King City Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2014Nice little course
I live real close to King City and Summerfield but also find myself at this course because it's fun, straightforward but still challenging. I've made it my personal mission to par this course (or close to)and I think its doable for the experienced golfer. I like that it's pretty laid back and the guys there are pretty friendly. I don't like the close proximity to the houses but it's much safer than Summerfield. One par 5 which is a good hole, the par 3's are all challenging especially the 4th hole because it's over 200 yards from the blue tees. The par 4's are pretty short but you really need to place your second shot well to par. The course itself is usually in solid condition and the greens aren't too ridiculously difficult, there's sand on a couple of holes that can cause trouble if you miss hit and water on the par 5 seventh hole. I recently stopped bringing my driver and 3 wood because it's short/tight and that forces me to be more accurate with my irons and hybrids but if you're accurate with your drives and don't hit it 250+ yards consistently then go for it. One time I actually hit the green on the third hole par 4 off the tee with my driver and eagled the putt, my first and only eagle. Overall it's a decent course with a decent price so I'll continue to go there and pursue the scratch round. If you don't need a full sized course that's fancy and overpriced then check out this course. For a nice championship course in the area check out Red Tail it's usually pretty fairly priced and has some deals on golf now.
Ranch Hills Golf Course
Played On 09/18/2013Wow for $2
I found an incredible last minute deal for a morning round at $2 for 9 holes and was blown away by this course when I got there. I haven't seen it for even close to that price at any other time. This is an interesting course with some cool challenges and different holes. Other reviews complain about the two holes with mats on the lofted tees but its part of the quirkiness of the course and didn't affect my shots at all. I definitely want to play again but had help with my shots from the other guy who booked online and knew the course. Nice conditions and fast greens. Easy walk. Well worth the drive, about 40 min from Tigard.
Eagle Landing Golf Club - North Eighteen
Played On 09/09/2013Short game skills increased
First off, understand this is a par 3 only course with its longest tees being around 80 yards and as short as 40 yards. But it is hands down the best way to boost your short game skills in 90 min. I got a little confused by the map on the scorecard as there is a short 9 hole course in the back but the full 18 (which I paid for) is in the front. Despite being short game only, the holes are all well maintained and greens are very nice. Great short game challenge and fun competition with your buddies. Good deal thru golfnow.com. Takes about an hour and a half for the 18 hole course and is an easy walk.
McKay Creek Golf Course & Driving Range
Played On 09/07/2013Good deal, nice course
Got a hot deal on golfnow.com and it was well worth it. This was an interesting 9 hole course with an easy to walk layout and some fun shots. Some short yardage par 3's, around 100 yards, but also a few long par 5's so good shot variation. They also had a snack cart come around every few holes for refreshments. Overall a nice course with solid fairways. The greens were being aerated so they were slow and sandy but honestly it didn't hurt our scores that much. We had fun and were paired up with a couple of cool guys who knew the course and helped us pick our shots. Will go back soon.
Sunset Grove Golf
Played On 09/02/2013Nice public 9 hole
Went here on Labor Day so it was a bit busy and slow paced but honestly we never stopped for more than a few minutes waiting for the group in front and I'm guessing its not always like that. It's a nice course outside of the hustle and bustle of the city and for $7 each, not a bad deal either. Good for all skills. Has two solid par 5's and a par of 36 total so you get a variety of shots in. Conditions were excellent on fairways and greens but a little yellow in rough and between trees. Definitely enjoyed the round and will go back again especially if I find it on golfnow.com
King City Golf Course
Played On 08/28/2013Nice course, fairly priced
King City is only a mile or two from where we live so my brother and I go there frequently. Without golfnow.com we pay $12-$14 depending if you go early or after 4pm but pops up online every once and awhile. This is a pretty straightforward but nice course that is fun and can be challenging. A couple par 5's and interesting par 4's. only downside is the houses nestled around the course if you slice or hook a tee shot every now and then. Also you have to be 21 to rent a cart which shocked me since I been renting carts since I was 14 so bring your ID or just look 21. Not sure if they were just BS' ing me or what. But regardless this is our favorite local course and has friendly staff.
Woodburn Golf Club
Played On 8/22/2013Good deal but...
Very inexpensive especially thru golf now.com but the grass isn't real "golfing" grass more like the yellow stuff in your neighbor's poorly maintained yard. The greens are actually sand making putting unrealistic but for $5 my brother and I got some good tee shots in and long irons off fairways. This is a good place to start or take kids because you will most likely never lose a ball and there is no "country club" pressure but its cheap for a reason. I think next time I'll just spend a little extra to play a real course.
Summerfield Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/16/2013Nice executive in neighborhood
This course is nestled in a elderly neighborhood and some fairways are lined by houses so be warned of the residents and older golfers. That said everyone we've met there has been more than friendly and the staff is nice too. But the course itself is in nice condition and is awesome to play if you can keep your tee shots straight. Not too long but still has a par 5 or two to keep you hitting long. Easy to walk. Greens are nice and not too challenging, includes some well placed bunkers and uses water on a hole or two. It's fairly inexpensive at regular price, around $11-$15, depends when you go or find it cheaper on golf now. It's close to home so I go there every once in awhile and will continue to.
