and thin in many areas. Greens were fine. Tee boxes were terrible. Grounds were unkempt. Burgers were decent. I got a GN deal for $32 so I don't feel ripped but it's not the calibre course it was when it was run by Atlantic golf.

Great course. Very slow play and never saw a Marshall.

Played On 5/23/2013Nice Track, Needs some TLC
Played on 5/23 at 11am with my dad. Overall, I like this course and have played it many times. The staff is friendly and service-oriented. The food is typical low-end golf munchies. The practice facility has great potential with grass tees, putting & chipping greens. Unfortunately, the range was not maintained, i.e weeds and tall grass on the range and the tee boxes were unusable.
That brings me to the course itself. It's a nice layout and mix of par 3s, 4s and 5s. Many doglegs to negotiate and plenty of woods to snag errant tee shots. Bring enough balls if you're a 90s player.
The pace of play was horrific. There was a 4-some in front of us that literally took 20 mins / hole. We doubled back to replay hole #7 2x and still caught them at #9. Not a ranger in sight.
The maintenance of the course is really lacking as well. A couple of the fairways had not been mowed in at least 4-5 days. The grass was over ankle high. The greens were well cut but had quote a few sandy/dead spots. It appears they aerated about 3-weeks ago and rolled well for the most part. I managed to stay out of the bunkers but they looked decent. There were, however, many "under repair" and looked like they had been that way for months, i.e. grass growing in them, etc. The tee boxes were immaculate.
Hope this helps. I gave it 2 stars but have played it at a 4-star level in the past. I believe the problem with this course to be management-related as it's quality has wavered from month-to-month / year-to-year in the past.
