Rainy day, but great fairways and greens

Booked a discounted round via Groupon. The staff were very friendly and comped me the range balls. Scheduled to play at 940 am, and was allowed off at 930 as a single. Player through two groups then teamed up with a two ball (Stuart and Ralph).

Fairways in great shape. Greens a little two paced, but fair. Easy to lose ball in even light rough. Managed to play 18 in 3.5 hours, so I was very happy. Shot 82, so I was extra happy.

Staff did not tell me that green 9 was temporary. Would have been helpful. Other than that, very happy.

5 hour round

I have played several twilight rounds. Went out at 2:09 Tuesday. Super slow round. Beginners were being allowed to play off competition tees - painfully slow. To add insult, there was no drinks cart, water was empty on 12 th tee and when I finally finished at 710 pm all the facilities in the clubhouse were closed. Had to drive to 2 miles to get a post round drink. Pretty shabby for $48 a round.

A Hidden Gem

I played one week after the storms of May 2015. 5 holes were closed due to lightning knocking out the irrigation, but I really enjoyed this course.

It is very well maintained. The bunkers were in pristine condition and the ground staff do a great job. Nice greens, nice fairways and $35 for 18 holes. Great views and it is a challenging course. Not overly long, but you need to be straight off the tee.

Highly recommended.

Nearly a really good course

I played three early morning rounds at the course. This has the look of a course that needs some investment in it. The fairways and greens are in very good condition for the most part. Its proximity to the lagoon on the western side of South Padre Island gives the course an occasional links feel, and there is plenty of water on the course.

Some of the rough is extremely wild and the pathways between holes tend to be surrounded by wild vegetation. The paths on the fairways are only partially metalled, so this could be an issue in bad weather. My cart got stuck on the cart path on hole 7, due to wet mud.

The staff were pretty friendly, although the green staff seemed more interested in finishing mowing than letting players play.

I was told that there has been a recent change in ownership and that the course is looking better than it ever has, so it is possible that this course may be transformed from good to great.
