McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 7/8/2013Great shape for triple digit temperatures!!
Mc Dowell is a great course with different challenges all around. A yardage book will help, although the markers needed some trimming from the grass growing around as they were a bit difficult to find. A nice layout with plenty of room to work the ball and get rewarded. The greens were a bit slow. Nice clubhouse. On a down note communicating that there's no beverage cart would be helpful.
Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
Played On 5/21/2013Be aware of the numerous bunkers
Faldo course is one of the best that I've played in Scottsdale. Their endless bunkers require some thinking from the tee to select the club. The conditions of the course are exceptional considering that the 100 F are already hitting the ground. A few areas on the first cut were a bit too wet but playable. Great value for the course!!
Mesquite/Ironwood at Kierland Golf Club
Played On 5/7/2013A gem in the middle of Scottsdale
Kierland offers a great course with a great facility. The course, from tee to green is just perfect. The right amount of challenges gives you the chance to play aggressively if you want without being penalized too much. The only thing missing was.... sand to fill divots. But other than that, a perfect place to play in the middle of Scottsdale.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 4/30/2013Great course. Service not so well
I wish there was an option to rate separately the service received. The place is beautiful and the course is awesome. I had the chance to play Wild Burro and Tortolita (which is part of the match play tournament with the drivable par 4 15th). The golf course is very well maintained and the scenery is beautiful. I was very surprised about the service received though. There was no starter that indicated which two 9 holes to play or which direction take (there's a 3rd course called Saguaro which is the other half of the match play tournament) so when I did the turn, according to the score card it was supposed to be Saguaro. We teed off and we realized that there was no flag on the green so we went back to Tortolita. On the other hand, prior to finish the 8th hole, on the gps screen in the golf cart, there was an option to order food. I ordered a sandwich and at the turn I found out that the grill was closed and I had to go to the restaurant if I wanted something. I personally was expecting a much better service from this kind of golf course. Either way, to return sometime soon.
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
Played On 4/10/2013Great course, great service
Whirlwind is one of those courses that you MUST play if you're in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area. Great practice facility, course in great condition and excellent service. They provide with a yardage book that is very helpful. I played at Cattail course. Greens are receptive, fast but not extremely crazy. Definitely to come back and try Devil's Claw next time!!
Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club
Played On 2/10/2013Pretty straight forward and fun back nine
This course is very well maintained. Not many bunkers in play in the fairways so as long as you hit the fairway you are in a good position. Desert comes to play in every hole. Greens are fast but not very receptive. More of a bump and run play. The back nine has split fairways which almost don't need the driver to hit from the tee. Great time.
Legend Trail Golf Club
Played On 12/29/2012A beautiful gem
The layout of this course is beautiful. Desert all around but very playable. Wide fairways and a small yardage book are very helpful. Greens are quick but receptive. I had a tee time at 12:54 and I got there just over noon to hit some balls to find out that there was an hour of frost delay, which aroun this time of the year is very common so be aware if you book a tee time after 12 that you'll probably won't be able to do 18 holes. Fortunately for me, the starter paired me with a three-some that was supposed to tee of at 12 and we did it just after 1 pm. The course was pretty packed and it was slow all round long but it was still enjoyable. A must to play if you are in Scottsdale.
TPC Scottsdale - The Stadium Course
Played On 12/18/2012Great course and great service
Stadium course is always a treat to play. The conditions of the course are always great, especially getting close to the Waste Management Tournament. Championship tees are not available so the tees are moved forward a bit. The yardage book as the forecaddie are extremely useful. Cart path only until after the tournament might be a good chance to walk the course.
Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
Played On 12/11/2012Great course and very peaceful
This is my second time playing Padre and the quality is just great. The only down note about it was the cart path only rule applied. The pace could've been a bit faster if it wasn't path only. The GPS is not very helpful under this condition so a few strokes will be added to the score card due to the lack of yardage marks on the fairways. However, is one of my favorites in Scottsdale.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 12/07/2012Great course and great service
Very challenging course. A yardage book or a gps is a must playing here. Without it you will feel lost most of the times as there are several blind shots. The greens are very tricky to read and fast so be ready for a few three putts. Great views of Tucson and the mountains around the course.
Papago Golf Course
Played On 12/04/2012Not spectacular views but awesome course
The course offered a fair amount of challenge from the tees and elevated greens in some holes with a discreet bunkers in play making every shot to think before taking it. The GPS was accurate giving a lot of help while playing. The staff was very friendly. To be back for sure!!
Mountain Shadows Golf Course
Played On 11/16/2012Nice little course
This course offers good challenge for the irons and wedges. Nice quiet area. The tee boxes require some work as they are not flat so it gets difficult to be in a good position to tee off.
Peaks at Tonto Verde Golf Club
Played On 11/10/2012Great course and very peaceful
This course has been a real discovery. As a semi-private course, it has a range, chipping and putting green areas that are top notch. The staff is friendly and the facilities are pristine. The layout is great and offers a good challenge overall.
Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 11/3/2012Greens seemed roughs...
Ok value for the money but impossible to putt. The grass on the greens were as long as the rough.
Heron Lakes Golf Course
Played On 9/8/2012Terrible condition and staff not helpful
There's almost no difference between the fairway and the green. Unfortunately I didn't printed nor had in my phone the confirmation of the tee time. When the lady at the club house asked me for it she wasn't helpful despite that she has a computer. As I live outside of the U.S. I don't have the chance to have internet in my phone so I asked her if she had one and she said no, which she did have an Iphone charging under the glass counter. A gentleman that was there provided me with his phone and when I showed her the confirmation I noticed that she hid her phone under newspapers.
