Tanna Farms Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2021Still only 3 stars
First time playing course in over 7 years. Cashier/pro shop worker very nice and welcoming. Cart lady pleasant and visible. Course itself though, at best, 3 out of 5 stars. Ownership needs to invest money into a complete re-bunkering. Granted, they ARE hazards, but even the scratch player will have difficulty hitting a ball off of concrete with a lip in front. Still trying to figure out the intent of 13 (taking driver out of the player's hands on a 580-yd par 5) and 16 (one should always be able to see the flag on a par 3) without labeling them as tricked-up holes. Tee boxes are eaten up a little and greens more pock-marked than not, but you can tell grounds crew are making attempts to improve. Divot mix in the carts would go a long way. Overall, a fun course with conditions more suitable to a $45-$50 price point. Make the improvements and it would be worth the $57 current asking price.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
Played On 08/07/2021Same course, different value
Used to play St Andrew's a lot. It's a great course for the mid-to-high handicapper. Unfortunately, the days of Joe Jemsek (good golf at a fair price) are long gone. Took my daughter, who is just learning how to play the game, for 9 holes - at a cost of close to $80. That's a fair price for 18 holes. Just obscene for 9.
Klein Creek Golf Club
Played On 07/31/2021Nice changes
Had not played course in close to 5 years as it had been going downhill FAST. New ownership has made some nice changes for players of all levels. Played late afternoon and finished 18 in less than 3 hours.
Best change is that course has been made much more playable for the mid to high handicapper while still being a challenge for the better player.
Biggest drawback remains the lack of a practice range. Layout of first 3 holes presents a lot of issues. Not having the benefit of a warm-up magnifies them.
Nice changes at a fair price point.
Lost Marsh Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2017Pace of play ruins experience
Played course three weeks ago. 5 hour, 42 minute round. As it was a 90+ degree day, chalked it up to the warm day and an anamoly.
Gave course another chance yesterday. 5 hour, 36 minute round in high 70s, low 80s temps.
Despite reading management's responses that they are addressing pace of play concerns, it would appear that nothing is being done to correct the situation. If the course wants to keep the two rangers on payroll, then it may be better served having them do something else to earn their keep because they are certainly not doing what they are supposed to be doing, which is to keep groups on track in accordance with the course's suggested pace of play. On the two days that I played, the rangers seemed more interested in keeping their carts moving in pursuit of AVOIDING any groups than to approach groups needing a little nudge.
Lost Marsh is a fun course with its fair share of challenges. Unfortunately, until it TRULY cleans up its act on pace of play, there is very little value in what they ask the public to pay and is a recommended stay-away.
Erin Hills Golf Course
Played On 07/13/2015If you love golf, you must experience
Played 2 consecutive days with group of friends and stayed on-site. Fairly pricey, but it's a destination course that you need to play if you are in the Great Lakes.
Give yourself plenty of time and experience the entire day - from the driving range where you meet your caddy to the 19th hole that serves up some pretty good food and drink. Oh yeah, the golf course is pretty darn good, too.
Course properly rewards good shots and penalizes not-so-good ones. Nothing tricked up to the course. It's all right there in front of you.
LISTEN to your caddy. He will not steer you wrong.
