Well worth the trip

Has become one of our favorite places to play. Fairways are in good shape, greens are in great shape. Plenty of trees and hazards, but open enough so you can recover from errant shots. Back 9 has some very tight, tree-lined holes, and a very interesting par-5 that you would swear is a 360-degree circle that requires you to hit a draw on almost every shot if you are going to make par.

Great place, great value.

Top course in the area

Grand Haven has always been known as one of the best places to play. Well maintained, fast greens, and lots of trouble to get into.

It is a challenge for any level golfer, and a must play if you never have.

Favorite course in the Muskegon, MI area

Stonegate is a MUST PLAY course. Excellent club house, excellent golf course. Course is usually in immaculate shape, and the surrounding landscape is worth just driving a cart around for 4 hours.

Have played this course for several years and always tell myself, just get through 1 and 2, and it gets easier. #1 is really not all that difficult, but if you think you can carry the valley of death 230 yards out, you may find yourself with one less ball in your bag. Not a long hole..... 200 yard tee shot will be within 150 yards of the green and take the waste area out of play. Always happy with par on this hole. I've hit 3 wood from the back tees and put it in the waste area...... not smart play.

#2 is a par 3. 150+ yards. Leave it below the pin or just walk away and take bogey. You cannot stop a putt from rolling off that green if you land it above the pin. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Leave it short and you could be in the junk like #1. Target golf the first 2 holes......but fun.

After 1 and 2...... let the fun begin. Not a long course, but opens up a bit. I totally enjoy 3-18..... there are challenges, but it is not punishing. You can be less than straight off most tees and still recover.

If you can shape shots, you will love this course. A number of par 4's require fades or draws off the tee for the next shot into the green.

There are a fair amount of hazards..... bunkers and water. It's friendly, but you do need to think about what shot you are going to play. If you play it for the first time you will want to do it again, because it really is immaculate and beautiful, and you will want to play it again because you learn the nuances of it and where to place the ball.

I gave it 4 stars only because they rarely offer deals, and there are nicer courses in the area for 1/2 the money. Stonegate pushing 60 bucks on the weekends, or Thoroughbred or Grand Haven for $25 on GolfNow? Makes for an easy decision.

Still, Stonegate is an amazing place to play golf.

Similar to Grand Haven Golf Club for 1/3rd the price

I've played both many, many times, and Chase offers a very narrow fairway right out of the gate on the par-4 1st...... perhaps more difficult than Grand Haven because of the bottleneck 60 yards out. It really doesn't get any easier from there. Very much target golf. Miss the fairway and you could be in jail.

Usually takes the course some time to get up to speed in the summer, but once it gets there, it is a stunning and difficult course to play. I compare it to Grand Haven GC only because it is very challenging, and mid-summer is usually in as good of shape. Grand Haven does have faster greens, but Chase makes it equally difficult to get to them.

Chase lacks maintenance early spring and in the fall. The course is often littered with leaves, tree branches, twigs, etc during these times. That is my only complaint..... seems they could and should do a better job of seasonal clean-up.

Great place to play, always affordable, and provides any level of golfer a challenge.
