Newbury & Crookham Golf Club
Played On 11/26/2023Superb Greens
Got a hot deal at a bargain rate of £22. For this time of year and with the amount of rain there has been, course was in excellent condition and the greens were top notch.
Course celebrating its 150th year, one of the oldest around. General rule of thumb the older the course the higher the standard, Very true in respect of Newbury & Crookham.
Heythrop Park Resort
Played On 11/07/2021Superb greens
For November the course was in great condition. Greens were amazingly quick and the tee boxes in excellent condition.
Kingswood Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/01/2021Great value
Played course after 3.15 for £35, great value. In excellent condition and well layer out.
Finchley Golf Club
Played On 08/02/2020Great value despite course being bone dry.
Enjoyed my round despite the course being bone dry and in desperate need of water. Fairways starting to crack in places and lots of GUR areas. Greens have started to burn in certain places but still puttable and extremely quick with one or two fiendish breaks. Bunkers in pretty good state in these Covid times. Well worth a visit on the hot deal rate of £17.
Sonning Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2020Extremely impressed.
Although I have played Sonning many times I was extremely impressed with the condition of the course, compared to the other courses I have played since golf restarted. What you notice about Sonning is how lush the fairways are, courtesy of the fairway watering, which they have obviously been using. It’s consequently a different game at Sonning, you have to hit your length here as you don’t get as much run on the fairways. You do though get much better lies than you will get anywhere else. Greens in top order as well. I didn’t visit any bunkers, although they seemed to be in good condition, although my playing partner said they were a little light on sand. For what you get on and off the course £25 midweek is very good value. Our round was enhanced by the four ball in front kindly letting us through on the par 3 second hole, thereby completing our two ball round in three hours.
Croham Hurst Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2020Great twilight rate
Fairways above average, greens in good condition. Tees were in average condition, bunkers were appalling- most bunkers are currently bad - but these were dreadful. Very nice course with a lot of we’ll defined holes. Great value for £15 on twilight rate.
Whiteleaf Golf Club
Played On 12/22/2019Excellent winter track
When a number of courses are closed or have standing water on the fairways , Whiteleaf comes into its own. Other than playing off mats, albeit good quality, unless you are a women (normal tees), unbelievable condition.
Banstead Downs Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2019Excellent conditions for this time of year.
Really enjoyed my first visit to Banstead Downs. Classic example of booking a private club on a Sunday afternoon- very quite hence 3hrs 45mins for a fourball on a course none of us had played before.
1890 James Braid course, say no more - tree lined . As per course description, chalk based , hence fairways in good condition despite the amount of rain, lovely turf to hit off. Still a few bare patches. Greens were quick and fairly true as well.
You play first 6 holes then cross a road to play six and then back across for the final six. The road being a dual carriageway, probably the busiest road I’ve ever had to cross whilst playing a round.
Only gripe being no yardage booklets. Handy if you are playing course for first time as no signs by tees giving hole layout.
Leatherhead Golf Club
Played On 02/24/2019Only course I have played this winter with winter tees. Most of tees on par fours and fives were mainly well forward. Fairways not bat n great condition and winter greens, bobbly.
Back nine better with a number of interesting holes, especially the twelfth. Would like to play course in high season off proper tees.
Excellent winter venue
Booked a round teeing off at 12.14 for only £18.50, including booking fee. Course in great nick, greens fast ! Only a couple of bunkers holding water. Bunkers overall in fine condition, must have been had two sandy pars. Round in 3 hrs 45 mins, finishing at 4. Fine bearing in mind private course paying only £18.50. Hardly any mud on ball or shoes. Thoroughly enjoyed it and welcoming bar, well done Caversham Heath.
