Miramar Memorial Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2018A good afternoon course
I am biased because I work right beside the course and make it down to the range there a few times a week. The course itself is not the most challenging. There are a few holes that will make you fight for it, but most are very GIR capable.
Currently some busted pipes make for some marsh lands right by the fairways.
My title of afternoon course is because pace of play is truly a tale of morning vs afternoon. It can get pretty backed up in the mornings with various clubs playing, but afternoons can be wide open. When I played a week before at 3:30, they actually got us off at 3:00 and we only ever encountered one single through the whole round. When I played on 3 Jul, we were 20 mins behind tee time at 8 in the morning. It was still fun, but I will stick with afternoon rounds on most days.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Played On 06/23/2018Played half a dozen times
I have played Mt. Woodson about half a dozen times now. I just recently started getting back into golf and they are the closest course to my house.
The course is beautiful and if you are not hitting straight can be quite challenging. There are several par 4's where it may make sense to leave the driver in the bag and face a 100-125 yard approach instead of a down hill lie for 40 yards.
The only thing I would suggest would be a little bit better signage for the folks playing the first or second time on the course. There are a few spots, like moving from 1-2 where you are not exactly sure if you are going the right way. I mostly play twilight and the price of 30 is well worth it. Speed of play, like with every course, depends on the day. I have completed entire rounds in 3 hours, but also a little over 5 on busier days. I shoot low 90's for perspective. Playing again in a couple of hours, so it defintiely keeps me wanting to come back.
